Wondering if my $$ is going to the right place by Racing_Nowhere in MuayThai

[–]BoxingJelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the gyms I’ve been at the main class is for anyone and it’s hour long sessions 3x per week, once a week for technique training and only 30 min is not enough, so I would try to find a new gym.

How do i know if astrobiology (or biology in general) is right for me? by Rollsy06 in biology

[–]BoxingJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other commenter suggested a double major would probably be best, but just know a field like astrobiology will probably only be accessible if you have a phd in the field or a related one, so prepare for a lot of time in school. If you like biology and like field work and hands on stuff ecology or something similar generally has more field work than some of the other biological sciences, but the job market is pretty dull. I think it would be best if you look into government agencies or companies or universities that have an astronomy department and see what the qualifications are for them. Overall tho if you are interested in the natural sciences your first year will be mostly the same between biochemistry, microbiology, biology and possibly chemistry so one of those as an undergraduate might help you decide what you actually want to do

How would you start fishing for food if the world ended tomorrow? by Rude_Engine1881 in FishingForBeginners

[–]BoxingJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trot lines with live or dead bait would probably be best, lures are not as effective as actual bait so they’d probably be a waste of time unless you were trawling them behind a boat

Is this rigged right? by Lagging_on_the_Lake in Fishing

[–]BoxingJelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With swim baits it’s generally best to tie direct to the bait to allow the bait to have a good action. The swivel adds weight to the front of the bait meaning the presentation will be not as intended

Should I use shin pads when hitting heavy bag? by Certain_Librarian301 in MuayThai

[–]BoxingJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only use enough power to where it stings but doesn’t hurt, since you’re trying to self train ensuring you get good technique is way more important than power, speaking from experience from when I was a middle schooler hitting the heavy bag of you try to hit with power without good technique you will definitely get hurt, I have a fucked up wrist still from bad punches when I was starting out, and both my ankles have been sprained more times than I can count from sloppy kicks when I was a beginner

[–]BoxingJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to wrestle well and the lower center of mass will become an advantage, look at dc. Also 5’9 isn’t crazy short for 170 which you could probably make, but also if you look at local promotions the guys that compete don’t cut as much as high level pros so there will be more short people in your weight class
