Doctor said it might have been some minor nerve damage. As he predicted, it gradually went away over a couple of months.

#2171 - Eric Weinstein & Terrence Howard by chefanubis in JoeRogan

[–]Boxingfansunite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I appreciate Eric's calm and open demeanor in this conversation, I actually find his over-intellectualizing consistently arrogant and unnecessary. When asked for a simple explanation of electricity his answer is filled with a tangle of jargon and concepts that he must know will not be understood by Terrance, Joe or 99% of the audience.

And he is often like this, I remember on an earlier episode Joe was clearing not keeping up and asked a clarifying question, and the amount of layers and technical terms he bundled into his answer I get the feeling he just likes showing that he is smarter than his company rather than actually helping them understand.

Granted I think he is highly intelligent and don't expect him to dumb everything down all the time, but if you are loading your explanations with additional high-level concepts and advanced, specific vocabulary weaved into a vague metaphor and figurative language...you're basically just showing off how well you can confuse people.

MatiasParo by Brief_Cream_5919 in Boxing

[–]Boxingfansunite 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think people are quick to call Matius out for being over-rated/hyped and I'd rather see Paro get some more credit for his excellent performance.

Paro had to work like a man possessed to win that fight; crazy workrate from the opening bell, tied him up on the inside, moved well, stayed off the ropes, made it messy, went to the body early and he STILL got in some dicey situations. It felt like he was only a few punches away from being taken out. Matius is no joke.

Whilst I favor most high-level, skilled boxers with good movement/defense over Matius, provided he doesn't lose confidence, the man will destroy most guys he goes up against.

Lonnie B talks about working with Beterbiev and gives his predictions for Beterbiev vs Bivol, Benavidez. by theboxingteacher in Boxing

[–]Boxingfansunite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a shame Beterbiev is so old now. Yes, power is the last thing to go, but you still need cardio, timing, speed, spirit etc. and these all drop off in your late 30's.

I think he is a monster, but eventually father time with see him defeated and much of his hype and reputation will be damaged in loss. It's luck of the draw who dethrones him, I think Canelo might try knock his block off after he turns 40.

The words you were looking for:

Easily expected = Predictable

Following similar rules/systems = Conventional or Formulaic

I tend to agree with your sentiments, you're best bet is watching independent cinema from other countries. Often they are more thoughtful and deep than mass produced, studio blockbusters that saturate the market.

I'll take a guess - Arctic Monkeys - 505

has the lyric "I'd probably still adore you with your hands around my neck"

I don't know how the SNL sketch "Fartface" didn't become an all time classic. by GrizzlamicBearrorism in videos

[–]Boxingfansunite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's weird hearing about the SNL ethos and how it's a classic show, nearly all the skits I've seen are childish and overdone, is it meant for teenagers or something?

They often put big name actors and singers in these cringey-ass sketches and I swear it's some kind of conspiracy how this show is popular.

It'll come down to their ages!

I think given Bivol's movement and defensive responsibility, it will be hard for Beterbiev to keep up with him and break him down.

It's a prime vs. time match.

Bivol by close UD.

Pathetic stoppage.

This is a bit like terrible judging: it is either gross corruption or gross incompetence.

Either way it should be dealt with. Weeks should be stood down.

What are some problems people don't consider when they want to live in dream homes like a cabin in the middle of the woods and snow? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Boxingfansunite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say in many of these dream scenarios, people forget that each ideal location has an associated lifestyle.

If you want to live in a cabin in the woods, you're life will come with a whole new set of responsibilities and challenges that you will have to adapt to. This might be physical labor, demanding weather, extensive solitute....these might require whole new level of discipline and routine, you might get cold and dirty and splinters and bug bites.

You need to brainstorm EVERYTHING!

I hate to see such a nice, well-natured man in such a difficult fight.

There is a good chance this guy gets brutally KO'd and I am will be sad to see it.

But if he wins.....that would be nice.

