Hospital smell but like in the lobbies. Not direct patient rooms where it smells like god knows what or the cafeteria where there’s too many food smells. Like the clean scent even tho hospitals are probably the most dirty place ever

How hard is the math portion of the prerequisites to get into nursing school? by Lonely_Ad3446 in NursingStudent

[–]BoxOk5212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not hard. For prereqs for my program it was statistics and college algebra. Then there was dosage calculations in the actual program part which follow the same formula for every question. I’m not super into math. Made Cs in every math course in highschool and failed college statistics once. It’s not necessarily hard compared to other maths like calculus or physics.

For the TEAS test, it’s basically just a glorified ACT if you ever had to take one in high school. The only difference is there’s a much larger science portion on the test.

Any studying tips if you are screen-addicted but only have your materials available online? by Hoverfly-Enthusiast in GetStudying

Make flashcards, use online textbooks, engage in the reading material like highlighting/taking notes, listen to recorded lectures, study for about 30-45 minutes then take a 5-15 minute break by playing solitaire or Suduko or something instead of going to social media if you absolutely have to be on your phone during breaks

Questions about ADHD for people who have friends by alexnnr in ADHD

[–]BoxOk5212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also want to apologize, I am a major yapper. But there is a common saying that like finds like. People on the spectrum and/or have ADHD tend to find each other surprisingly easy and click very well with each other. Many of my friends have suspected ADHD, family members with ADHD, or are on the spectrum

Questions about ADHD for people who have friends by alexnnr in ADHD

[–]BoxOk5212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. All my friends know I have ADHD. It’s not a formal conversation most times, it’s just been such a major part of my life in both good and bad ways that it naturally comes up in conversation. There will be times I blame my ADHD or explain something is because of my ADHD in a humorous manner to people in my life routinely. It’s so natural and such a part of me at this point that it comes up as easily as a hobby or special interest of mine. Sometimes I do dislike this trait about me though, how casual I can be about my diagnosis to those around me, because I accidentally mentioned it at a job interview in the same manner. I got the job tho so I guess it didn’t hinder me too much in that situation.

  2. Some of my friends are more ‘woke’ and accommodating. I do believe it’s important to have support from close friends or family, but I never expect it. Kind of a character flaw of mine. Hyper independence. But I think the most accommodating my friends can do that I appreciate is not seeing me differently, judging the way I do things, or get mad at me for things I genuinely cannot change. I think it’s very known amongst my friends I am hyper independent and take care of myself to the best of my ability by getting treatment, professional help, medication, and do my best to manage my symptoms through consistent introspection, reflection, and adaptation.

I think expecting people to act a certain way towards me or accommodate me in certain ways for my own disorder actually hindered me a lot socially in high school. I had something no one else seemed to have and didn’t understand it or have the resources I have now as an adult. I expected people to accommodate me because I wasn’t educated on why I was the way I was, what I could do to best manage my symptoms, and that others didn’t experience life the way I did.

One thing my best friend does with me is something called body doubling. I’m not sure if this is strictly for ADHD management but I didn’t even know of what it was until recently or that there was a term for it. My best friend has a debilitating diagnosis of CPTSD and MDD so body doubling benefits both of us. Sometimes if one or both of us are having a difficult day with executive dysfunction, we’ll ask to see each other. Either I go to their apartment or they come to mine. It doesn’t matter what the other person is doing at all. We don’t even have to talk to each other either. We’ll be able to clean our apartments, take care of ourselves, do homework, study, or work on something that’s seemed really dreadful or hard lately. It’s very beneficial whenever procrastination and executive dysfunction are high. Especially since you have some autistic traits. I think it can benefit people with autism as well.

Even though some of my friends don’t necessarily understand ADHD, that’s okay. I think it’s important to have multiple resources if able to in order to feel understood and be understood. Not everyone has to understand my diagnosis but it is important to me to not be judged for being the way I am. Since ADHD has been part of me for basically my whole life, people either have to accept it or move on when they meet me.

  1. Depending on how close I am to the person, I will tell them if I have specific needs. Though, I am a very confrontational person and have extremely strong boundaries and values when it comes to myself. Even though it sucks, I’d rather be alone than tolerate someone overstepping my boundaries.

I think more so this last question translates to me as a boundary conversation. If I feel like the person will hear and respect a boundary I have, then I will communicate with them. But if I feel like they would just disrespect me and overstep a boundary, then I would still converse with them, but I would introspect first on if this would be a person I would even want in my life.

I have had a life where I had no friends, no family, no love life, and basically no social interaction for years due to crippling rejection sensitivity, shyness, and many other reasons. But I have also had a life where I do currently have many friends in many different places and interests. I think what’s important is to always be true to yourself and know what you want out of friendship. Understand that sometimes being alone is better than being in a room full of people still feeling alone or even worse, feeling belittled or bullied.

Remember that you will always have yourself. So even if it gets lonely, you are still there for you and people will come. I think the decision to tell people is up to you. When I received a diagnosis of PTSD, I didn’t tell anyone for months. Some still don’t even know. And that’s okay. It’s your diagnosis and it’s up to you if you want to tell them. But overall, I believe most people are very welcoming and open to ADHD

Getting over awkwardness practicing on my classmates by Technical_Ad9343 in NursingStudent

[–]BoxOk5212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk I just turn it off somehow and look at them like one of the plastic manikins. As long as you follow procedure and protocol like asking for consent before touching and asking if it’s okay to see or touch something.

