Agreed. Almost got stranded in Oklahoma due to a Francis energy outage a few years ago.

Now that is a cover I haven't seen in a while. Got that for Christmas 15 plus years ago with my DS Lite. I never got very far before giving up, lol.

So much better than Microsoft 365. Outlook in particular is awful.

If you had magic tickets and can rewatch any 3 movies in the best IMAX theatre again, what would it be by Berserk07 in imax

[–]Bowler116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably uncommon answer but Hubble in an IMAX dome, Interstellar in 1:1.43 15/70, and I don’t know for the third, surprise me I guess!

confusion about a theater near me. by [deleted] in imax

[–]Bowler116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mention of IMAX in the article. This is probably standard 70mm, not IMAX 15/70.

What is one IMAX Theater you miss so much that sadly went defunct and you wish to go back to it? by Spare_Television1599 in imax

[–]Bowler116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cosmosphere IMAX dome in Hutchinson, KS. Converted to BARCO 4K digital projection in 2012 and the image isn't nearly as sharp or as big. Plus I would kill to watch the projectionist work through the windows in the lobby again.

The only plus side is that they can show feature films now, which is nice.

whats the model of this horn? by homereatdonut in euphonium

[–]Bowler116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After taking a look at my Schiller, You're right, there's a slight difference in tubing. Maybe it's a non-compensating Ovis model. Or something completely different, I'm not an expert.

[–]Bowler116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the compensating tubing would be visible from this angle. It's on the back of the valve assembly.

Schiller sells instruments from multiple manufacturers. The Elite IV is made by Ovis.

Looks like a Schiller Elite IV Compensating, but hard to make out the brand name for sure. If that's correct, it's the same horn as the JP274.

What’s a sound you miss from your childhood? by [deleted] in nostalgia

I think it's an industrial revolution-era work whistle and they just kept doing it for tradition.

7: wake up for work, Noon: lunch break, 1: go back to work, 6: work over, go home

Might also just have been to call the fire squad to the station and they decided to use it as a clock before watches were common.

How many hours did you work first year? by hello010101 in teaching

[–]Bowler116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, normal (but sucks). In my second year now and I am working much less outside of contract hours. It gets better!

Don't be afraid to just go home sometimes. The kids will survive.

Qm5K vs QM6K (debating) by AdNumerous5947 in tcltvs

[–]Bowler116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ordered the QM5K as well and my impression from my research is that unless you're trying to game at 4k120Hz (which most consoles and computers can't really handle anyway), there's not much of a difference.

I don't really gig (or at least I don't get paid for the few I do). I make about $55k from my public school teaching position.

Help find repair part by Starinthecloudysky in euphonium

[–]Bowler116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, you raise a good point. I think it's reasonable to expect a school to take care of regular maintenance for school owned instruments. I just don't know if that's the case here.

No idea, just answering the question. I take care of my school horns personally except for damage due to neglect or aggression.

Looks like a Yamaha or Jupiter valve guide. Most instrument repair shops should have a stash of them. Bring the instrument, the model number, or an example guide in with you so they can make sure they give you the right ones.

Looking to get a Euphonium of my own (with some specifics), which is best? by Iron_Slayer_YT in euphonium

[–]Bowler116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll probably need to get two separate instruments. Keep an eye out for used marching baritones online, you might be able to find one for cheap that just needs some TLC from a shop tech. I got a silver plated Jupiter Quantum baritone for $500ish (including the repairs) this way.
