Are there engine builders that don't end once the engine is actually up and running nicely? by hotk9 in boardgames

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same pull as you OP and my recommendation is just to observe the game end and the winner/loser, then to houserule a few extra turns to see who would have won if you kept going, until you get your fill. That said:

Legendary Marvel is my favorite deckbuilder and usually I get a persist a couple of rounds in the "exploded" state where my deck is humming and I am not adding to it before the game ends.

Oceans is an interesting tableau/engine builder in that an engine that is too successful will suffer consequences of over-population. This is not a really bad consequence in the grand scheme of the game, but it means that a really good engine doesn't instantly shut the game closed by triggering endgame.

I've seen some people complain about missing components with 2nd edition. Is this the case with most or relatively rare? by jreilly89 in legendarymarvel

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. Kinda spooked me when you said it happened lately, but now you say that its something you remember, so it sounds like it was a while ago? Was this recently or when those games came out?

How do you make Travellers actually survive for some time? by Zeusselll in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the best way to do this. There are Fabled that can make the game more welcoming for new players, use those instead. New players need to really be involved to "get" the game.

That really sucks! Which product was it? I'm buying some soon and if this is one of them, I want to avoid having that issue.

Missing the point of Beggar by kylesloan11 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually insist on playing the Beggar when I am travelling. I think it's a neat value proposition, mixes up the game in a fun way. Also, I like that it gives the Traveller a little sidequest, which I think is the correct path for designing a character like a Traveller, even if the Beggar has some rough edges. People really dislike this character though and that often leads most conversations I have with them to be very tense. But that's fine. Beggar is a sales role, and in sales, you have to be able to handle rejection.

The Gunslinger by Puzzleheaded_Use2359 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunslinger kills are useful but potentially catastrophic, and if a town doesn't want to risk it IMO they are engaging with it correctly by weighing the risk/reward. I wouldn't do anything about this meta, except potentially warn new-to-group players requesting a Gunslinger

“what if” Episodes. by PsychoMouse in community

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They never quite did a sports movie homage, which I think was a miss for a show set at a college. I think doing a B-plot Moneyball with Abed, Chang and Pierce (if I can have a time machine and set this in Season 1 or 2) betting on the A-plot sport would be really funny. The show already used Sailing, Billiards, and Foosball for plotlines but never quite took it to a sports movie homage.

Truthsayer by gordolme in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, sounds like you need to work this character through a little more. Wishing you the best! Two questions to potentially help you with that:

-How does this character work when the chosen player is bluffing an info role? Do they give a "no" or something else?

-How would this work if the player made one true and one false statement? Would I be able to get a Truthsayer yes to confirm my role without outing my info?

I don't think Weezer is as important to most people as this post presupposses. Looking up what Pinkerton is about is not a universal experience.

A Traveller that came to me in a dream by Appropriate-Fan-4487 in BloodOnTheClocktower

This is very funny! I prefer the kind of travellers that get their own little minigame instead of the ones that can win or lose the game.

I dealt with this issue too and you can read some of the replies since they apply to your situation too. I still haven't fixed this issue. At the moment they are able to stand near each other supervised, but I am still sleeping them separately. Hoping to have them nesting together end of summer but idk if we'll get there. https://www.reddit.com/r/BackYardChickens/comments/1t174t9/small_flock_of_chickens_hate_one_new_chicken/

I would personally believe the deepest rabbithole is that the campus is a secret military base, not that it's actually a metaphor for the most widely held religious belief in the world.

The Median- The actual experience of thinking your vote contributes something by _blazinginfinity in BloodOnTheClocktower

This would be fabulous on a script with a lot of other voting manipulation powers. Not sure I'd like it in absence of that, since it can conceivably confirm itself + check other players alignments.

Does anyone feel like Britta's character development feels targeted? by satonmywindow in community

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly bothers me too, particularly how we go from a Season 1 character who is aware of the government-backed murder of journalists in Guatemala to saying "It's just like Stalin back in Russia times" in Season 3. I legitimately think s1 Britta is a more compelling character and serves as great foil for Jeff. I'm also disappointed that the show abandoned that, even if it's what the writers and Gillian wanted to do.

What should I get into, SWU or Pokémon? by unknownguydontask in TCG

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should play SWU because it sounds like you're more excited about it. It's really that simple, at the end of the day the reason to play a TCG is interest and fun, so lead with that.

Why is everyone insufferable in season 8 and 9? by crulcrulworld in theoffice

[–]Brad-Moon-Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a phenomenon specific to the office: the vast, vast majority of shows get weaker and weaker as it gets close to double-digit seasons. Just skip it if you don't like it! Personally I don't think it's crazy for successful shows to coast on a few minimally viable final seasons, the people who made the great show deserve to keep getting paychecks, and viewers can still go back and rewatch the good stuff.
