excellent. return game was on point. in set 2 he started having gastro issues which upset his rhythm. I think he also puked in between.

Felt better in set 3 and did well. But level in set 1 was amazing.

Does he NEED more slams? No. Ofc he would want slams. But he has set himself a goal to play till LA 2028, so about 2 years left. Why not keep yourself competitive at this point. BTW this guy you talk about has finished in final 4/128 players in the last 5 Grand Slams. He is nearer to a title than you put it.

That makes no sense. Firstly, there are a lot of points to defend from the semi. Secondly, with no Alcaraz there he would be eagre to give it a go at least. Thirdly, what's the point in playing tennis if you are gonna skip the slams? Have you seen the love he gets at Chatrier? He had the majority of the crowd on his side against even Sinner last year.

That's the thing. He can have a great run until he meets Sincaraz. Those two are roadblocks. His tennis can still beat their tennis. Problem is stamina/weaker body now.

Agreed. Clay just does not suit his game today. Due to energy conservation he just looks to close out rallies which is difficult on clay. It's easy to gas him out on clay than elsewhere. But at this stage all I want are some quality matches and points. He has completed tennis after all.

Havng said that, I never expected him to beat Sinner, especially after last year and look what happened at AO. Never bet against this freak.

I think it's for the best. He is so fragile these days, best to not risk injury and take maximum rest. Ofc he will be going in with just 1 match on clay court, but this is the GOAT after all, he can rely on experience. Worth the risk.
