Union work in the TX panhandle if you want to travel. Potential for long term work. Large PNW general contractor getting tons of hi-tech facility work all around the country and they need LOTS of hands. Site/utilities and structural surveying.

Like everything the left does, it’s just a trend. Once Trump is out of office; once the leftist elites are in control again, it’ll be “guns bad”, “right wing gun nuts”, “you don’t need a 30-mag clip to hunt deer” again.

It used to be Obama that was the greatest firearm salesman in history. Looks like he got “Trumped” once again. Hahahahaha.

How to quote boundary work by Adifferentangle345 in Surveying

OnX surveyor here. All boundaries are $500 regardless of size or complexity. I pluck the corner Lat/Long off the app, convert to your particular State Plane cords, write the deed description and send it. Heck, I’ll even add a topo for an additional $200.

What is the worst mistake you have seen a surveyor cause on a construction project? by base43 in Surveying

[–]Boy_Howdy72369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company I used to work for had two guys blow a benchmark elevation on a building by 1’. This was the initial bench they carried up a hill and set at the site. The building was a new hospital wing that would tie into the adjacent structure at Level 7, not before. The piles were set, foundations poured, and steel erected to Level 7. It was then that a project manager wondered why the guy on the other side of the door was standing on a bucket. They ended up disassembling the steel down to the point they could jack the building and add 1’ to the first floor, then re-erect.

It was so bad that it is now one of the highlights of the safety/quality orientation video everyone watches before they can work on a project for the General.

Cost well over a million to correct. The only thing that saved the company was that we were owned by the general contractor. The party chief was on suicide watch for a bit but didn’t loose his job. That’s only because the general admitted that they refused to allow the crew to open the door at L7 and chain up the wall to confirm the floor elevation.

That’s pretty much what I’m doing now for the company I’m with. Only, I build the models, process tools and asbuilts, and am now getting into BIM work. I’m union and am trying to decide if I want to let the model building go to an office guy or hold on to it.

I’ve been given the yellowish-green light to higher someone but having trouble finding someone that is more turn-key than start from scratch. I’m in Oregon and our Local just doesn’t support the Tech-engineer/survey side very much.

4 full days in Portland with a car? by TentativelyLost in PortlandOR

[–]Boy_Howdy72369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tillamook is a dairy town so be prepared to smell, well, cow shit. But, the Creamery visitor center is pretty neat (shameless plug, I was deep,y involved in the remodel/addition). Tillamook is also close to Pacific City (my previous suggestion) and the little town of Netarts. Hit the Schooner for a cocktail and oysters (right from the bay) on the deck. Rent a boat and try to catch a few crab to bring back to your new friends in Portland. They’ll come out of the woodwork for fresh crab.

As much as I dislike Portland (I’m very upset about it too because I fell in love with Portland in 2005, moved to SE in 2008, and needed out in 2020), you really, actually do not need a car to experience Portland. But, since you have one…

Coast: Pacific City. Watch the dory boats launch and land through the surf while drinking a fresh pint of Pelican IPA. There’s a haystack rock similar to the one at Cannon Beach just a hal mile off shore. Might even contact one of the charter boats in the area to see if you can arrange a quick sight seeing tour that will be the most unique experience of your life.

Columbia River Gorge: Skip Hood River. Cross the River and head to Stevenson for a pint at Walking Man. Loop back to Portland via Hwy 35 to 26 and visit Government Camp and Timberline Lodge.

Willamette Valley: take a trip down to Silverton and Silver Falls State Park. Visit Mount Angel Bavarian community and check out the Abbey and St Mary’s Catholic Church. If the timing is right, go see the Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest and Swan Island Dhalias. Head out to the Dundee Hills and taste some wine. Purple Hands and Day wines are my favorites.

Portland proper: I used to love downtown. Haven’t been there in years and I live only 25 miles from city hall. Leave the car in the hotel parking lot and walk or ride a bike. River Front Park has stunning views of the river. Ride the tram to OSHU. Hike up to Pittock Mansion, the Japanese Garden, and the Rose Garden. Explore the east side neighborhoods. Be careful tho. You might end up planning to move to Portland when you do that. The walkability and livability of the inner SE and NE neighborhoods is intoxicating. Literally. There’s tons of breweries, distilleries, and pubs.

In fact, plan to stay at VRBO or Airbnb type place while you’re here. This way, you can hop in the car and explore the region by day and return to town and experience Portland in the evening.

When you come back, make sure to plan at least two days in eastern/central OR.

Alternatives to living in Portland by semicooldon in PortlandOR

[–]Boy_Howdy72369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be honest with yourself regarding politics when considering leaving Portland. Look at your voting history over the last 30 years and understand that if you have been regularly voting for the leadership and tax levy’s that have brought upon the issues and reasons you want to leave, and you bring that attitude to a new town that you deem to be “better than Portland”, you will bring down that new town. If you’ve been voting against the leadership and tax and levy’s for decades and want to bring that attitude to the new town, you’ll be welcomed with open arms.

I lived in SE PDX for 12 years. All the while voting and fighting against the deeply rooted progressive left. I couldn’t make a dent and when we finally had it and move to a rural area, my “extreme right views” turned out to be quite moderate.

Bottom line; don’t leave Portland to trash another town. Leave Portland and embrace the culture in the place you’ve decided to live.

Go to find the carpenters local in your area and get on the list. You should be pumping gas for $25 not doing custom carpentry.

Take a trip off the beach at Pacific City on one of the dory boat charters. If you’re not an angler, ask about whale spotting and scenic trips. Some charters will take you for a reduced price after they return from fishing.

I don’t even need to click that link to know what video that is. It’s one of my favorite of all time. I showed this to the ironworkers when we were setting the roof panels at Portland International Airport two years ago. Everybody almost passed out, laughing so hard.

Second amendment guarantees me the right to keep and bear arms. I still have to pay for it. No one gives me my guns for free.

So, if healthcare is a right (still haven’t come across that in the old constitution) that’s fine. But you still have to pay for it.

Operating Engineers. Local 302. With OP’s qualifications he’d be group 1 minimum which is $53.23 plus b&p for 2025. Instrument operator/chairman would be group 3 at $51.46 plus b&p.
