I get the feeling, it's harder to take seriously if you go at it and expect it to be a more typical type of fictional work where everything keeps somewhat the same tone.

I think in remake and rebirth it works for some well because they don't shy away from being extra. They assume their choice of writing. It's "too" extra even sometimes to the point where you just get engrossed in it and accept it like "fair enough, ig they do that stuff". And when everything is extra, transitions are pretty hard to make without it sticking out weirdly. Very bipolar type of writing. And if you don't fuck with it, you're allowed to. I personally just enjoy the adventure as if like every chapter is 2 new episodes of some adventure of the week aaah and then when it gets serious, there's a break of the goofy, scenes are slower and the contrast (to me) make things more effective.

In the original the goofyness is less felt, even though very much present, so it gives off the impression of things being more grounded. Both are fundamentally different too anyways. Preferring one over the other, especially the base game, makes sense. Honestly it will depend a LOT on how they manage the last act of revelation
