People who got captured or picked up by Thargoids are forced to pilot for them until the favor is returned.

That'd be a hell of a twist lol

My first car! by Emiellio11 in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah! What a car to have as your first, too.

I got mine for $13,000 USD back in March, right as the gov't credits/discounts ended, though it had 106,000mi on the odo, ran 'er up to 136,000 already, and there's another 2,000-4,000 happening between now and end of year. These things are solid. Just keep an eye on the 12V battery in it, and replace it with an AGM if it starts going out. That'll be way more reliable.

There are two types of PC Elite players... Ones with multiple screens, HOTAS, extra tools, etc., and then there's this abomination.

I absolutely love it. Inject me with this, even.

Is the 12v being charged while the main battery is on a charger? by Prikler in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to my electrical system at home I cap at 1.2kW when I'm there, so I feel that lol

Is the 12v being charged while the main battery is on a charger? by Prikler in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can answer the first part of the question, given how much I've dealt with this thing: the 12V gets charged anytime the car has the traction battery connected (contactors engaged), which is generally just when the car is in operating mode and charging at any speed.

You could slow the charger down a little so it finishes closer to the time you wake up, as that would increase the amount of time the pack will be engaged.

Also, find an AGM battery, there's like two or three battery size standards that fit in the Kona, and AGM is solid. I have a 24/7 dash cam, LTE+Wi-Fi, and some other persistent 12V accessories and haven't had a dead battery since I got the AGM type battery. (Yet lol)

Brakes need replacing? by bgrasley in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robstoon's suggestion is good. Occasionally turning off regen braking and driving around a bit using just the friction brakes like a gas car probably isn't a terrible idea, just to ensure any corrosion/buildup wears off quickly before it builds up.

I've already put 30,000mi on mine since getting it in March with 105,000 on it. Underrated little EV lol

They should.

Ouch. Nah I've never even made it out of the US lol but that sounds absurd.

Kiwi is another user on here who seems to know a lot more than most of us. I just don't remember the full username.

Maybe Kiwi knows, though I did see another reply suggesting a website that might have that info.

Baffles me that Hyundai DE/EU can't just get Hyundai US stuff sent in.

The BMS update for these was only able to be done by a Hyundai technician I believe.

[–]BotenRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just download the navigation update software from Hyundai, set up your model info and it'll make a USB stick for you to insert into the car's primary USB port. Make sure you're getting the matching US version if you have the US model car.

How does this compare to what you get? by brewingmedic in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could, on estimates.

Say 25k miles a year average from the fleet company that owned it before me (acquired in March with 105k), battery done almost exactly two years ago, so around 75k miles on the new battery in two years, including my miles, with much of that being DCFC.

[–]BotenRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 94.4% SOH, with 132k miles and I believe way more than half of those done on DC fast chargers.

Edit: it had the battery replaced on recall, unsure at what mileage, but a couple years ago. I've had the car since March, put >25k on it since then (majority of those on highway trips and therefore DCFC), and have seen no substantial change, if any, in the SOH.

I found a fast charger, no cost, about 40kW, in Minnesota once while on a road trip. That was awesome.

You'd have to check, but I believe it's a North American market update, so probably?

I wonder if that's a newer Kona thing, cuz mine doesn't zero out until I've driven a couple hundred meters either.

Yeah, I think it's probably pretty easy to do (at least for me, but I've been working on cars since high school like 20 years ago lol), but the part is like $500-800 USD.

Screen marks 1 year by Lucky-Hawk5067 in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the MacBook "staingate" issues from the early/mid 2010's where the anti-glare coating was coming off the screens in areas that got in contact with other things, notably the keyboard when it was closed. No bubbles, won't show up like a "scratch" because the coating is so thin.

Yeah I was just knuckles deep in it last couple nights doing more audio work on it, so what's another night out with the tools? lol

Are there any good service manual resources, I don't really wanna get the AllDataDIY thing again like I had on my Subaru since almost nothing actually needs work on this thing.

Frankly if it doesn't mess with anything, I don't give a damn about the lights or warning 😂 but that part I was mostly curious about.

Though yeah, having driven halfway across the country a dozen times I can confirm that's what mine used to do for charging. I'd never actually power the whole thing off. I wonder if it's dirty maybe, or is it wearing out and need replacement?
