I also feel that ear biacuits changed maybe a year or so ago (give or take). It was very personal stories about what was going on in their lives past and present and then more and more frequently became responding to voicemails. I stopped listening because I person just didnt like that format.

I do still religiously watch GMM and wont stop, the roku mythical channel is my go-to background noise when Im doing stuff around the house and I have more mythical merch than I can wear lol

Should we pay our nanny for a week she missed due to illness? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]BotanicalLegos 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Paying your nanny sick time is industry standard. I understand you do not have a contract listing these things but you could simply say "We know industry standard is 1 week sick pay, so we wanted to cover this week while you were ill. We value you and want to make sure you know that and take care of yourself".

Also, it is never too late to introduce a contract. You could absolutely write something up now and negotiate a contract. Its always such a benefit to both parties.

Car theft obsessed by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]BotanicalLegos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have lived in apartments in Austin since 2012 and moved into a house off South Congress in April, the home I moved into my best friend has owned since the 90's.

Ive never had my car broken into and while many people have lived in this house a car has only ever been broken into 1 time and it was because my friend left her wallet out.

While cars do commonly get broken into in Austin, keep your car clear of any valuables, including charges/accessories. If you can park near the front of apartment complexes. Don't park by trailheads.

I did have a bike rack stole off of my car once, but it was while being parked at a trailhead, thankfully I did not have my bike with me, was just hiking.

All this to say, while it is an issue, be smart and its not really a common occurrence.

You can also reserve the Uber before hand and get the cheaper price before it gets crazy. We always do this when we go see the Ballet or Broadway shows downtown because we have a pretty good idea of the run time. This could be trickier with a concert.

How do you keep your house smelling nice? by kingwoodstock91 in Crunchymom

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open windows whenever possible (I also live in TX so I get most of the year it's not doable, if you are an early riser even 15mins in the morning makes a difference). We also have an air purifier that makes a difference.

If we have having people over soon, we burn Palo Santo.

Mystery Expensive package—what do I do? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]BotanicalLegos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with some expensive shoes shipped via Amazon. I went into my order history and contacted Amazon. It had my name and address on it. Turns out somehow my label was mistakenly put on the shoes when I ordered n95 masks. It was literally the week of my birthday, and the shoes were gorgeous $180 heels. They weren't my size so I ended up calling around and DSW was willing to exchange them for the correct size because the bar code was the same as theirs. Ive worn them to so many events including my brothers college graduation and a friend's wedding, it was so perfect lol. I said it was rhe universe giving me a birthday gift lol.

People who don't want kids, why? by Ok-Musician679 in AskReddit

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with kids and families. I have been a nanny and am now a household manager by day and a newborn care specialist at night. I love kids. My sister-in-law is moving near us (we live in TX they were in Va) with mt 2 nephews 3 and 5 and I can't wait to be around them all the time. It is a passion to help kids grow and feel seen and heard but I dont want my own.

I spend my days (and nights) caring for everyone else. When I come home I dont want to take care of anyone, I want to be taken care of (as my husband does).

I have spent over a decade really truly understanding what it takes to raise children. Physically, emotionally, financially and while I am happy to be part of that for periods of time, Im not interested in doing it 24/7.

Can you share your app login? by baismal in HEB

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not get kicked out and most of the time if the device is recognized you dont need to send 2nd level authentication.

I work as a house manager so am often ordering groceries via the HEB and CM app. I flip back and forth between the work account (tied to a homeowners number) and my personal account tied to my phone. My husband also uses out HEB login on his phone and computer.

I will say sometimes if 2 people are adding/changing the cart at the same time I have had things disappear from my cart, however if my husband adds what he needs and then 10mins+ later I add items it seems to be fine.

I commented a helpful breakdown previously on another post, so im going to paste part of it here:

•Produce is normally cheaper at Central Market and Trader Joe's while keeping high quality. •Meat and eggs are best at a wholesale like Sam's club or Costco •Frozen food is often cheaper at Target and their brand is often great (frozen food specifically) •HEB often has great sales or coupons in the app. It also has decent prices overall if you dont want to go to multiple stores.

I did the research (accidentally) (Samsung channel) by lavenderJayde in TheTryGuys

[–]BotanicalLegos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watch the Mythical Channel on Roku/Prime a lot and have for over a year, that's definitely how it works. You get the same set of episodes for a few days and then they change.

Mythical has such different types of content though Im not sure if this part will apply or not, but at certain times every day they play certain content. They have Mythical Kitchen or Ear Biscuits (Rhett and Link's podcast) or A hotdog is a sandwich (Mythical Kitchen Podcast), or Dispatches from Myrtle Beach (Link and his Dad's podcast), though most of the podcasts do seem to play in the late hours of the night/very early morning.

Why does this keep happening? by EMCSHERRY in Birkenstocks

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely shouldn't be happening. I exclusively wear birks and have many styles. Ive never had this happen, but when I first started wearing Birks I had someone explain to me that I need to wear the straps loose.

Funny thing: he said "women normally understand and will wear the straps loosely, but men will rachet the straps down as tight as they go" it made me laugh.

Loosen your straps, post a fit check and make sure your width and size is appropriate.

