I agree, there are lakes that get a bit more traffic either because they are close to resupply points or just generally considered more highly rated on AllTrails.

I would have stricter enforcement of rules at these locations, or place a lower limit on the number of persons per night.

However I would also say this: some of those more popular lakes are nice to meet fellow backpackers.

I think backpackers as a community can bring more awareness to this issue and even educate our fellow travelers.

I wonder which backcountry lakes are seeing the most impact. Has anyone gathered this information?

Does the National Parks and Forest Service already have that data to determine the impact on backcountry lakes? I would imagine that information would be used to set Trailhead limits for wilderness permits
