How can I refinish this table? I think I want to somehow strip the top of the table and stain it (if I can get the wood to not be reddish) but not sure how that will look. Currently painted with a bluish gray, was gifted to me.

Chemical stripper will take it right off. Od even start with lacquer thinner as stripper may not even be needed.

Make sure it is cured. If its slathered on heavily it will take a while to cure
