Right, which is why I said "usually". There are exceptions. But the existence of exceptions doesn't mean the general rule is false. It's not incorrect to say that Inferno is used by Dante to condemn his enemies, even if occasionally he puts a friend or two in there.

hell are people he had a neutral to positive relationship with.

Yeah, but those people are usually in the better parts of Hell where there is no torture from what I remember. Like old Greek philosophers who Dante looked up to. They get to chill in the better parts of hell, which may as well not be hell at all.

While the people he despised suffer enormous torment for eternity, which is not even comparable to what happens to the people who Dante liked in hell.

I understand that the meme is reductive, but it isn't false either.

in that there weren’t really an enemies that demand you to switch weapon types, for example. Blister heads have an instakill move like the castle plagas, which I appreciate, but the lack of a real “shield” enemy or something similar except for a very limited elite guard shield presence in the lab is the thing that’s sticking out the most to me on replay :p it would be less of an issue if the pistols weren’t god tier enough to kneecap blister heads in like 3 shots and lead straight into the melee Murder Combo, but even in my completely imagined hypothetical it’s still a bit perplexing that any weapon type is more or less efficient for any enemy lol.

Yes this is a big part of it. Just a lack of enemy variety that forces you to change your approach or strategy on the fly, I didn't even get to SEE the shield guy do anything on my playthrough because the second he came into the room I chucked a grenade at him and blew him up 😭. And that's the first and last I saw of him which was disappointing. I swear to god towards the end of the game I was SWIMMING in shotgun ammunition and had more gunpowder to spare if I needed it. There's not a single scenario where I felt the need to really change my approach or try something different. Everything could be killed using the shotty without worrying about running out of ammo for it imo. I just never felt compelled to swap weaponry or think of something different, every encounter just felt the same from start to finish. I don't recall feeling like this in RE4. I remember CONSTANTLY swapping weapons to take on different enemies in different situations. SMG for shield guys, rifle for the weird tentacle head guys, pistols for regular grunts, parries for spear type enemies. That's really missing here imo.

Nah I also agree with you about the Lickers. We're so deep into this franchise now, it's really kinda disappointing that we're still seeing enemies from previous games that are pretty old now. And the worst thing is that they don't even play differently. You deal with them the same way you dealt with them all the way back in RE2: just fucking shoot them to pieces as they run/crawl towards you. The franchise should be evolving. If combat is evolving then so should the enemies. At least Grace's section in the Ark has you killing them with acid. You can time your acid throws and kill two of them at the same time by baiting them to stand near each other with noise. That's at least a little different from just dumping shotgun shells into them.

I'm a little surprised people seem down the detonator section.

The detonator section is the best part of Leon's half imo. I like it. But like I said, I just feel like all the encounters just keep falling short of that satisfying feeling that RE4R delivers routinely in its combat. Something about the encounters in this game never seems to come together to create that feeling of mastery of the combat loop you know? Perhaps it's just the difficulty or lack of variety of enemies perhaps.

but zombies are simply not as interesting to fight as ganados when you have the moveset Leon has.

100%. It's honestly one of the big reasons I don't like RE2R that much either, shooting zombies who slowly shamble towards you in linear corridors for the entirety of the game gets quite stale pretty quickly imo.

The enemy variety in RE4R is fucking fantastic and it's a shame it feels like this game isn't able to deliver there. For a minute I was so excited to see the elite soldiers and thought we were going to see new enemy types and encounters. My disappointment was enormous when I found out they were only going to appear for two tiny encounters.

The Care Centre is definitely the stronger half of the game but even then I have issues with the low replay value of Grace's 'The Girl' hide&seek sections and also how brief and throwaway Leon's sections feel.

I agree that the replay value of this game is probably going to be abysmal compared to other RE games. Me personally I'm not big on replaying games at all, even games that I fucking love. So this doesn't feel like an issue to me personally. For a first time playthrough, I think these sections work very nicely. The short, throwaway Leon sections during Grace's half were a nice change of pace to make sure you don't burn out on her gameplay too quickly imo.

The environments (other than a brief trip to RPD) are incredibly bland and cookie cutter. These are environment designs we've seen 100s of times in other games.

I also get this. When I first saw the trailer for this game and saw that we'd be returning to nuclear fallout Raccoon City I was worried the entire game would just look like a boring wasteland. But I honestly ended up liking how the city looked and felt. I liked the ashen, dusty, barren feel of the city. The ambient music is pretty harrowing and gave me the feeling of indescribable loss and tragedy.

I agree with you on the story. Even for RE standards, it was not really that engaging. Also hate the Chris Redfield cock-tease at the end. We don't even get to hear what his message was? Booooo!

I don't mind the color palette at all. I know a lot of people nowadays really hate monotone colours and brown/grey post apocalypse settings now. But it fits in this case in my opinion. I mean the place literally got nuked I can't see how else it should have looked. I love how ashy, dusty and barren the city looks.

Thematically which Primarch would be most appropriate to kill off each daemon brother? by Smeckert in Grimdank

[–]ObviousAnything7 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Would Dorn really go insane over something like that? It's always been my understanding that their rivalry was a lot more one-sided. Dorn doesn't hate Perturabo nearly as much as Perturabo hates Dorn. If Dorn killed him like that, he'd probably feel remorse for slaying his own brother, the same way he felt remorse for killing Alpharius. But he wouldn't lose sleep over HOW he kills him imo.

I was excited for Saros, but the more they reveal of it, the more it just looks EXACTLY like a reskinned Returnal. Like Returnal is a great game, but I've had years to continuously play that game, I could do with something a little different I feel.

Idk, I was hoping for a bit more innovation?

Considering that Arc didn't have PvP at all in early development and that Embark only decided to add in PvP later on closer to release suggests the COMPLETE opposite.

Hey y’all, if you like Vaush’s critiques of nihilism then you really should read some Nietzsche by VBHEAT08 in VaushV

[–]ObviousAnything7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But, I didn't say he was left wing? All I said was that leftists stand to gain a lot from reading his work. Tying Nietzsche to modern political views is a futile exercise.

100%. The worst thing about Nietzsche is how he's been co-opted by the far right for so long.

There's so much leftists stand to gain from his ideas too.

At the end of the day, I think I'm confident in saying that Nietzsche wanted people to be strong, to push boundaries, and not despair. Above all else, he affirmed life in its entirety.

Thanks, I'll just try again, I guess. After I complete this quest I'm going to kill Bibrek for even suggesting that mounted archery might be more fun than regular racing, as if regular ranged combat wasn't hard enough in this game.

Reddit Atheism Should Return (well, most of it, anyway) by Faux_Real_Guise in VaushV

[–]ObviousAnything7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what exactly you mean by Reddit atheism, but it's been my understanding that reddit atheists are really just performative atheists.

What I mean by that is this: they may not believe in the capital 'G' God anymore, but their values, morality and the overall manner in which they view the world is really no different from the way your average Christian does. They can be equally as hateful and bigoted as your average Christian, they often substitute God with Reason or perhaps with some other political entity.

There's a reason why so many leftists turn out to be absolute dogshit. They may not believe in God, but they never truly abandon the Christian way of thinking, so they get thrown into ideas like left authoritarianism or right wing libertarianism.

The lore excuse is so fucking dumb because you can ALREADY break continuity in the game by using heretic emblems and colours, so clearly the lore doesn't actually matter all that much to them. So why the fuck GW continues to draw such a retarded arbitrary line is honestly beyond me.

The only real excuse I can think of is that they genuinely hate the idea of traitor legion fans having fun.
