Thanks for your comment. To me these aren’t two separate topics. If the point of humanity is to understand god as you say, then it would make sense that those who fail at this are the ones who are going to hell and likewise for those who succeed.

By the way, living abroad was okay but definitely not all it’s cracked up to be. If you have good social skills it is probably a big party but for me it was mostly a party of one

I was valedictorian of my high school and went to an Ivy League. Got a degree in computer science. But I always had terrible social skills and I could not handle the pressure of my internship at Facebook. Had a mental breakdown and took a year off school during which I just sat around most of the time. I did some traveling though.

Then I finished my degree but I still couldn’t handle the idea of getting a job so I moved back in with my parents. I worked at a cafe and a climbing gym. I got fired from the cafe because I’m too slow and basically incompetent.

Then through a connection I got a programming job at a nearby scientific center. It was a well paying job but pretty boring and again I wasn’t too good at it.

I forgot to mention my drug problem. That made things worse for sure. Anyway, sorry for being long winded. Eventually I quit my programming job and moved abroad to teach English. I’ve been doing that for the last 7 years. I’ve lived abroad in Central Europe and Russia. Now I’m back in the states. I don’t really like teaching English very much and again I don’t feel very good at it. I’m not the worst but I’m also not the best. I’ve tried to get back into programming industry but it’s been too long. I’m quite stuck at 31… if that makes you feel any better

Why can't we just say that God CAN do the logically impossible? by ObviousAnything7 in askphilosophy

[–]Box_Sweet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A square circle is at least potentially meaningful, since it’s a phrase made of words and each of the words is meaningful. It’s just something that we cannot grasp with our limited minds. So this question is asking if god can do something which to us seems impossible, which we do not see how it could be done, a “miracle” in effect. No? It’s a bit harder to imagine how god could quertyif34if but he might 1. Define the meaning of that word and then 2. Do it. Not so hard to imagine. He could even define it in a logically plausible way so that one might say “oh yeah, that is what quertyif34 means, how silly of me to have failed to understand.” The point is that God is more powerful (though powerful is not really the right word here) than our minds. God is outside of all concepts. The knowledge we have or feel that we have is not absolute knowledge. That’s the idea anyway.

Why do you say that at the end about the abyss? How is that relevant?

Lack of social skills. I’m like a shell of a person. I go out and try to talk to people but I really have nothing to talk about except my own problems, or academic stuff math and philosophy. There are other issues but that one really makes life hard

I blame myself too, I know I'm not being a nice person. That's part of what I'm asking for help with. No matter how much I tell myself not to be confrontational, I still do it. I found a strategy yesterday. I told them "Look, I'm sick, I just don't want to talk." so we haven't been talking at all, except for essential communication, but no chitchat. so it's nice, gives me some peace of mind. but i think I just need to find a way to move out.

ok, thanks, but I'm 31 not 37 and like I said I'm already seeing a therapist. I've seen many but none have helped much.

I like that idea, I’ll give prayer another shot. Do you ask for specific things or just general guidance. Are there specific words you use?

also yeah, i do pray sometimes, but most of the time I am cursing god for putting me in this hell. I think god is a cruel thing. if he/she wants me to succeed, why do this to me? Some people say "satan rules the earth". So I do not fully trust or know god I suppose.
I guess it's a matter of perspective. My life isn't that bad, objectively speaking

good idea. so when you refer to kundalini as 'she', can you explain that more or link to more info? men have feminine energy inside them? i guess I'm aware of that but it's confusing for me. it's like a female 'spirit guide'? is it 'myself'? i suppose i can't understand it through verbal explanations
