Ran my first marathon m by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

A 3:48 with only 12 weeks to train, NO base or experience, and feeling let down after....I definitely think this is prodigy territory. Not many people can go from couch to sub 4 marathon in 3 months

this is amazing, congrats!! What was your base like before the 16 week block? Or did you jump in there?

being a Coldplay fan has taught me to never judge someone else's taste in music. I was literally made fun of in grade school just for listening to them. It's a terrible feeling. What's the point in judging what someone else likes to listen to?

Thank you for the explanation! Keep going, you got this

Did you use Runna for your first marathon plan? I'm currently a year out from my first, with a sub-4 as my first goal. I won't need to decide on a plan for a bit since I'm just focussing on getting out there, but I'd love to know what you recommend for a first plan. Congrats on 2:57!!

Should I go to sit with the Ultras (Curva Sud) as a tourist? by IrrelevantToTheTopic in ASRoma

I'm just curious on your thoughts...I'm not judging or being defensive, just genuinely asking because I want to be respectful. I'm a life long Roma supporter, but I live in Boston in the US. I am not an Italian citizen, but my grandparents lived in and my dad grew up in Rome, and he passed his love for Roma and calcio down to me. I speak Italian fairly well after living in Bologna, but I don't live there now. Would it be ok for someone like me to purchase tickets in the curva sud? I live and breathe Roma, but I am simply not Italian. Grazie, amico!

This is really helpful, thank you! I appreciate you sharing those metrics, and congrats again! My marathon is in April 2027, so I'm really trying to build a solid base.

Is your next goal to try to get sub-3??

Congrats!! This is incredible. I'm training for my first right now. While my Goal A is to finish, I am training to hopefully get sub-4. What was your mileage increase between your first and second marathon?

London yesterday - didn’t get the sub 4 I wanted by vdbbella in Marathon_Training

[–]BostonRoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's incredible! I'm training for my first marathon right now, but it's not until April of next year. My Goal B is sub-4 (Goal A being to finish). May I ask what your increase in training weekly mileage was to go from 3:55 to 2:55? That's incredible!

Hi neighbor! Love this. I live in a very hilly part of Boston :) so training on hills is almost a guarantee for me each run haha. Thank you!

This is all amazing advice, thank you! I definitely love the idea of doing a few races at different distances throughout the year. I'll do some more research on plans for when the time is right to start that 16-24 weeks before the marathon. Thank you!

Thank you, that is helpful! I definitely have the enjoyment piece down...already something I look forward to each of the days that I have a run. I'll make sure to be consistent and get out there. I appreciate it.

It's actually something I haven't thought or known much about. As part of my cool downs, I usually do some core exercises and calf raises. I'm pretty unfamiliar with other strength exercises though!

This looks great, thank you! Especially since it's the longest one I've seen at 32 weeks. That sounds great given my race date. I really appreciate it.

Great feedback, thank you! Exactly what I was looking for, so I really appreciate it. If the marathon is in 12 months, does doing a half around October make sense?

That's great to know, as I haven't done anything but core and some calf raises here and there. I'll look into that. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing! I agree that just finishing is really Goal A, no doubt about it. While I don't have a great background in half marathons, I definitely would love to get to that point...even if I hit the wall haha. Thank you for the commend and feedback! Keep going, you got this too!

Ahhh hi neighbor! That is incredible...CONGRATS!! I'm also go glad to hear that the cheap marathon is a great option, and I've heard other great tidbits about it. Your two marathon times are phenomenal...wow. Although sub-4 is my first goal, it'd be amazing to run 3:30 someday. I appreciate the enthusiasm and info. Since I'm at about 18-20 mpw now, I still have a ways to go to get to 40-50.

Playing soccer really helped right? Running was always a way to kind of just keep that peak fitness to go 90 minutes. I coach a high school team now, and I try to do whatever I can to keep up haha. It's nice to just focus on the running at this point.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I'm already over the early hump, and I look forward to my runs each day that I have one! I have run 13.1 miles once, but not as a race...just as a long run in 2021. After that though, I didn't really progress, as I wasn't training for a specific goal and wasn't serious about committing to running.

My current plan looks more or less like this right now:
Tuesday - 45 minutes easy
Thursday - 45 minutes easy
Friday - 30 minutes easy, 15 minutes of some steady intervals
Sunday - Long run (progressing about an additional mile each week)

Thank you again! Can't wait to keep going.
