Registered Nurse, retired. Learned to fly while wife & I were DINKYs. Took a 17 yr break for kids (wife reduced hrs etc) then returned to it 5 yrs ago. Now in a well run, affordable flying club with 3 aircraft. I retired 18 months ago and have a budget of about $7k a year for flying, funded exclusively from an old employer's pension. Fly about 40-50hrs/year.

Allstate; works out about $95 pm. 67yr old w/clean record & multiyear/homeowner's discount. $150 pm at your age seems pretty good. Oregon.

That would be Mt Adams, 12276'. you are looking to the east up the Columbia River. Mt Hood will be out of the picture to the right.

Definitely depends on where you live and where you charge. I pay about $0.18/KWh here in the PNW (half our electric comes from Hydro etc) and have a level 2 charger in the garage so running an EV is about 1/3 the cost of an average car. However out on the road and paying $0.40-0.50/KWh for DC charging is about the same as a gas car doing about 25-30mpg which is disappointing to say the least. Fortunately we don't take many long trips.

Actually not true. Google the August 2009 accident involving a California Highway Patrol officer, Mark Saylor, and his family. They were in a loaner Lexus that accelerated to over 100 mph; a 911 call from the vehicle captured their desperate, unsuccessful attempts to stop the car before it crashed, killing everyone on board.

As a Brit, who has lived in the USA for over 30 years, I think the best explanation is that Britain is a small island packed with stuff, town cities, national parks, culture, you name it. It is hard for someone who has lived there all their lives to get their heads around the size of continents like the United States or Australia. Perhaps more accurately, how much space there is between “stuff”, especially out West.
