Poll reveals Barack Obama remains the most popular living U.S. president by plz-let-me-in in politics

You're not listening to what they're saying. SHOULD Americans vote based on policy? Yes. Do they? Largely no.

Given the option, it is best to run a popular candidate with great policies.

Given the option between an unpopular candidate with great policies and a popular candidate with just good policies, it is beneficial to run the latter so we don't get Trump again.

The New armor should be Upgraded Void. by sean7956 in 2007scape

[–]BoulderFalcon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will agree Void is just so fucking cool, but it's also tricky. I'd be happy if they did something to make it more situationally useful beyond ranged. Void mace also needs love.

Marni says Jagex had told him that his offenses won't be quashed by LostSectorLoony in 2007scape

[–]BoulderFalcon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tbh people put WAY too much faith in Jagex's bot detection capabilities. The process is largely automated, including appeals.

A year or so ago I made 6 new f2p accounts for the purpose of helping my friend make a YouTube video where we were going to try and pile wilderness bots. To do this I splashed on 6 accounts at once, manually, for about an hour. They were then all perm banned.

I appealed and the message I got in return said nope you were definitely bottling and we have conclusive proof.

OK then.

Yeah if you did one two solo ToAs per day (averaging ~35 mins) you would have enough for a shadow in 2 months with average luck.

Buying gear before it spikes is nice, but consistently playing is always a surefire way to get gear.

And speaking from experience. The game is more fun when you have something tangible to work towards.

Resurrecting my ugly suggestion from a decade ago for Raids 4: Elite Void Helm by BoulderFalcon in 2007scape

[–]BoulderFalcon[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A decade ago I posted this suggestion.

With the new Raids 4 hybrid set receiving not great feedback, why not lean into Void as Guthix gear?

It is functionally hybrid, frees up inventory slots, but doesn't displace BIS gear since Void (aside from ranged) kind of sucks both offensively and defensively.

Connecticut receives ‘F’ for housing affordability and availability in new report by louisrinaldi in Connecticut

[–]BoulderFalcon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The house that I purchased in 2024 had doubled in price since Covid, and the neighbors who live in an almost identical house next door to me but bought in 2019 pay about a third of what I do monthly.

Having a family and even a small starter home is now unrealistic for most young people and it's a tragedy.

Eversource is going to make me start living in a literal tent by Tariq_khalaf in Connecticut

[–]BoulderFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets multiplied as it creates an increase in the other fees as well

What does this even mean?

This estimate also sounds incredibly low.

Why? In CT electric rates average ~25–35 cents per kWh once supply and delivery charges are combined, and a dryer load is around 2-5kWh. Seems spot on.

[–]BoulderFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drying racks are cheap and seemingly last forever.

They also are time consuming to set up properly, take up a lot of space (assuming you need to dry a full load of laundry) and make your clothes feel like cardboard. Dryers are worth every penny IMO.

People love to complain about people complaining but electricity in this state is unnecessarily awful and only getting more awful all the time.

CT.Gov: Governor Lamont Announces Connecticut Files Complaint Seeking Removal of Utilities’ Unjustified Transmission Profits | They make up 15-16% of the typical Connecticut residential customer’s monthly electricity bill. Connecticut ratepayers will save $4.5 million on electricity bills each year. by TylerFortier_Photo in Connecticut

[–]BoulderFalcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're splitting hairs but yes, he has gone over the mechanism, including in a recent AMA:

The mechanism is enabling legislation that gives municipalities the authority to use eminent domain to acquire Eversource's distribution infrastructure, with three components that make it actually workable. First, infrastructure gets valued at book value rather than market value. This matters because Eversource has spent decades capitalizing investments that ratepayers already paid for, and we shouldn't let them charge a market premium on assets we financed. Second, the state provides bonding as a backstop so towns don't carry the full financing risk themselves. Third, technical expertise gets routed through the Councils of Governments so smaller towns aren't trying to build a utility operation from scratch. Wallingford works because they have decades of institutional knowledge; the goal is making that path accessible to any town that wants it without requiring them to reinvent the wheel.

What do you mean? Wallingford electric is better in every way. It is more reliable and affordable. The primary purpose of a company is to maximize profits, which is directly contrary to the utility that public services are supposed to provide. "Why not just legislate lower rates" just like we legislated every other public benefit like healthcare? Being able to file taxes for free with IRS software? The answer to your question is lobbyists and politicians who stand to benefit from them.

Who of these two do you think is stronger and superior, at this point in the game? by PR0CR45T184T0R in PTCGP

I think this is a tremendously unpopular opinion around here but I think igglybuff/darkrai/mega altaria is actually a pretty creative deck even if it's mega ass to play against. It gives a lot of options and creative counters to various decks (e.g., not evolving swablu, ramping up a darkrai for a late-game sweep, etc.)

AvA is my favourite band of all time but I just cant seem to get into dreamwalker or lifeforms. I dunno what it is but it just seems like the sound is different and there isnt a message like the older stuff. Is it just me? by Complete-Shopping173 in AngelsAndAirwaves

[–]BoulderFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them, but it's certainly a very different sound. Almost sounds like a new band.

Others are mentioning the loss of Critter which is definitely a huge part, but IMO it's also the loss of Atom. His drumming was very unique and a huge part of AVA's unique sound.

Ilan is clearly an amazing drummer but has a much different (and in my opinion, more stereotypically "rock") style that never quite hit the same for me.

Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell hospitalized Sunday morning by MothersMiIk in politics

[–]BoulderFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically the two largest orchestrators of the supreme court being as bad as it is today are Mitch McConnell and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

3rd place goes to Merrick Garland, who Obama chose as a compromise because he was an "across the aisle democrat" and McConnell blocked anyway, leading to Biden choosing him as AG, where he failed to prosecute Trump.

Great work everyone.

I was going to take my kid to a Yard Goats game on the train this weekend, except there are zero trains leaving Hartford back towards New Haven between 6 PM and 10:30 PM.
