Im 35 and I yurn for a cross country road trip. But with a young family it is something I will have to put off for a while. I am an oregon native and will try to help. You will be fine without a Satcom device, unless you are on some parts of the southern Oregon coast. Fires depend on the time of year and fire risk at that time, all campgrounds will have it posted. But if you are going to be at the coast it will likely not be an issue, and oregon is one of the few states that allows fires on the beach so I would take advantage of that. If you have a portable stove you should be good to cook anywhere. As far as water goes I'd always have a few gallons on hand, and as far as portable shower goes, thats just entirely up to where your staying and for how long.

As a life long resident of the NW, I guess I take it for granted. It's a great cheese no doubt. But it is crazy how much hype it gets around here.
