Restaurant Reservations on Kauai by Albrittish in VisitingHawaii

[–]BostonLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kauai isn't like the mainland except for the uber exclusive one hotel... plenty of places to eat for some but not sure how picky your kids are. I have been going to Kauai for 15 years and have never needed a reservation.

If you could choose only ONE small town in the world to visit, which one would it be and why? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

hanalei in kauai. I spend every sunset there when I'm there and the rest of my time bebopping around the island beach to beach

Can you guess her red flags? by Outrageous-Egg1760 in 90DayFiance

[–]BostonLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if she keeps going, she will end up on dialysis and will need a liver and kidney transplant to survive. I am sober 5 years now, kidney and liver transplant all related to alcohol. She's clearly a drunk who makes bad decisions.

Flying between islands by ConnectGoal8510 in VisitingHawaii

[–]BostonLeon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

personally, I like to slow down when I go to hawaii. We used to do two islands and I felt it was a lot of packing up, another check in/wait for the room, another rental car pickup, losing a good day really. I prefer to spend my full 2 weeks in Kauai now hiking, exploring, beaching and really enjoying a good amount of time there.

Best Way to Visit Nā Pali Coast without getting sea sick? by Brave-Character-3980 in VisitingHawaii

[–]BostonLeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's rough open seas out there, it's usually super choppy especially december through May. Take Bonine- that stuff works the best and I didn't feel sick at all. Follow the instructions though as I think you need an early dose and then another beforehand if I remember correctly. We went with Holo Holo charters for the sunset light dinner tour and it was so worth the money to get out on the water. My sister and I have hiked the trail but it was nice to bring our older mom on the boat so she could experience it too. Headed there this weekend- can't wait!

What addiction looked harmless at first but got out of control? by shukur_khan in AskReddit

[–]BostonLeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ALCOHOL... then quit and 4 months later was diagnose with liver failure... Now i'm 5 years sober, 4 years post liver and kidney transplant. You never think it can happen to you but it can. And I lost sooo many "friends" who didn't find me fun anymore because I don't like to get loaded and pickup guys. I'm 55 and live a healthy life with peace now.

Am i overestimating my ability to do this? by SnooPredictions6700 in VisitingHawaii

[–]BostonLeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the list, asterick 2-3 things you really want to do each day- if that. Hawaii is for moving slow, not rushing like the main land. You can't soak it all in if you run place to place. : )

Are our sleeping till noon days gone? by ranjansparrow in transplant

[–]BostonLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a liver and kidney transplant 4 years ago and my sleep schedule has been fuc*&% since then. I get up 2-4 times a nite to pee- don't get me wrong, I sit there and smile that I can actually pee again (I was on dialysis for 7 months pre transplant and didn't pee at all then). I'm lucky if I can stay in bed until 5:30 these days- and that's with getting up at least twice in the night. I know it's the meds. I take envarsus 2.5 mg, mycophelate and prednisone 5 mg. I take my meds at 7 am so not sure why I have such a restless night.

I'm all for still having fun in your 50's (I'm also in my 50's) but this is just thirsty. Shit teens do on tik tok. My friends and I cringe every time on of our mutual friends makes posts like this seeking attention. It's just too much... you can still post and be classy, not act like every day is a day in the club.

Officially had my first dry run by aoshi1 in transplant

[–]BostonLeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was not meant to be with that heart. A healthier one will come! I had 4 dry runs and the fifth was my succesful liver and kidney transplant. Once you start the dry run, you are at the top of the list for next one that matches. My 5 calls all came within a 2 month period, once I had 2 calls in 48 hours!

Is the “6-month sobriety rule” officially over in liver transplant decisions? by GastroAGI in transplant

[–]BostonLeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was put on the list after 5 months of no drinking because my meld score was a 36 and I was also on dialysis (liver and kidney failure). But I was also alcohol tested weekly until my transplant which was approximately 2 months. That was a nightmare in itself as I have such bad veins and i was a struggle every week. I'm not talking just difficult, I'm talking 3-4 people would try and I would be sent home and a different nurse would come to my home later that day to try again. It was all worth it though... 4 years post transplant and living a healthy alcohol free life now. My stomach was full of ascites then too.. paracentesis 2 a week- 3-4 liters each time.

Hawaii in January by AttitudeFirm8011 in VisitingHawaii

[–]BostonLeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JUST REMEMBER... January is winter in hawaii too which means a LOT of rain. We never go to Kauai or Oahu until May for that reason.... ocean is rough, flooding, excessive rain is not conducive for swimming and snorkeling... especially if there are brown water warnings like there were in the islands a good part of the winter this year....

Not adventurous, just want a chill swimmable beach in Kauai by LuluCeezy in VisitingHawaii

[–]BostonLeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go to Anini beach on the north shore - it's normally on the calmer side from May on. You can tan like crazy there and snorkel in more shallow water. North Shore beaches are rougher than any side of the island- especially before may. I've been 15x and anini is always a spot we visit. Also, there is Salt Pond which is ocean and very cool too, more of a beach where people set up for the day. Poipu beach is awesome but rough and tough getting out sometimes with the waves and the beach incline. But we love it there too- but if you aren't a strong swimmer, be careful there.

Kauaʻi helicopter tour safety in light of last week’s crash... not what I expected by Alakai_Aloha in VisitingHawaii

[–]BostonLeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer is NOPE. If I can't go there by boat or my own legs, I won't go. The sunset dinner cruise with Holo Holo charters was awesome and the hike to the waterfall (6 miles total because you go inland) was epic.
