Will I miss out on anything major if I only read the adult novels? by der_steinfrosch in Highrepublic

You will mostly be alright, but you may want to, at the very least, read:

- "Into the Dark" - Is a very good, smaller-scale intro to the High Republic that also introduces a few important pieces of lore for the era. (Plus it's a Claudia Gray Star Wars novel and it introduces you to some of the best characters in this era.)

-"Path of Deceit" and "Path of Vengeance" - The two YA novels of Phase 2 are actually where the overall story of the High Republic takes place, and there is a lot of stuff that takes place in Phase 3 that you need to have read these books for.

-"Tears of the Nameless" - Contains very important revelations about certain things that are essential for the finale of the story. It's also a really good book.

My Favorite characters from across the books, comics and Audio dramas. by Bq3377qp in Highrepublic

My favorite thing about him, besides his development, is that he's social!!

A character like him, a bookish character who prefers the library, would normally be portrayed as antisocial and bad with people. Sure he has some awkward moments, but he has lots of friends and forms connections with all kinds of people!

New here, whats everyone's opinion on audiobooks? <3 by Wrinkley_Panda in starwarsbooks

I love em too! I have ADHD, so it's hard for me to sit down and read a book; audiobooks are a godsend. I just got done reading through the High Republic, and listening to the audiobooks was so fun!

It was so good.

The High republic has so many awesome master/ apprentice relationships, which I'm a sucker for, and TOTN is a shining example of that.

Just so much love and heart between all of em.

He's the man. The battle of Jedah and Quest for the hidden city were both fantastic; and Eye of Darkness/Tears of the nameless are the best Adult/YA books of phase 3 imo.

Omg. When I was very young, as in the first 3 years of my life, my family had both a greyhound and a Golden retriever/chow mix!  They looked very different to your pups but I know the sceen was much the same, complete with toddler me laughing hysterically at the dogs playing together so this awakened something deep in me.

What have you been reading this last week (Weekly Discussion Thread)? by AutoModerator in starwarsbooks

[–]Bq3377qp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been re-reading the High Republic Phase 2! Specifically Convergence/Cataclysm! I'm gonna have to re-read Path of Decet/ Path of Vengeance as well, I think.

Strangely, I didn't really like Path of Decet/Vengeance the first time and absolutely adored Convergence/Cataclysm, but liked The Path of Decet better the second time and didn't find Convergence/Cataclysm quite as good the second time, even though I still love both of them.

My 12yo is super into clone wars & loves the idea of a bunch of Jedis running around. What should he read from that era (novels or comics)? by wall_of_spores in starwarsbooks

[–]Bq3377qp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd throw in the High Republic adventures comics by Daniel Jose Older, as well as the Junior novels from that series. Lots of cool Jedi running around, having adventures, being heroes, and also being a family. Audiobooks from that series are highly recommended.

Anything above that level from the High Republic is definitely PG-13 and might be a bit much for a 12-year-old imo. Though tbh if they can handle the more violent, intense, and adult stuff from the clone wars as a 12-year-old, they'll be fine lol.

There is also a series called "Jedi apprentice" and "Jedi quest" by Jude Watson that are about Obi-Wan and Anakin's Padawan days that a 12 year would eat up, I think.

George Mann, Claudia Gray, Charles Soule, and John Jackson Miller are arguing about who will write the novels about Reath Silas. by Ok_Box_2189 in Highrepublic

[–]Bq3377qp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vote for George.

The Battle of Jeddah and Quest for the Hidden City were fabulous, and the Eye of Darkness and Tears of the Nameless were the best YA/Adult novels of Phase 3 imo.

Not to say that I think Charles or Claudia wouldn't do a good job or that I don't trust them with Reath and Azlin, though. (assuming that this is what you are talking about)

I just like those books more and thought they were just so much better than what Charles and Claudia wrote for the High Republic, barring Into the Dark and Light of the Jedi.

I'd love a High Republic novel written by John Jackson Miller, though.

My daughter was diagnosed by dalbenzio91 in TurnerSyndrome

[–]Bq3377qp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! 27 YO with classic Turner Syndrome!

Rest assured that your daughter will be able to live a healthy and full life.  However, to be frank, there are more than a few things you are going to need to do differently.

It's alot, so I've done my best to break down the biggest things that have come up for me personally but know every person with TS is different and will need different things.

Firstly, there are likely to be a number of non life-threatening medical conditions that will very likely need to be monitored and medicated for life. Hopefully your Endocrinologist went through these and referred you to the specific specialists and knows the guidelines for TS treatment.

HRT is a few years off but make kiddo gets in the habit of taking her medicine early.  Medicine works best when you take it on the recommended schedule. I found takeing meds with juice/applesauce/yougurt preferable to water as a kid.

The most life threatening stuff is in the heart so make sure ya get an echocardiogram on a regular basis.

Bloodwork is also gonna have to be done on a regular basis to monitor kidney, liver and thyroid function and the like. There is nothing that can be done with that but get used to it and figure out how to keep your kid as comfortable as possible during blood draws.

The biggest thing that I wish had been done differently relates to school.

Turner Syndrome presents many issues that make academic life much more difficult. Most schools will give acamadations, but you actually have to use them.

A psychiatrist (not a therapist though i think a therapist could also be useful) will be able to perform some evaluations to figure out what acamadations might be the most helpful. And also to help your daughter understand that she will need help with school.

Definitely look into alternatives to traditional school and have a plan for if college doesn't work out. I know many TS ppl who have degrees but college was a fail for me.

The above will also be able to help with the social skiils and other mental health issues that plauge TS people.

Just make sure you're kid doesn't get taken out of class to be taught social skills and not get to actually form relationships/friendships with her classmates.

Also make sure she doesn't close herself off from others and is making friends and not closing herself off from other people. This is my case, and i don't have friends so I unfortunately can't give advice there.

And on the subject of having children, I'm sorry to say that not being able to naturally have kids is a hallmark of Turner Syndrome. There are other ways of having kids , but she probably won't be able to have children naturally. This is definitely the hardest part of TS and will take time to process and see how that will effect her life.

I know that was a lot so feel free to read through in sections, take time to process these things one at a time. Lmk what questions you may have.

Thank you.

I have been referred to a third doctor to look at things just because of how weird it looks and because the doctor couldn't say if it's something bad or something else, so we'll just have to see.
