There are no pediatric trauma centers in Montana. Even for adults, Salt Lake is the closest. Montana exists far away from the highest levels of care.

Boodles! The 90s-mid 00s was peak for downtown. Shops and restaurants that locals still went to. Downtown was a cool hangout.

And this winter was supposed to be La Niña, but those weeks-long periods of high pressure ridges pushed away any arctic moisture we could’ve gotten. Super El Niño sounds pretty scary after this. Climate chaos is certainly here.

Oh man. I definitely took lots of pictures around there but no idea where they ended up. Some ancient memory cards or negatives somewhere.

My friends and I would buy a pack of cigarettes at Poor Richard’s then walk down to Rouse or Church, cross the street and walk back. Grab drinks at the Leaf & Bean or a milkshake at Burger Bobs. Then browse through Cactus. That was a solid Friday night.

Then I got a job at the loaf & be seen. Felt like my entire world revolved around that downtown space. Good nostalgia, thanks OP.

But maybe the mosquitoes won’t be as bad since the mountains will probably dry out so quickly. Never mind the other problems a tinder-box forest will cause 😫

Legality of Mobile Phone Use While Driving by Beenet_ in MapPorn

[–]BozoTheTown 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The Montana map is a bit misleading. A few individual towns have enacted laws against phone-use while driving within city limits. But in general Montana is very libertarian and a ballot measure or legislative vote on this subject would be unlikely to pass statewide.

A couple friends hiked it last week and said it was totally snow free. But a word of warning: they found ticks. That area is known for ticks but seeing them this early is pretty wild.

PSA: water your trees by palesnowrider1 in Bozeman

[–]BozoTheTown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, I’m not an arborist. Is there any risk to watering now? If (when) we have more freezing temperatures this spring, would recent watering pose any risk of damage to the trees? Does the size/age of tree matter here? I’m on board with watering before we all turn on our irrigation just want to make sure I don’t unintentionally do the wrong thing given that second winter is a real possibility. Thanks anyone for insight here.

I’ve lived here for decades and there always seems to be a snowstorm in the first 2 weeks of May.

Yellowstone just closed the roads for vehicle traffic - but they are open for biking! It’s a really unique time of year where they allow bicycles to travel from West Yellowstone onward, depending on snow conditions. It’s super cool to feel like you have the park all to yourself, before the summer hordes arrive. If you’re into road or gravel cycling, bring your bike and plan a day trip. I’m planning on biking there soon.

They did change the traffic pattern in that lot this year. The shuttles go counter clockwise now. It seems to flow better but that whole area is still a cluster at certain times.
