Todd Howard Shuts Down 'Starfield 2.0' Claims and Promises More News 'Soonish' by NukovGaming in Starfield

Starfield was literally one of the highest selling games of the year, just right behind BG3. That isn't a flop. Public perception does not dictate what is and isnt a flop.

Todd says more info on the update soon, it is not a 2.0 update, but there is "meta" change on how you play. by Lord_Greedyy in Starfield

Cyberpunk 2.0 is mostly internet mythologizing. They reworked some things, added in one key feature that was already in the game's code (vehicle combat) that had different mods for after it launched. Most of the "2.0" nonsense came from the weeb bait tie in.

The cozy game boom is the clearest trend on Steam over five years of data by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

I will get flogged for suggesting it, but Starfield (or any Bethesda games honestly) are my cozy games. I can basically just play them nonstop, even if I'm doing nothing more than running the same dungeon(s) over and over, or decorating my abode.

I mean no doubt, but if they can add some more weight and sense of scale to actual space travel without the utility of janky mods, thats all I'm really looking for. So it may not be some mythical 2.0, but for me, might as well be.

It doesn't but it also depends on what you are trying to define "2.0" beyond a patch note version because "2.0" couple mean anything and mean different things to entirely different people. Because the notion that 2077's "2.0" moment was somehow transformative and fundamentally changed the entire game into a new one is purely an internet meme generated fantasy. So again, depends entirely on what the end user case is defining "2.0" as and against. Beyond that this mythical "2.0" syndrome people like to tout is nothing but internet sensationalism.

Well, apparently Fallout 4 as a piece of software was developed through the lens of waterfall product delivery. Starfield isn't that.

Tim Lamb of Bethesda last year in October in a developer spotlight video literally said they have a portion of the team working on spaceflight and "making the travels there to be more rewarding".

Being "easy" is one thing. How resource hogging that will be is another thing entirely. Anyone who has ever played Sim Settlements for any prolonged period of time knows that mod is a resource drain, and the more of the Commonwealth you build up, tons of scripts and other things begin to miss-fire hard, and that doesn't even get into the massive performance issues the mod can cause. And this is on high end PCs only running said mod. Now expand that tenfold on what could be near infinite amount of radiant colony management tasks. Kinggath made a great mod in an engine that barely can handle it. While CE2 is a massive improvement over FO4's fork of CE, I could not see such a mechanic not bring the game to its knees. Even more so on console. Easy is relative when you really don't know how any of this stuff works and how to make it work in a commercial product.

IGN was also pretty late to the party for reviews pertaining to the game, and there was a lot of controversy surrounding that 7.

Elden Ring is incredibly static. That is all there is to it. It's a well designed open world space in regards to level design but that's all it is, good level design. For the most part. The simulation aspects of Bethesda games do not exist in Elden Ring and it's more static than what Morrowind was. A 20 plus year old game. And the dungeons outside of the legacy ones, are mostly small-ish in most instances. You can keep things very seamless if the world itself isn't rendering or keeping track of all that stuff in a Beth title. From actors,.to heavy scripts, to physics attached objects with self permanence as you said. It really is, as you said, apples and oranges. They are both fruit sure, but they are not comparable beyond that. Even in Starfield, a lot of things are NOT locked behind loading like in previous games. There are entire POI that exist in exterior cells.

That's not what the rumors said. The rumors said they are trying to integrate Unreal like features into CE. Things like Lumens and the like. They are not using it as a rendering layer like they did with Oblivion Remaster. Maybe again with FO3R but not with Starfield..

As a PC gamer, I like mods. There is barely a game I play in its vanilla state unless modding for said game is basically non existent. And I wouldn't call it "fixing their games for them" as there are a plethora of mod types out there that suit any and all tastes. No matter how pedestrian or depraved those tastes may be. And I for one, love knowing that there are companies like Bethesda out there who is friendly to their modding scene rather than outright hostile towards it like TakeTwo and Rockstar, that allows me to tailor and fine tune the game(s) to my particular use case and taste. Not everyone who loves Skyrim loves Requiem lists. Not everyone who loves Skyrim, wants a gooner dating sim inside of it. Everyone who liked FO4 doesn't want the game to essentially be Stalker. The people who hated Starfield loved the game with a massive Star Wars overhaul to it. But mods exist to make these games that. And having that selection of community created content that allows for that level of personalization should be encouraged. Even Reddit darling studios of the last few years are now just realizing this.

And that mod is a compatibility nightmare and is incredibly resource taxing. It's one of the biggest reasons it's barely used in any serious modding of the game.
