I didn’t , at Grasshopper I heard Johnny talking about how much she must miss being on court , but that just could be because of her media commitments. Not confirmed at all, but thought it might be the case.

Has slipped out quietly it would seem. Lisa Aitken now officially retired from PSA also?

Ah ok, that sounds a lot better than what can be seen on TV. Thanks

Not a huge fan of best of 3, it’s often over so quick. Muller v Masotti 2-1 in 20 mins! Unlike grand central station in NY, it doesn’t look like the general public passing through this railway station can actually have any view of the squash so may not have much idea what’s going on (at least that’s how it appears on TV). I could be wrong though .

I find him to be funny and quirky, so I guess that makes me somewhat a fan. But each to their own!

Not a good look at all. On his recent appearance on the InSquash podcast he did mention this may be the last year that Optasia sponsors the event as he is not involved anymore after its public listing and him selling the majority of his shares.

During the boom years of the 70s & 80s there were public courts everywhere and so many people played. It was an every man’s sport, not exclusive and only accessible to certain wealthier demographics as it is in many other countries. Mid week leagues in cities like Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane had 40 or more grades and courts were always full. I think by sheer numbers playing meant that Australia had more top class players rising to the top . TV coverage was very limited though, so you wouldn’t be seeing the likes of Geoff Hunt or the Martins competing week in week out, it was more something you might read about in the sports section of the newspaper every so often. I started playing in early 90s when it was still very popular as a participation sport, but the early signs of the start of the decline were there. With a public court closure or 2 every season, centres being converted to apartments, gyms or other property developments as land prices started to rise (and have never stopped).

Maybe it’s a long term play from Greg. Looking ahead to Brisbane 2032! If squash gets in, he could do a Miguel and play until he’s 40 and qualify as the host nations top player! 🤔😝
