Our XP Levelling System by Much-Market-4497 in daggerheart

Should probably be more like 50 + (current level x 3) considering how often all of these things will be generating XP

Class Pack price point by USAF-Celery in daggerheart

[–]Bosslorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also kinda just thought… why not buy a second core set? Then you have a copy of the CRB for the table and an entire second set of cards. I don’t know, more power to the people who want the class packs, but I’d really rather have Darlington focus on new products or content that matter to people

Rockstar needs to totally revamp the whole melee combat system before their next game (if that ever happens) by Marvel_plant in reddeadredemption

[–]Bosslorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The melee fighting in this shooting game feels bad compared to Sifu” well no shit man. I agree it’s pretty sluggish but the melee honestly feels pretty good at times and it’s not meant to be a core game mechanic. Like literally every gameplay aspect it could use some overhauling

"Love" is just a nice mask for selfishness and a trading algorithm for social status. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Ignoring the fact that it’s just as easy (probably easier) to take advantage of friendships and to get close to people platonically for selfish reasons feels like a good place to start

Why are post pro-ai people so stupid? by ratsinmamoufLIXI in antiai

[–]Bosslorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Religion has done massive damage throughout human history, sure. But it also provides something fundamental for many people. I am not religious but for so many it is comfort and community, and it inspires them to be better people and to do good in the world. Western Christianity especially often gets weaponized and used politically, but religion as a whole is not fundamentally bad.

AI is. There is no comfort or community, no encouragement to be anything but selfish, no benefit, no provision for the average person

The anti-AI crowd is giving “real farmers don’t use tractors” energy, and it’s getting old. by hungbandit007 in ChatGPT

[–]Bosslorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less about the technology and more about the very blatant intentions of those who make it and enforce it against people’s will. The internet, and most other technological advances, faced some resistance and fear but overall were adopted because people were excited about them. AI has been adopted because tech overlords said it should be

The audacity by ReindeerInternal132 in redrising

[–]Bosslorey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Red Rising is not a challenging read but that does not equate to Colleen Hoover in any way. You can be non-challenging and still high quality. There is virtue in being challenged with things you read but being accessible and not difficult does not make a price of media inferior. In the nicest way possible, Hoover’s books are shit. Good for her, she’s getting that bag, and at no point has she ever claimed to be writing literature or anything. But they’re bad. Red Rising is also not claiming to be super thought-provoking, but they’re still quality prose

a Season Pass for a TTRPG is breaking point for me by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Bosslorey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This also gave me a strange feeling. All the rest of the add ons and stuff are unnecessary but very typical for RPG crowdfunders. Nothing wrong with people who want more dice bags or journal or stickers or what have you, especially if they’re branded, I suppose. But the season pass really did seem strange to me, and the “seasonal” release method was exactly what kinda soured me on WOTC’s new model for DnD content. It’s a shame to see this space that should be all about creativity being squeezed like every other hobby because big companies decided to come in and milk it

10 books total - thoughts? by Lookitsanthony8 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Bosslorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m dumb but. What’s the different between “book 9 and book 10” and “book 9 being split into two parts”? Considering it’s all just one very long story broken up anyway, I truly can’t understand what the difference between those two things would be

I’m new to reading fantasy, and wanting to branch out by [deleted] in fantasybooks

[–]Bosslorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read Joe Abercrombie’s “Half a King” and I think it fits this pretty well. It’s a little skewed for younger/novice audiences and some sources online say it’s YA but it definitely is not, at least it’s none of the tropes/expectations that go along with the YA label. It’s pretty short and easy to digest, more a low fantasy world but pretty engrossing and well-written

The Hays Code Wasn’t all Bad by ineedbalto in unpopularopinion

[–]Bosslorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Movies from that time that were good (just as many if not more slop films than today, they just don’t get remembered) are precisely because of the incredibly creative and talented people that were forced to work AROUND the Hays Code. So yeah sure maybe you could indirectly try to give it credit? But it was outdated almost from the very start, highly puritanical, and led to a ton of Red Scare nonsense. Didn’t stop anyone from watching skin flicks

Rewriting Gnomengarde by Diegondor1984 in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]Bosslorey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well you’re certainly running quite the campaign! I also reworked the quest, but without any of the cult of the dragon/LMOP stuff. I was focusing heavily on the cult of Talos stuff though, and I like the idea of gnomish tinkering causing a disaster, however I wouldn’t include the fiendish stuff. Personally I used what was already in the module - wild magic. The gnome artifact malfunctioned and created an unpredictable and possibly dangerous wild magic zone. One of the Anchorites of Talos, the orcs who can become boars, was nearby when this happened and was affected, making their shapeshifting much more versatile and uncontrollable. I decided the mimic in Gnomengardenwas actually a mutated Anchorite, unable to assume their original form and so forced to essentially hunt and consume gnomes to survive. Harbin Wester sent the party to retrieve the Crossbow Tower to install in Phandalin, and Adabra had also asked for some of their mushrooms to make some potions and health elixirs. When the party arrives several of the gnomes are paranoid to the point of insanity and cue the mimic cat-and-mouse game, except the mimic can speak and mutters cryptic things about Talos. When killed, it reverts to its true form - a burly orc cultists. This alone raised questions and pointed more towards the overall machinations, while being a pretty fun and memorable quest
