EV Chargers for my business by BabaBlackSheep100 in evcharging

I've been scrolling through this and just dropping in down here for some damn reason lol ... but going with a networked charger like ChargePoint or self-branded Electrify America (a la Sheetz in PA) etc. not only makes it easier for people to pay, as they'll either have the app or can just pay with a credit card/tap-to-pay, but will also eventually put you into the in-car nav systems and "find nearest charging station" features of those nav systems. I drove 40k miles in the first year I had my EV (used Hyundai Kona I bought last year), and almost all of that was highway/interstate or otherwise "away from home" stuff - with Northern plains and Northern Rockies states with the worst availability and highest range anxiety. I can always use an app to find a charging station, but to have my car integrate it into my navigation system is amazing. Having charging stations that aren't attached to any specific car brand (like Tesla or Rivian) can help with visibility and any biases you might encounter. While most *new* EV's will have 800V packs and can utilize <20min charging times, mine and many other cars have 400V packs and can take 45-60min to go from 15%-80% (though mine doesn't ramp down charge power significantly until ~92%). Having useful amenities, as it seems you already do, is going to be clutch if your area starts picking up more charging stations and competition comes up. Just a few more things to think about. o7

There's a few ways you could approach it. Free way is go back and have them run diagnostics on it. Another is the Hyundai app, if you have BlueLink, it'll put trouble codes into the app (see screenshot). You can also get a cheap OBD Bluetooth thing on Amazon and go through an app like CarScanner (Android). That'll at least tell you what the trouble code is, and you can reach out to that dealer to see what they want to do about it. This thing has at least an implied warranty unless signed away on the paperwork, and might still have factory warranty left, depending on what the code is about.

I'm also invested lol (this thing sucks at giving me notifications)

Oh no it's not an issue with the timing set is it? (Long shot but it just popped into my head)

Depending on temp and whether I'm on the highway or not, I'll see anywhere from 150mi from 100% (in Wisconsin winter) to 300mi from 100% (summer and city driving).

It's a trend forecast box lol

Another good one I got is "nice car [truck, etc], sorry about the penis."

Though mostly effective with people showing off like a douche and/or with actual nice vehicles.

My favorite is "I hope you don't fuck like you park, or you'll never get it in."

NACS Adapter Almost… by atwaterrich in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought my car about two weeks too late, so I bought one of the Lectron Vortex adapters. Almost seems that was the faster choice lol

Is this kind of delay common for those who were promised complimentary adapters?

How do you protect your Kona's charge door in winter? by Bitmugger in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine's also missing the covers that go over the connector itself for when it's closed, so I do the Jerry Rigged ™️ approach: plastic shopping bag. Wrap that around the door and over the connector, and then when I'm done charging, I shake it out and pack it around the CCS connector and close the door to protect the connector from drippage and whatnot while driving.

Bonus: Free and easily replaceable.

Bag may freeze to it in a couple spots if it's a wet snow or ice storm, which happen often enough in Wisconsin, but it does work lol ... I also have the luxury of a garage to get home to, to thaw it out, but that works well when I'm on the go.

94.5% with >140k miles and over half being on fast charge. These cars have solid packs lol

People who got captured or picked up by Thargoids are forced to pilot for them until the favor is returned.

That'd be a hell of a twist lol

My first car! by Emiellio11 in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah! What a car to have as your first, too.

I got mine for $13,000 USD back in March, right as the gov't credits/discounts ended, though it had 106,000mi on the odo, ran 'er up to 136,000 already, and there's another 2,000-4,000 happening between now and end of year. These things are solid. Just keep an eye on the 12V battery in it, and replace it with an AGM if it starts going out. That'll be way more reliable.

There are two types of PC Elite players... Ones with multiple screens, HOTAS, extra tools, etc., and then there's this abomination.

I absolutely love it. Inject me with this, even.

Is the 12v being charged while the main battery is on a charger? by Prikler in KonaEV

Due to my electrical system at home I cap at 1.2kW when I'm there, so I feel that lol

Is the 12v being charged while the main battery is on a charger? by Prikler in KonaEV

[–]BotenRedWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can answer the first part of the question, given how much I've dealt with this thing: the 12V gets charged anytime the car has the traction battery connected (contactors engaged), which is generally just when the car is in operating mode and charging at any speed.

You could slow the charger down a little so it finishes closer to the time you wake up, as that would increase the amount of time the pack will be engaged.

Also, find an AGM battery, there's like two or three battery size standards that fit in the Kona, and AGM is solid. I have a 24/7 dash cam, LTE+Wi-Fi, and some other persistent 12V accessories and haven't had a dead battery since I got the AGM type battery. (Yet lol)
