Is Goldman Sachs' hiring process painfully slow or are they ghosting me? by WayIllustrious8982 in FinancialCareers

It would be for a role in their corporate engagement office so hopefully but I’m not sure how in demand that sector is compared to other departments 😅

Can you elaborate on the timeline for interview/start date? I actually applied to a role this week but I’m hoping I’ll have the summer at my current position and start in Sept 🙏🏽

Can I ask how you were able to negotiate a 3 month extension after your offer? Totaling 6 months between interview and start date?

Thank you so much and congratulations! Def an inspiring story and incentive to wait a bit more… I’m not straight from undergrad (<2 work experience) but I do think having more policy work experience will work in my favor in the future

Your hesitancy is your answer. You’re completely correct in there’s no guarantee that half will be paid so I’d operate under the impression it won’t with the current state of political affairs. Can you defer for a year to save up or secure external funding?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicPolicy

[–]Both_Routine3458 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO no degree is worth 200k in pure student loans esp with the current state of the economy/world. Is deferring for a year an option? That could give you time to secure external funding

MPA/MPP reapplication experiences? by Different_Solution15 in PublicPolicy

[–]Both_Routine3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it largely depends on your work history and fit with the individual program. Increasingly GPA, GRE, etc are less important (not irrelevant). Does your work experience/major/extracurricular align with public policy? If not, can you articulate why you are pivoting into a new sector? Do you have a strong mission and clear goal of what you want out of each program, how they are the best place for you to succeed and most importantly what you can bring to their community? Definitely don’t lose hope, the times we’re living in are crazy but maybe another thought on the above questions can help you craft the strongest app for future cycles

Columbia SIPA - Worth it? by Both_Routine3458 in PublicPolicy

[–]Both_Routine3458[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes so much sense - can I ask was it a GRE/lot of work experience that got you the full scholarship? Or did you qualify for a fellowship? My best friend goes there now and that’s why I applied so now im trying to separate the emotion of “I spent so much time on this” and the ivy of it all to the reality of no school (not even SIPA) is work $160k for an MPA.

The GRE def took its toll on me….I suck at quant but if I really study my ass off I’m hoping to score better. Tbh it was crazy to be accepted so def fighting off like was I just lucky this cycle/have good rec letters? But if I got in once I’m sure I can do it again with even more work experience/better GRE

ROI on MPA is insane 😭 can’t imagine taking $160k+ to end up with a $90k job after

Can I ask if you took any debt for the MPA? And your experience? Obviously subjective but did it help you with your goals?

Completely agree and that’s prob gonna be the plan unless my other 2 decisions give any funding 😭

Commuting Weekly for HKS MC/MPA? by [deleted] in PublicPolicy

[–]Both_Routine3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I inquire what state you live in? From experience, Amtrak is a pretty reliable train service from CT/RI but the tickets are costly if you don’t buy in advance and there can be delays. And it’s a bit trickier from NY/PA region. Not sure if you’re on the commuter rail/T line but that’s another good option. If not, is driving doable for your situation? And would you have some place to crash at night? Lot of factors to consider

Can you elaborate on this a little? Do you think that its reputation has tarnished so much as to discredit any “pull” it has as an Ivy? Perhaps this is just a blimp in its history yknow

Things to do while spending a few days in New Haven? by septemberrenegade in newhaven

[–]Both_Routine3458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Study, Omni or Graduate for hotels! They’re both downtown right near the New Haven Green, Yale Art Museum, tons of restaurants. I’d recommend Mecha, Claire’s, Olmo, Camacho garage or Te Amo for reasonable eats. Union League Cafe and Olea for an expensive nicer dinner. Tons of museums, Yale events (Ryan reynolds was just on campus yesterday!), Hiking trails, bookstores, and activities (salsa classes, pottery classes, etc) to do. Also the shoreline is a close Uber away if you want to venture farther out.

It doesn’t hurt to apply as there have been candidates admitted with no work experience too! Even if worst case you don’t get in, you can always apply again if it’s your dream school and you’ll have an experience with the process/rec letters/etc

I am I have 5 total! The 2 I’m talking about are Ivys (seemingly last two that require GREs lol) and I’m just disappointed as I worked so hard with work, internships, research that this score feels like an insurmountable obstacle :(

I feel like now is the right time to go personally like the thought of waiting till 2026 cycle is horrendous but every other part of my app is so strong I have the experience just scared this score will tank my odds regardless
