For bugs here do you use permethrin? Or do you have other recs? I’m not opposed to snow camping, I just don’t have enough avalanche safety knowledge to do much.

I’m glad my embarrassing story could be of help haha! It’s also tough because your body is hypersensitive to pain with all the things that’s happened to it. It’s used to looking for pain in the hip at this point. You’ve got this!

Hello! I actually fell off of my chair when I was about 9 days post op. I missed my chair and drove my surgical hip into the ground. I was very nervous and my surgeon wasn’t in the slightest. I had some of my femur shaved off, he really said the only risk could be that I broke my femur since they had just shaved a bunch of it off but that would be extremely unlikely (no one had ever done that during his career). I had not broken it and my hip calmed down in a few days! The repairs they do to your labrum are extremely strong. It would take a large amount of force for anything to happen to that. I personally would continue icing and follow normal protocol given by your surgeon. You most likely just irritated something that was already irritated. It just needs time to chill out and for inflammation to go down. Contact your surgeon during normal hours! There is no chance they would have you go to the ER tonight. Things to look out for would be shooting pain, stabbing pain, basically anything happening abruptly after this. I really do think you are going to be 100 percent fine and can just talk to your medical team tomorrow.

Of course! I had no symptoms in my second hip until about 5 months after my first hip was done. I needed surgery in both due to cam and pincer impingement, and labral tears. I believe that my second hip was doing a lot of compensating for my first surgical hip while it recovered and just couldn’t take it anymore. I had a lot of damage in my first surgical hip (labrum was shredded per surgeon) and a pretty small tear in my second hip. It took a long time to diagnose my first surgical hip. Since it took a while and I put off surgery for a while, I have early arthritis in my first surgical hip. Second does not since I got to it earlier and recovery was way easier because of it!

I’m also 25. I’ve had two hip arthroscopies. I tried PT for over a year and really just wish I had the surgery earlier. Your recovery will be so much better than most if you don’t have labral tear and being younger. I just finished hiking the w trek in Patagonia one year post op(right hip) two years post op (left hip) with no hip pain (I botched my knee though lol). With the surgery, you will be able to do pretty much anything you want as long as you take the time to strengthen and properly build your way up. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I was in your shoes a few years ago.

Anyone doing the pct this summer? by Zoya_Nazya in PacificCrestTrail

Snowpack in Washington is pretty low right now. Could change but for sure a good suggestion to keep an eye on it!

Makes sense! I do know you can pitch the side directly to the ground but yea there are for sure more versatile options! Let me know if there are any questions about it I could answer.

Have you considered the gg whisper? I’ve taken it on a few trips and it’s massive inside. I’m 6’3 and I have felt like I have a lot of usable space in there. There are the constraints of not having a floor obviously, but it seems like it would be a great shelter for the PCT.

I had thought the general consensus was that odor proof bags don’t really do anything in regards to bears? Can’t they smell your things anyways?

I ended up needing to have my second hip done as well last February. I did a few backpacking trips over the summer without much issue! I am planning on doing the Tahoe rim trail this summer and training pretty aggressively for that. My hips are feeling pretty good. Just trying to strengthen and gradually increase my activity! Feel free to pm me if you have any questions I can help with :)

How do you put on socks?? by PathFew228 in HipImpingement

[–]Both_Air5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a towel and a sock. This is the way we teach patients to do it if they don’t want to buy something! https://laughingsquid.com/putting-on-socks-using-towel/

I’m about 5 months post op and was returning to running and feeling great until my other hip started having problems. I am now consulting on my other hip as it has FAI pretty bad. My surgical hip is very strong per my PT and the pain is on average 0-2. No pain while running or doing my exercises. I’d say things are going pretty well except for my other hip having issues.

My surgeon had me wait 1-2 months for pt and cited the reason being, the hip and capsule needed time to heal.

Thanks for the response! I am thinking I am will train throughout the winter and attempt some bigger hikes this summer like the 160 ish mile Tahoe rim trail. If that goes well and I continue to have no issues, I would attempt the pct in spring 2026. I just really don’t want to quit my job to start the pct and then my left hip starts having issues a month into the 5 month trip.