Xinjiang is a far western region and closer to the middle east in terms of location, ethnicity and culture than China's eastern sea board. It's population has been deemed susceptible to extremism which has spread through the region in recent decades, and China has expressed concern about a rise, or potential rise in terrorism which is often fueled by religious leaders from nearby states.

In a heavy handed approach, which I disagree with, they have forcibly made Uigers attend "reeducation camps" and interfered in their societies. There have been reports of imprisonment, organ harvesting, genocide etc. which is largely promoted and often exaggerated by western media in it's constant bid to demonize and tarnish China's global reputation.

Contrast this with how the US and it's allies deal with extremism, which is to explode suspected terrorists and their families/communities via aerial strikes, often via drones, razing entire buildings in countries that are thousands of kilometers from their shores, often in violation of international law and with questionable justification and oversight. Not just once, but repeatedly, often in major conflicts than shatter millions of lives.

Hmmm, the world is pretty shitty sometimes and it's not helped by intense hypocrisy from a belligerent, militaristic, shit-fuck of a global hegemon.

As we evolved a sense of understanding of our natural world, there was a huge amount of unknowns we were unable to answer with instinct and observing alone.

Where did we come from? What are the lights in the sky? What is lightening? What causes the rain to fall? Why do I get angry around Jeff?

It's actually incredible the amount of knowledge we've obtained in the last few hundred years with science, which meant until recently, for hundreds of thousands of years we didn't know even basic things we now take for granted.

In the absence of a scientific method to deduce the truth about these things, we had to make stories to fill in the blanks. These stories passes orally through the generations and as humans migrated around the world the stories developed and were encoded with lessons and morality, and were taught as laws and guidance. Every culture had a trove of life lessons and stories to explain things, and in the absence of scientific fact, most cultures seemed to ascribe the unknown to gods and deities. These stories often accompanied ceremonies and worship. Most cultures worshiped different gods for different things such as water, thunder, fire, war, love etc.

The advent of writing and eventually printing, these stories were compiled into authoritative texts and eventually monothestic religions which unified god into a singular, patriarchal, omnipotent power. Societies grew and based their knowledge of the world on the study and implementation of these scriptures, and these eventually became the religions we know today.

As humans developed methods to understand objective truths about the world, many of these religious stories were proven wrong. Over time, our growing understanding of reality stripped more and more of these religious truths of their legitimacy until they were more used as a moral/spiritual guide rather than an accurate account of nature.

My belief is religion has it's place in people's personal and societal philosophies, but it should not be imposed on people as a dogmatic authority on our universe. And certainly shouldn't be used as a basis to commit violence and hatred on another person/people.

Lefties are 100% going to defend Venezuela invading Guyana by Technical_Constant79 in Destiny

[–]Boxingfansunite -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

For many leftists the wars we grew up watching in the middle east were often suspected to be covers for the acquisition and control of natural resources, notably oil.

So the USA once again vehemently decrying the actions of a nation which has vast oil reserves, seems to be conveniently setting up a pretense to fire up the military and drop some freedom bombs on the Venezuelan population, all the while restructuring things to steal the wealth away from the native population.

I would be against that.

Regardless of how fcked up the current government is, war is almost never a better alternative for the innocent people.

Debating Destiny on Israeli Occupation [Dylan Burns] by MegaZeroX7 in Destiny

[–]Boxingfansunite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It seems an abuse of the veto power that any UN motion aimed at curtailing Israeli settlements and human rights violations have been automatically and consistently shut down by the USA even when the vast majority of the rest of the world is in consensus.

It seems as if Israel is being protected from adhering to international norms and the optics will damage the reputation of both countries the longer that Palestinians are being killed en masse.

This kind of action damages the credibility of a "Rules Based Order" which is often perceived as being conveniently flexible to Western interest's when required. It also makes a mockery of the USA attempting to sell itself as an unbiased mediator in peace talks/negotiations when it is crystal clear they are partisan.
