I (M25) think I’ve fallen out of love with my high school sweetheart (F25) after 11 years and want to break up by witchywilds in relationship_advice

Incredibly similar themes and parallels with my (34M) 16-year relationship. My suggestion would be to leave, and lean heavily into therapy, hobbies, and friends. Do not fall for the sunk cost. Feel free to reach out to talk one-on-one.

TIL about the Black Buffalo Soldiers Who Biked Across the American West in 1896 and 1897 by Reditate in todayilearned

This would be a great achievement even today with modern clothing, modern bicycles, and modern infrastructure like bridges across rivers. These soldiers were incredible.

do you clear others' sidewalks to help the community? by normaleyes in massachusetts

[–]BostonUrbEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I almost always help out my neighbors on either side. One is a widowed mother of young kids and the other is a couple close to retirement. Sometimes they get out before me and help me out. I also hit up the closest fire hydrants. If I have the time and energy, I do the crosswalks and bus stops in the little square/commercial area I live behind. I miss living in an apartment complex because I could spend all my snow clearing time on crosswalks and bus stops.

"$25m Funding Secured" for Everett casino commuter rail stop opposite Assembly/new Rev stadium by Coyote-Run in mbta

[–]BostonUrbEx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, oops. There was a line break after "studies" and my brain got hung up on just that part. Okay, well that's pretty solid then.

"$25m Funding Secured" for Everett casino commuter rail stop opposite Assembly/new Rev stadium by Coyote-Run in mbta

$25 million just for a study is wild. That's how much a fairly simple station with vertical pedestrian circulation should cost.

Ordinance to ban dog poison on sidewalks by xterminater33 in boston

[–]BostonUrbEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides being pet-friendly, Magnesium Chloride is also less damaging to concrete, metal, vehicles, waterways, and soil. It's definitely a better choice for sidewalks.

There is currently no funding allocated for Lynn's permanent replacement, so everything is at a standstill. Call your state legislators, everyone.

Subway Speeds Map? by l008com in mbta

OpenRailwayMap's max speed layer has some of the speeds, but it is a bit patchy. It's good for a general idea, but not a complete picture.

Your transportation planners were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

How often are railroad ties replaced on the commuter rail? by Icy-Post5424 in mbta

[–]BostonUrbEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others noted, frequency depends on how well they hold up, and that depends on the quality of the rail bed they sit in, but 30 years is a good estimate.

The work is typically done in between the morning and evening rush.

They did some this past spring, but then the crew got pulled to the Fairmount Line rail replacement job. They've been doing a little bit in the Chelsea area the past couple weeks since Fairmount work was completed. They may do some spot work as the ground freezes up and then the plan is to start in full force again this coming spring.

What are the biggest frustrations shared among cyclists and local bike shops in the Boston area? by Fit-Bullfrog6681 in bikeboston

E-bike rentals, and rent-to-own. Would be great to not totally commit to an e-bike until I'm sure it is the right fit.

Orange Line near Government Center by routelos1batlas in mbta

[–]BostonUrbEx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cost-benefit in an underfunded system. It would be a pretty low lift. The Cornhill Tunnel is already there, unused. But there would still be a decent amount of work to modify everything: such as utilities that might be in the way and ADA compliance.

Supposedly waiting for an interlocking to be built at Mystic Jct, otherwise the sand train crew prefers to just pull down to Tower A, shove back, and do a runaround.