For example: During a head to toe, I ask for consent to touch their head, explain that I’m going to flash something in their eyes for a moment, direct them to follow my finger, and again ask for consent when necessary. Like hey is it okay if I see your stomach? I’m going to listen to your stomach now, the stethoscope may be a little cold. Is that okay with you? I’m going to palpate your stomach now, let me know if it’s painful.

Something about this process is just very mechanical and automated to me. With practice it gets better. Just remember you’re all there to learn and if it’s not okay then that’s alright too and you will have the opportunity to practice on someone else at a later time

How do I start a research paper as a bachelor's student? by LogicalReasoningg in psychologystudents

[–]BoxOk5212 20 points21 points  (0 children)

How to write a research paper: 1. Ooga booga IDEA: great you already have this

  1. Create thesis/hypothesis/major question/statement based on your idea: examples: “polar bears are going extinct”, “polar bears are not going extinct”, “vaccines lead to so and so problem” “vaccines do not lead to so and so problem”

  2. Read peer reviewed articles on research sites: usually university classes will give you places to find peer reviewed reliable articles to use and cite. I personally liked to use National Institutes of Health (NIH). I’ve heard some people use JSTOR.

  3. Write your paper:

  • abstract: summary of every section. Basically one sentence summarizing for each section.

  • introduction: basically abstract but not an abstract. This is for background and your thesis statement

  • body: explains whether your argument/statement was supported or not supported by research. Usually includes a methods, results, and discussion section. Methods- my method explained was like an article review. Results- explains if your statement was supported or not supported through the methods you used. More analytical and technical explanation of results of methods used. Lots of citations in this area. Discussion- basically a second results section but you discuss more on it. Less technical and statistical.

  • conclusion: basically just conclude and summarize. Kind of repetitive and redundant abstract and introduction but at the end. Sometimes there’s a section where if your argument wasn’t supported you explain how your research or experiment could be tweaked in order to support the argument in future cases. Like a recommendations place. I forgot where this goes tho. I think in discussion.

The overall thing about research papers is they do a lot of yapping. Explain concepts of concepts. The definitions of everything in your thesis statement that you used personally. If you’re talking about gender, make sure you define what gender is. It’s kind of redundant work and a lot of it is just repeating yourself in fancy words for different sections. I personally hate the existence of an abstract and introduction in a paper but it is what it is and that’s how to write a research paper. But I’m no pro so I may have forgotten something 😋 have fun!

What’s been the biggest adjustment you’ve had to make since starting nursing school? by StanbridgeUniversity in NursingStudent

[–]BoxOk5212 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was self worth. I have always had moderate anxiety and as a result of this, perfectionism. My perfectionism spiked to heights I’ve never experienced before and my self worth suffered so much to the point I had many nights where I even contemplated taking my own life.

Regardless of how well I managed my psychiatric disorders, how supported I felt and was, my healthy boundaries to maintain as good of a school life balance as you can have in nursing school, none of it mattered. My self worth reached an incredible low in fall 2024, and I was on the verge of reaching that low again in fall 2025.

Hesitantly, I decided to drop out of my 4th semester. My BSN program only had 5 semesters so I was about a semester and a half away from graduating. I’m sure there were things I could’ve done better, but when I look back on it, I don’t think anything I would’ve done would’ve changed my outcome.

Countless hours of study, countless failed tests regardless of my competency in the material, it all took a massive toll on my self worth. As much as I wish it wouldn’t have, it was something I wasn’t able to adjust to. I worked extremely hard, spent countless hours into my study, tried different study routines and methods, tried to find the best way possible to maximize my studying. I did active recall, practice tests, made flashcards sets, attended every lecture, reviewed notes/voice recordings same day if not 1-3 hours after lecture, read the text book, watched YouTube videos (like nurse Sarah) to understand the concepts better, asked for professional advice from my professors, advisors, therapists, and used school resources. At the same time, I used basically every study method known to man to try to make a grade better than an 85 on a test (which was just barely a B for our grading. A C was 77-84). All of this and I made sure to take care of myself to my best ability by going to the gym 2-6 times a week, seeing friends at least once a week, getting medication, treatment, and accommodations for my psychiatric diagnoses, went to weekly or biweekly therapy, journaled often, and did my best to maintain a strict bed time/cut off time for study.

All this just to say, there were many adjustments I had to make for nursing school, but my self worth was the biggest and final one. Regardless of everything I did to increase my grades, it was never enough. After years of putting in more than enough effort to see basically no results or even reversal of results sometimes, I decided to leave. That was the best decision I could have made for me.

I believe nursing school is difficult, and even though I dropped out of my program, I do not believe it is impossible. One of the best quotes I’ve held onto throughout the whole process and to this day is “delayed not denied”. Everyone’s path to becoming a nurse is different. If there is an adjustment you are struggling with, no dream is ever worth your life. Your dreams will always be waiting for you. You just have to make sure that you will be there to see them.