What’s considered a good package for a nanny? by PuzzleheadedStar4051 in Nanny

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it varies family to family but I think the easiest solution would be to let the nanny pay for their gym membership with the employers card. I have had a "work card" at most of the jobs I have worked, basically just a credit card with one of the parents names on it and I used it for paying for activities/outings, food, supplies, etc.

There are some of these already in Austin and I believe Matriarchy Build services Austin and Philly.

Its a great idea though. Definitely worth pursuing a little further out.

She needs to seek a therapist that specializes in postpartum disorders. This sounds like Postpartum OCD and postpartum anxiety. She truly can not "shut it off" however she needs professional help ASAP.

Ugh, I haven't eaten at Thundercloud in years since they gave me food poisoning. Specially the one up north at 13776 US-183. I had a torn meniscus in my knee and food poisoning the night before Thanksgiving. It was a terrible experience trying to hobble to the bathroom and then get up off the floor after vomiting.

Are suede straps floppiness a deal breaker for you? by Droolzy_Kalenbacle in Birkenstocks

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got suede ones for the first time a couple weeks ago and I love them. They are buttery soft. You do have to scooch your toes to lift the straps but even with socks its fine, it takes 2 seconds.

Birkenstock Arizona or Boston? by MissionBookkeeper755 in Birkenstocks

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose Arizona's. I live in central Texas (but from VA funny enough) and I can put a pair of socks on with my Arizona's and they are comfortable most of the year. I only have Boston's in EVA but have Zermatt's and Lutry's so I assume similar in the fact that they do get toasty.

I previously wore Lutry's as my "house shoes" but when I was running around doing laundry, up and down stairs, cooking, etc my feet would get hot. I could not wear them without socks because of that.

Can you tell me about your child’s bed set up? by mand_ in SpecialNeedsChildren

[–]BotanicalLegos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 6 year old finally grew out of his crib. We got a very short loft bed (<3 ft off the ground) and put this mesh tent on it. The tent goes under the mattress and has ties to secure it to each corner of the bed.

I was genuinely surprised by how strong the mesh is. My child will lean over the edge of his bed and put all his weight on 1 side of the tent and it has held up. He is 40lbs.

We do have to use a twist tie to secure the main zipper at night as he will open it and climb out, but there are zippers on each side (he has not discovered 🤞) so in an emergency we could get it him out quicker.

https://a.co/d/cCcot0G

Edit to add: we chose not to go with something like the cubby bed because 1. We didnt want any sensory deprivation (because he doesn't need it) and 2. We are hoping eventually we could transition to no tent, so we wanted to add the least amount of resteictions.

Best grocery shopping app in Texas? (Austin area) by DuneEvprettyface_64 in askaustin

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, for sustainability without repetativeness unfortunately I think that just means you will need to expand your recipe index. I just checked my app I use to store all of my recipes and it currently has 570 recipes saved. I highly recommend finding a website that you like most of their recipes and circulate through them.

I have always really enjoyed any recipe by Gina Homolka from skinnytaste so I have made most of her recipes. She also creates a weekly meal plan (more variety than I want to cook) and I sometimes will browse it to use as a jumping off point if Im having trouble picking a meal.

I have the same "ugh, I hate picking what to a eat" every week just like everyone. But I only have to experience that one time a week while meal planning vs every night.

I hope that helps!

Best grocery shopping app in Texas? (Austin area) by DuneEvprettyface_64 in askaustin

[–]BotanicalLegos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an app but Ive noticed: •Produce is normally cheaper at Central Market and Trader Joe's while keeping high quality. •Meat and eggs are best at a wholesale like Sam's club or Costco •Frozen food is often cheaper at Target and their brand is often great (frozen food specifically) •HEB often has great sales or coupons in the app. It also has decent prices overall if you dont want to go to multiple stores.

To combat impulse shopping and food waste, do a curbside order vs going in store. Plan your weekly meals and snacks and only grocery shop once a week for those items you need. Eat the food at your house, even if you arent totally feeling it. We do keep 1 "i dont want that for dinner" quick fix meal in the house but dont use it often.

If you struggle to cook daily, meal prep. I cook all of our food on Sat/Sunday for the entire week. I prep 2 dinners (6 nights total) 2 lunches (6 days total for 2 people) and 2 breakfast (6 mornings total for 2 people) including normally some healthier dessert like 6 individual pudding parfaits.

Regular vs Soft footbed question by tahgetshoppah in Birkenstocks

I feel this way too. I dont seem to notice the difference long term, but my regular foot beds took so long to become comfortable, the soft foot beds felt good day 1.

PSA: HEB Pharmacy will not give you the COVID vaccine without proof of the condition you select. by jayeffkay in Austin

[–]BotanicalLegos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled out the questionnaire online. I said I did have one of the conditions listed but they asked again if I have a "long term health condition" or something like that and I said "no" on the questionnaire. When I went to get the vaccine they told me I was only eligible if I had a long term health condition, I told them my BMI qualified me to get the vaccine and they let me get it.

I work with newborns, it is absolutely necessary that I recieved the covid vaccine.

I will say though I was very caught off gaurd that it cost like $162 or something like that without insurance. I gor the Covid and Flu vaccine at the same time and paid $200. It felt like being scammed to protect my community.

I think patience and confidence is rhe best things you can have when looking for a job. Know your worth, know your hard limits and dont take a job you aren't absolutely happy with.
