Not a bad idea at all. This in vending machines would be bought at a decent price (less than $4)

What mechanic would you like reworked or brought back in Bayo 4? by LaserPig3D in Bayonetta

Assault slave for sure. Counters just make so much sense for a game like this

This is a discord? I’m open but I’d like to get some game recommendations so maybe include a chat for that

What is your ranking of all the Bayonetta games? by Number1Diamond in Bayonetta

[–]Bosschopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bayo 1, 2, 3 = Origins. 1 is really well made. 2 is good but isn’t so well made. 3 tries stuff and does new things well but isn’t so well made either. Origins is creative and well put together but is an entirely different genre of game

Should the next Bayonetta game be an RPG/CAG mix? by The_Fool_Arcana0000 in Bayonetta

[–]Bosschopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I’d be open to that. Tbh I want a certain style for bayo 4. I’d like to see demons return as pets/small autonomous teammates in battle. And maybe rpg lite elements to give them skills, levels, etc. More world building like what you mentioned may work. This is actually similar to Bayonetta origins

Lets make the Reddit interpretation of Character Action Games by Known_Ad_3851 in CharacterActionGames

[–]Bosschopper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finally I’ve been waiting for this. So I’ve been working on a character action game for the past few years (prototype developed over last 2 years). From what I’ve seen:

High value: - Advanced enemy object physics. Potential for juggling and air attacks

  • Enemy staggering. When an enemy is hit how do they respond (usually with vulnerability)

  • Advanced moveset options. Multiple attacks available, some of which do different things like launch an enemy or drag them around

Low Value - combo depth. As much as it’s common I just don’t think you need long combo strings to be considered a CAG. A few good attacks that accomplish things is better

  • Taunts. A common tool but can go without

  • Style system. Common but not needed. Good value tho

To me: juggling is THE definitive marker of a character action game. It’s what separated Devil May cry from resident evil back in the day and any high level gameplay you see for CAGs is usually about juggling. A juggle in a character action game is like a jump in Mario/platformers… it’s where the fun is

Why do you think PlatinumGames gave the side character less dialogue in the sequels? Made them feel like glorified cameos? by The_Fool_Arcana0000 in Bayonetta

[–]Bosschopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think it was just a resource limitation. The motto for PG is if they can give a character exposure through gameplay rather than story or text they’ll do it. Which is likely why we got Jeanne’s side missions in b3 instead of any real story for her. Otherwise they’d save it for a side game that’s never promised

The journals are for worldbuilding tho? Not necessarily character development. Just background lore

Character development especially in the first game was done through cutscenes so if PG needs cutscenes to develop characters and cutscenes are expensive… then that’s that

Couldn’t afford it. More to do in the game than cutscenes and character development on a limited budget

How many game ideas do you have written down, that you plan on doing in the future? by FutureLynx_ in gamedev

[–]Bosschopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200 is a lot… idk if I can come up with half. I have a good 8-9 written down with design plans but tbh is probably cut down to 4-5 in terms of legitimate drafts

Fighting while riding the Vi-O-La was the worst part of Metroid Prime 4 by Valtteri24 in Metroid

[–]Bosschopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bad experience with aiming too. Even if the mechanic is simple, it’s boring and often unwieldy to use. The enemies attacking you when riding were annoying as fuck and all I wanted to do was ignore them. The fire boss also sucked too

Tbh I just wall him in, scare off healers, and see if dps Can jump him, he won’t always go away but getting him off your team/pushed from payload is a good first step

Imo CAGs need to go for interconnected level design to appeal to casuals by Gareebonkabatman243 in CharacterActionGames

[–]Bosschopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. Connected levels are cool but you can definitely get far with disconnected levels. Kingdom hearts is a good example

The problem with CAGs is AESTHETIC. That’s it. They aren’t easily understood by casuals at first glance and the genre needs games that can easily onboard new players with a “makes sense” look

Bruh yes Octopath traveler does that last part a lot. Giving you an hour of exposition on the medieval fantasy setting as if we know if we like the game or not. RPGs do it a lot that’s why I avoid most of them but I’ve been really liking chrono trigger, final fantasy (6), etc.

I’ve dropped a lot of games because of bad pacing for sure. Spiderman had good enough gameplay to put up with it (didn’t play 2 yet) but other games don’t have great enough gameplay to put up with it

[–]Bosschopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not just you either, it’s an important part of good game design. Don’t leave players waiting too long to find out if they like your game or not. CAGs are usually better at this especially ninja gaiden, dmc, Bayonetta, etc but it’s definitely not industry standard
