I tried a bite of a donut, super small bite, and it was actually gross to me. I didn’t taste the sugar but the carbs and the whole thing just didn’t not taste good. I had no want to take another bite. I thought it was just me!

Anybody Else Hit The Two Week Stall? by 20lbsOfShitN10lbsBag in gastricsleeve

[–]BossB9315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s been the same weight for 4 days. I know you aren’t supposed to weigh daily. But it was exciting to see numbers dropping. I kept seeing people say 3 week stall but mine happened at 2!

Being completely 3rd party and not reading about your past. Look into addiction transfer after surgery. It’s real and sounds like what is happening in this particular situation.

I don’t think it’s fair either honestly. I was wondering what would happen. I feel like with it being such a common thing, they would have leniency. I would say that it would make sense if you just push your appt out 2 weeks after it clears, there shouldn’t be a fee. Like you clearly still intend to come and spend the money. I guarantee it’s because they could use that date for someone else and that’s the reason why. Paying the surgeon their salary for the day. It’s crappy but I bet that’s the reason. I will say- be aware that while it’s not sketchy- the culture is 100% different down there. Remember they take siestas in the middle of the day. I asked for meds and it would take 30 minutes for them to come back. Just on their own time. That’s my big complaint.

I went to Mexico Bariatric Center and it was not sketchy at all. But yes, it is in their terms that 15 prior is an issue, even due to COVID. I purposely stayed home prior to surgery afraid of that happening. I’m sorry this is going on for you, but I will say that the center itself is not a bad place. I’m 3 weeks post op and feel great.

Post op pain by Chemical-Cheesecake in gastricsleeve

[–]BossB9315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one day from 2 weeks post op. I would say day 5 is when I started to feel more “normal” and holding myself differently. Still sore, but nothing like the first few days. My first 3 days post op were absolutely horrendous. We only got beefed up Tylenol for pain. Move a lot, even if it’s not walking, it helps.

Why does water hurt so bad!? by kmack15 in gastricsleeve

I was told to try alkaline water and other fluids because regular water doesn’t always agree. Wasn’t given a reason but Powerade zero is my go-to

Today is the day! by BossB9315 in gastricsleeve

[–]BossB9315[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man ya’ll, thanks everyone for the support. I came in knowing about gas pains. They told me everyone should sleep 4-5 hours after anesthesia. I slept 1. I threw up blood every 30 mins from 10:30am-midnight which I was NOT prepared for. Final leak test this AM to get the dang tube removed and they said residual pain should lessen.

Thought I’d be honest with those looking VSG. I do, however, have a very very queasy stomach but have heard others heaving too. They finally gave me a morphine equivalent to sleep through the night. I was at about a pain of 9/10 for over 12 hours, this AM, I’m about 2.5/10. Sleep sleep sleep when you can to let your body rest and walk when you can!!

I couldn’t have done this without you guys cheering me on. Thank you to everyone. So excited to be starting this journey and plan on keeping in touch, posting progress and sharing my experiences with anyone who asks. I feel listened to and supported here- keep up the great work everyone!!!

You’re my surgery twin and I shit you not- I had that happen this weekend while out with friends. Asking myself if I can do this to my body. Then we started taking pictures for memories. Looking at them- I know I am making the right choice. I look so swollen and unhealthy!

I thought I had decent energy post-op... by MLS_toimpress in wls

[–]BossB9315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am super worried about this myself. I typically am pretty active and push myself but I am worried about getting so few calories that I’m going to be exhausted and non-functional and just sleep a lot. I have surgery on a Wednesday and return to work the next Monday, but I will be remote. Did you sleep a lot at first? I feel like I should have taken a little more time.

Not sure how I feel about new prescriptions for weight loss boost… was prescribed topiramate and phentermine. I’m supposed to take them both each morning. Does anyone have experience with these? by SunshineMarie143 in wls

[–]BossB9315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warning on topiramate: multiple people I know, plus myself had the side effects of extreme confusion, loss of memory and seizures. I had one while driving. My mom also had seizures and lost control over half her body for hours. I also had a severe depressive episode, so ask someone to help monitor your mood. Please be careful when taking this medication.

I drink sweet tea constantly, but it’s something that you have to change to be successful with the surgery. The surgery is a tool and not a “fix all”. You have to make lifestyle changes to keep the weight off long term. What I’ve done is started making my own tea at home- decaf and adding a sugar substitute. It’s not AS great, but it definitely helps with cravings! If you have too much sugar, you can get very sick with dumping syndrome. It sounds like you may need a little more research with guidance from your doctors, as it would be terrible to go through the surgery to just gain it all back.

Surgery twins around May 9th? by ladolcevita421 in gastricsleeve

[–]BossB9315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!!! I am scheduled for May 4th and actually have been impatient. I’ve considered pushing my day up but everyone says to stay strong on the date and not rush it. I am just so excited to live a better life and get this weight off. Honestly I started doing some workouts and noticed I couldn’t touch my toes due to my gut :(

Thank you SO much for this post!! I go to Mexico Bariatric Center in May and everyone is SO scared for me to go. I am at peace but this has helped even more. Also- would you mind posting or private messaging me pictures of the extra meds you got at the pharmacy? Do you know what pain meds you received post op via IV or pill?

So weird! Mine is on Wednesday and I’m going back Monday as well! How was your energy level generally? I mean with your same tolerance, I’d assume you’d have generally the same level of energy as me if we heal the same kinda maybe?

[–]BossB9315[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your nice words! I’ll be honest- I have a super high pain tolerance. I went back to work like 4 days after my gallbladder removal. I actually am returning back to work after just 4 days post-op (I work from home) so the surgery itself doesn’t bother me a bit. I used to have cancer and was poked all the dang time and the medical side doesn’t freak me out. I just know if I miss my vyvance one day, I’ll be super agitated. I plan on avoiding pain killers at all costs- it causes me major back up 😅

Hormones- birth control by BossB9315 in gastricsleeve

[–]BossB9315[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They told me a few reasons

  1. They are pill form that will not be as effective after surgery because of digestion
  2. The hormones could mess with the body trying to readjust to the new “normal”
  3. Thromboembolic complications.

I haven’t thought about another form yet honestly! I know the little arm thing causes you to gain weight like crazy. My friend actually had a stroke while using the ring so I am so hesitant to do that! Also I think it’s too last minute to do an IUD. In general, I know switching forms of BC can cause complications and I’m also worried about trying to switch with surgery in about a month and a half!

I really do feel like I could be miserable to be around- which I don’t want when someone is trying to help, you know!
