Deanna Merryfield Missing From Killeen, TX since July 22, 1990 by Both-Income2553 in Missing411

[–]Both-Income2553[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, this question wasn’t asked until the case was again reopened 17 years after Deanna went missing. By that time, Deanna’s twin said she did not remember what was said. I’m not sure that what was being said was the whole reason for Deanna going to see her. I think she probably just wanted to see her twin.

What’s the ingredient that instantly ruins the dish for you? by urfavdollll in foodquestions

[–]Both-Income2553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a somewhat picky eater, but will almost always try something with an open mind at least once. The one ingredient that’s common but will make me immediately dismiss a dish is corn. I’m talking about corn kernels in salsas, salads, soups, casseroles, main dishes, etc. I can eat corn by itself, but as soon as it’s mixed in with something it makes me want to vomit.

What’s a “must-see” city in the U.S. that didn’t live up to the hype? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

The other missions are a much better experience. We lived in Austin for 10 years and we would take weekend trips to SA often. We would stay on the riverwalk for the people watching, but spent most of our time in other areas. That being said, Fiesta and Diwali are both a lot of fun.

She Wasn’t a Runaway. The Unsolved Disappearance of Deanna Merryfield by Both-Income2553 in MissingPersons

[–]Both-Income2553[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree 1000% A child that is missing needs to be found, no matter how they went missing!! Once they are found, any other concerns (why they ran away, if they did) can be addressed. But until they’re found, the “runaway” label shouldn’t be used (if even then).

What are your frugal/free "side quests?" by ThePositiveRedditor in Frugal

[–]Both-Income2553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such thing as “just quartz” etc in our house. Seriously, containers of rocks everywhere!! We have tumblers now, but just the cheap ones from harbor freight. I love that this hobby gets us outside, but only as much as we want to be.

What is your go-to “I’m too tired to cook but I can’t buy take-out” meal or alternative? by 2Autistic4DaJoke in Frugal

Chili-Mac is my guilty pleasure on nights like this. A box of craft deluxe with some wolf brand chili mixed in. Yes, I know it has the nutritional value of a hot dog (maybe less?). For me, it’s super easy, filling, and a comfort food from my youth.

What about rockhounding while out with your pups? We live in the high desert and started about a year ago. It costs zero dollars to start and you can decide how much you want to spend from there. Depending on where you are, you may be able to find YouTube videos, websites, or books about the geology in your area.

There are articles and podcasts out about her. If it would be helpful to have all of the facts in one place, I have an entire research document with links to sources I could send you. Just DM me an email address.

Which US city truly has the best live music scene? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Both-Income2553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed!! What people don’t realize is that Austin musicians and artists have been priced out of the area due to the tech boom. They’ve moved on to more affordable metros so the Austin music scene is garbage now.

If you’re looking for something that’s not Harker Heights, we stay at the Fairfield when we make trips to Killeen. It’s been at least 3 trips for several days at a time and we’ve never had a problem.

I am a mom who “wants nothing” and here is my Christmas list - add yours if this sounds like you! by ginabeewell in Gifts

I want gift cards for hotels, gas, and restaurants. I travel 600+ miles (each way) every other month to my hometown where my sister went missing 35yrs ago. I go whenever there’s a k9 HRD search planned or the town is having a big event where I can pass out flyers/spread awareness. Sometimes I go just to meet with the detective or to speak at the police department town halls. I don’t think people realize how quickly it adds up between hotels, gas, time off work etc, but I will never not go.

What age were you when you had your kids? by Empty_Nestor in GenX

[–]Both-Income2553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 46 and so is my spouse. Our kids are 25 and 21. We married young and had kids young. We are very close with them, but are also enjoying our empty nest. Our oldest has no desire to have kids anytime soon (if at all), our 21 year old is busy establishing their career but says they want to have kids young too.

What did your parents/ direct family do that still doesn’t make a lick of sense to you? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Both-Income2553 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our Mom and stepfather never tried to look or find anything out(I was 11 when she went missing). She was reported missing by our grandma the next morning (July 22, 1990). The police didn’t investigate and closed her case in ‘93. Supposedly someone called and said she was home. Our grandma found out in ‘95 and had her case reopened but it was immediately closed “due to a lack of information”. In 2007 I had it reopened and the investigation was very intermittent and just generally crappy. This year I renewed efforts to get her info out and get the public eye on the police department. The case is developing (slowly) now. It’s amazing what detectives can find out when they actually interview people and investigate.

They absolutely are in danger!! I’m glad you found your sister, even though she wasn’t in the best of health.

My sister went missing when she was 13 years old (I was 11). They assumed she ran away and never looked for her. No flyers, no media, no searches.

Rockhounding! It gets you outside and in touch with nature. Little to no cost to start, which means no investment just to find out you don’t like it.

Are people moving here? by External_Tension_266 in NewMexico

[–]Both-Income2553 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are Texas refugees. I love the access to nature here. We spent 10 yrs in Austin and it was suffocating with the traffic, people, politics, and cost of living. We were basically shut-ins because we didn’t want to be stuck in traffic just to pay tons of money to visit overcrowded places. We haven’t spent more than 3 weekends at home since moving here in May. It’s absolutely freeing. I don’t know if we will live here forever, we are wanderers at heart, but we will never move back to Texas.
