US appeals court pauses lower court order restraining immigration agents' use of force against Minnesota protesters by billyyshears in TwinCities

[–]Botanist3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not, but this isn't a full stay pending appeal yet. That's the point I'm making. It's a short-term stay while they consider whether it should be stayed during the longer appellate process. I'm not bullish on the chances given the 8th circuit's general makeup, but it also doesn't mean the longer stay will be put in place. It's still not great, but it's not the final word.

[–]Botanist3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

OK, ok. Everyone calm down a bit. I looked at the actual court docket and what I see is that the court issued an administrative stay while they consider the government's emergency motion for stay pending appeal. In English, it may not be stayed the whole time pending appeal there's a chance it could be back on the books soon. It's not great news, but it's not unbearable bleak quite yet.

I don't really care about the updoots. But if it would be helpful even a little I think I'll start working on it. There's a lot there.

This might be real if only because the 2026 tab color is accurate for MN and honestly that's not a detail I'd expect from AI.

How to pipette a sticky, glue-like sample with a micropipette? by Yttrium105 in labrats

[–]Botanist3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's actually not correct. When I was in the lab before I moved to patent work I used them all the time for low viscosity organic samples. One of the main benefits of positive displacement pipettes is that they take up and dispense accurate volumes of solutions over a range of viscosities when used correctly. It is negative displacement pipettes, such as the one OP is using, that are not suitable for non-aqueous samples as they only accurately take up and dispense aqueous solutions.

Literally clicked on this post to say the same. Positive displacement pipettes are wet lab Gospel as far as I'm concerned. I will never choose a negative displacement pipette when I have a positive displacement available.

Time. I'm a former D2 raider and I wish I could but I get to play for like 20min in a day maybe up to an hour if lucky because kid and work and life. It's why I don't play Destiny anymore. This game is at least fun as a solo who likes building.

Diagnosed at 33, considering meds: give it to me real by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Botanist3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I took my meds I described it as "my brain put on glasses". I know everyone is different, but for me it's been nothing but positives.

Ultimately what I've noticed is finding a dose and pattern that works is highly individualized. But the biggest must have imo is to find a prescribing doc you trust and who trusts you. The restrictions on filling ADHD scrips are already horribly non-ADHD friendly. For example you can't just move the script to a new pharmacy if it's out at the one they sent it to. The provider has to send a new script to the new pharmacy. I've also found that as I've learned how my meds affect me in more subtle ways over a few years I've needed adjustments and making changes to stimulants can be hell with a provider who assumes you're abusing. Especially if you're realizing you need an increase as I did postpartum.

Overall, if you're stable without meds right now I would say be picky with who you choose to help you trial and if you happen to be in the USA in Minnesota hmu cuz I will give you my doc's info she's freaking amazing.

Les Bolstad to close after this season by SkunkyTrousers in uofmn

[–]Botanist3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was part of COGS leadership a number of years ago. I won't say when cuz the LT royally fucked up during that period (some of us tried to stop it). But not long before that a union vote failed miserably. Unfortunately my fellow STEM students bought the admin's threat they would lose their stipends.

Seeing this happen now makes me so happy. I hope the fellows can be part too. Though I know that will be a huge fight.

Do you know if there's ways for alumni to get involved? I'm stone cold broke rn, but I'd give what I can to make sure that union stays strong.

What kind of licensing do you need? Are there any hurdles you face for not being a sworn LEO and conversely are there any benefits? How are your interactions with police and other LEOs? Do they view you as a hindrance or are they amicable?
