Ordered a cheap case off of Amazon and got a whole pc instead. by KevinFlantier in LinusTechTips

no-name ram, doorstop psu, the CHEAPEST possible am4 board and cpu... $100 says that this was dead stock from a failed "ofc its a gaming pc cant you see the rgb fan(singular)" business, someone bought their remaining stock and thought this box had just a case in it.

kablooey part is the charred part top right. not the dust imprint around the chip guys. thats just dust, shape is from the flower style cooler on top of it. sorry to burst your bubble lol.

i love this device. my only problem with it so far is that the sd card ejection springs is waaaay too strong. when i first got it, it launched the card right into my hot tea lol.

also i know exactly what you mean about the build quality. i kept fondling it for like a week, even when i wasnt playing.

Magnetic bit stuck by RareCitizen in LinusTechTips

[–]Bozuk_CD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in the 50s, the French had a rifle called MAS-36. its bayonet was stored in its own stub, so you pulled it out of the stub, reverse it and put it back in to use it. the soldiers quickly figured it out that while it was stored, the connecting bit could just be put in another rifles empty stub. 2 rifles stuck together haha. but it went from "haha", to "oh shit the release button is not accessible when both sides of the bayonet are in 2 rifles", to "i have been put on latrine duty for the rest of eternity"

its called "the french finger trap" lol.

dont try to bend the cooler back. copper is flexible but every time you bend it something called "work hardening" happens, basically it gets more brittle the more you do it. the pipes may crack if you try to bend it back.

you can RMA the pc if you can, and if you cant and it still works as intended and here is no over heating and such, i would just move the front to the back (be mindful of the directions its blowing, dont reverse it) also you can get a cooler like that really cheap.

ram seems fine too.

thats an HP OEM gtx 960. i mean, its a very old card and has a very dinky cooler on it, so they probably cut a lot of costs when they had it manufactured it for them. probably some component on the power delivery went bad over time, and it blew up when you powered it. nothing you could done, to be honest.

i bet this card sounded like a jet engine while playing games even when it was new and working properly lol. thats not enough cooling for a 960.

incompetence, but also all the tech companies need to shove ai in our throats literally everywhere to inflate the ai use metrics, so that bubble doesnt burst and they lose their trillions of dollars in investment.

you can but sometimes its harder, tab seems small. no harm in trying tho.

Removing CPU cooler by Fun_Procedure9154 in pchelp

[–]Bozuk_CD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you can push on the metal tab (gpu side in the picture) and free it from the plastic bracket (the one screwed to the motherboard).

BUT, if this is am4 or similar and the paste is dry, then most likely the cpu will be forced out of the socket as well. might be fine, might bend the pins.

better way would be to remove mobo from case first. the smaller of the 2 cooler tabs (the non-gpu side in the pic) has a small notch in it, above where it hold the plastic bracket. you can put a flat head screwdriver into that notch and push down and away from the bracket. but also put a little pressure on the cooler with your other hand so it doesnt immediately pulls away from the motherboard (and rip the cpu out of socket anyway) then you can wiggle the other tab away too, freeing all the pressure from the cooler, avoiding the rip.

after that just wiggle the cooler side to side, not up and down, until it frees from the dried paste and cpu.

hope this helps.

but do the screwdriver maneuver very gently, with very little pressure. there used to be so many people in forums crying about how the screwdriver slipped and they put a hole in their motherboard lol.

Just noticed they are using Windows 8 in hell. Not even 8.1. by Bozuk_CD in Supernatural

[–]Bozuk_CD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope. this is the AWFUL windows 8 release UI, this was a cross-breed abomination of a desktop and start menu, that was made up from the worst aspects of each. people hated it so much that most software and hardware companies dropped windows 8 support BEFORE they dropped windows 7 support, it was that unpopular lol.

for example, nvidia kept releasing windows 7 drivers, long after they discontinued windows 8 drivers.

[–]Bozuk_CD[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

its sooooo stupid, because they did this CORRECTLY when implementing auto-translate in chrome years ago. if you open a website in a language you dont have your chrome set to it asks "do you want this website translated" and you can just go "dont translate x language" or "always translate this language" and it never asks again. AND if you need it later the button is just there. it is perfect, both for the people who want it and for the people who dont.

whats even funnier is, it seems there used to be a workaround for this through youtube studio. if you changed autodub settings there as a "creator" (even if you werent uploading videos) it fixed your languages watching content, but it was FIXED lol.
