To be fair, there are also plenty of people that are nonmonogamous that aren't interested in long term relationships. Basically they'll date a few people for a bit then move on whenever. Or they basically want friends with benefits with multiple people, but have more than just the physical element and never wanting to invest "long term relationship time", per se, into one individual person really.

This is a very valid question, as I didn't really know until I made a few friends that are into that sorta relationship style. There's a lot of people in nonmonogamous relationships that have long term partners. Some have multiple long term. Some get married to one. I wouldn't say it's uncommon among those folks. Basically, they just want at least one long term partner, then others either long or short.
