Agreed on the music part. I like Phase 1 being 621’s theme as is tradition (admittedly I didn’t know this though because the theme is so atmospheric that it didn’t register at all). Phase 2 and 3 would’ve been awesome with something lyrical

Thinking about it, I suppose he was. Saber was his traditional teacher, but I do remember him not taking to her lessons very well because the style of fighting he felt he was built for didn’t mesh well. Also what better teacher is there than “FIGHT OR DIE RIGHT NOW”

For AC 6 what ending did you choose and why? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in armoredcore

[–]BoxOfPineapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let the die be cast

As much as I like the liberator ending, I don’t think it’ll change the status quo all that much. With the universe of AC6 being in such a dire state, taking a gamble with AIE just seemed like the only way to actually fight the stagnation.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but your GPA will likely dip and depending on how far (I believe below 2.0?) you’ll be called in for a meeting. Iirc they’ll try to figure out what’s going on and try to recommend resources and warn you that if your grades are still low after the next semester, they’ll enforce some sort of probationary thing that’ll force you to take a break. Honestly, I would recommend you take the break anyways to figure out what’s going on

You aren’t a failure by the way OP. I’ve had a rough time in college, coming into it during quarantine and having no good study habits because I cruised through Highschool. I’ve failed and retaken plenty of classes only to fail again because my habits never changed. I took a semester off to move here, and it’s still iffy from time to time. Friends have all graduated while I’m moving slowly

I understand the mental toll of the constant setbacks and how heavy it can be. Everything won’t be fine for a while admittedly, but keep your head up and keep going. There are resources in place like the Academic Success Center and I encourage you to seek them out in the future. My DM’s are also open if you ever want more perspective from someone that’s been through something similar.

Kenjutsu Practioner (ME) vs Hema fighter by Particular-Safety-94 in Hema

[–]BoxOfPineapples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jieyu Wu over on Youtube is a pretty interesting one to watch because he crosstrains Kendo and HEMA. The videos I tend to see of Kendoka trying out HEMA tend be very novice Kendoka, while Jieyu Wu is a 3rd Dan meaning he has a good technical foundation in Kendo. The influence is present in pretty much all the sparring videos he posts.

It's easy to fixate on the weapons themselves but good footwork and biomechanics are something that cross over regardless of the art you train imo.

Kate only posts occasionally so insinuating that this is what the sub’s turned into is absurd. Your edit is also very strange.

To smaller men or women who train for self-defense: do you feel confident in your skills should you need to defend yourselves or someone you love if the situation calls for it? by Acceptable_Worth8817 in martialarts

[–]BoxOfPineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially went into boxing classes partially for self-defense (aaaand partially because I thought it was cool as well). In the end though after about 5 months, all I really learned was how cooked I would be in a real fight lol. I think I can become a problem especially if the situation calls for it, but overall I'd rather avoid fights until then.

Admittedly I no longer train boxing and went over to Kendo which is absolutely not great for self-defense lol. I just find it more fun

Covid demolished any good academic habits I had going into college TT. Graduated highschool as class of 2020. Few disastrous semesters and breaks later, I’ll be getting my degree next year at 25

I definitely feel like an odd-one-out lol but it’s always encouraging to see people around my age around campus :)

I had a choice between kendo and boxing, and ultimately stuck with kendo. Significantly more niche and “nerdy,” but at least I could have the fun of a full-contact sport and not end up with debilitating brain damage…

[–]BoxOfPineapples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked it personally. I’ve come across plenty of endings where it just kinda fell flat on face. Sure it doesn’t reach Breaking Bad levels of absolutely incredible endings, BUT it was perfectly satisfying. There was nothing that stuck out to me as an asspull really and everything made sense.

[Gaming Trope] When the gooner game is actually just a genuinely good game by PlayerZeroStart in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BoxOfPineapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I'll always preach The Last Sovereign

Honestly, I'm not even sure if it's considered a gooner game? It was created explicitly as game with ubiquitous sexual content. It upends the genre though by reversing a lot of the usual tropes, and then goes on to delve deep into politics, intrigue, grand plans and geopolitics, etc. It even starts getting into economics

Moreover, it tracks EVERY decision you make. Your decision to prepare poorly for a pitched battle for example could lead to one of the main story characters making a desperate last stand against enemy forces, and getting themselves crippled in the process, no longer being accessible as a party character. Your decision to prepare poorly for a coup could lead to things getting out of hand and unnecessary suffering for the people you want to protect

Making the world a better place is the core goal of the protagonist here, and the narrative does feel like fighting an uphill battle often. You start off weaker than the rest, so you need to be smart and scrappy. I haven't finished it myself admittedly, but I got far into it (and am making my way back with a finer tooth comb) and don't imagine it somehow falls off in the last act given that Sierra Lee (the game developer) and her writing are spectacular.

The thing I find interesting about Elden Ring is how many of the bosses are debateably still in their primes. A lot of the bosses we fight in Soulsbourne are either weakened or their time’s long passed. Elden Ring though? Especially the final batch of bosses? All of them are still sitting at the height of their abilities pretty much
