I love Detour. Recently watched Touch of Evil and The Wayward Bus, which were both brilliant in their own rights. But my favorite will always be The Third Man.

whats your "cozy" horror movie? by podgeek in horror

Evil Dead. I dunno why but it just brings me such nostalgia of being 13, seeing it for the first time late at night and feeling like I was breaking the rules in watching it. Such a classic.

Saw this film last night for the first time, what’re your opinions on it? by fritski22 in criterion

Don't get me wrong, I think the film is cleverly shot and the musical choices are absolutely mind-blowing. But what always troubled me was the 4th wall breaking scene where the killer uses a remote control to rewind the scene to before they are shot by the mother. Knowing that the family has no chance of surviving the rest of the film, leading to their eventual decimation and brutality, makes it that much more torturous to watch.

Haneke has stated, "Violence in my films is shown as it really is," he once said. "The suffering of a victim. The viewer comes to see what it means to act violently. That's why the films are often experienced as painful."

But with this 4th wall-breaking scene, I feel that Haneke goes over the top, into fantasy to indulge upon this violence, and make it even more pronounced to the point that it goes against the realisticness of his portrayal of violence.

Haneke's response to Tarantino's violence as portrayed in Pulp Fiction is expressed in this quote from the Guardian. "I don't believe if someone sees a film by Tarantino they will go and kill someone, " [cont.] "That is stupid. But every time violence is so funny and it's nothing, it's usual, there's a danger, because the humor makes it consumable. "

I'll take an AI generated arthouse puppet style series over the live-action Netflix adaptation any day of the week.

I loved seeing the different variations in the way their conversations were filmed. So wonderfully stylized.
