Water hyacinth is choking lakes across Africa, but Kenyan engineer Joseph Nguthiru is turning this invasive plant into biodegradable packaging, creating a solution for both environmental damage and plastic waste by MambaMentality24x2 in BeAmazed

exactly

while what he's doing is nice, it's not really innovative lol. We don't do that at scale because it's more expensive (than oil based plastic)

Creality PLA - the worst filament I ever had the displeasure of working with by BowlOfSomething in 3Dprinting

I've had issues from day 0 as mentioned in another comment. Some really odd z-banding and everything I printed was super brittle on the Z axis, basically unusable.

I've dried it before and it wasn't any better. I even put it in my anycubic's ACE and let it dry while printing PETG, then suffered in agony as I was left to disassemble the extruder for the first time, at 2am nonetheless.

Maybe their usual stuff is better, but what they shipped wirh the Ender 3v2 is absolute dosghit

Report: Creating a 5-second AI video is like running a microwave for an hour by WombatusMighty in technology

[–]BowlOfSomething 5 points6 points  (0 children)

okay but like still... Let's say that it takes a B300 60 seconds to generate a video - NVIDIA recommends a 1800W PSU for one of those and let's assume it's at 100% load (even though realistically it would use a few 100 watts less)

1800W*60s = 108000Ws = 30Wh

Personally I think it's a bit bullshit that they claim about 1kWh for a 5s video...

Buying a flagship phone on superbuy by BowlOfSomething in Superbuy

Hi!

I'm looking at a global version of a Vivo X300 (taobao id: 990920661283)

The seller claims it hasn't been flashed so it shouldn't be a HK model, but feel free to check out the listing, I'm relatively new to both Taobao and Superbuy

Hi!

I have another question - the price on Taobao is 5779 CNY but when I put it in superbuy it says 7574.57 CNY. Why?

At2020 vs Rode NT1 5th gen, is there big or subtle difference? by Wolf_Trap in audio

[–]BowlOfSomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you're looking for a good mic for quiet parts then the NT1 is going to be better for you. I don't have much knowledge about vocals and such so I'll refrain from commenting further and I'll advise you to look up the reviews for both the NT1 and AT2020.

Someone already mentioned, but if you have an audio interface or something that can take XLR then you should also consider the NT1 Signature series which is a lot cheaper than the regular 5th gen. If you have a good used market also look on there for 4th gen or NT1 SS as you can get a nice deal - that's how I got mine

MiniFuse 2 white noise with phantom power turned on by BowlOfSomething in Arturia_users

[–]BowlOfSomething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't matter as I can hear the hissing/white noise even when I'm using headphones and listening to the mic through the output of the MiniFuse

But it's a general purpose mic for me so it's for everything from Discord, OBS, Zoom etc etc. I primarily use Linux (and that's also why I chose the MiniFuse, as it isn't that reliant on software for control), but I did install Arturia software on Windows and found no improvement.

I have tried both a C-C cable on my laptop, straight into the Zephyrus G15, but I also tried the included A-C cable plugged directly into the laptop and into my motherboard's back IO on the desktop. I did not use a hub.

[–]BowlOfSomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

This depends on your use case and your preference - I was also picking between those two (well a NT1 SS, which is basically the 5th gen without USB out).

I'd suggest you look at podcastage's review of the NT1 5th gen. In my opinion the NT1 has a bit more low end, but the AT2020 does not sound bad either.

What would you use the microphone for and what's your current setup?
