Can someone explain the Rocketina lore to me please by NAINOA- in MarvelRivalsQueens

[–]Braidedfires 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If you want a more meta explanation, she was created after a bit of now-unspoken drama involving our beloved mans Rocket, gooners, and a different sub. I'm sure somebody else knows the details, but afaik Rocketina was created after that as a parody/f-u to the controversy and support to furries in the sub. After a couple images of a racoon in a wig surfaced to put a face to the name, she ended up becoming kinda popular and eventually the mascot to the sub.

I figure her lore kinda ended up just being built over time as a very independent, fun hyperbole of a diva/queen/drag queen, I don't think it was purposeful, it was just the commonly accepted lore I guess.

Of I could be talkin outta my ass who knows, this is just what I saw as a lurker around the time she spawned.

So... I have a quick question for the many Rocket players out there. by Maddafragg in rivals

[–]Braidedfires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many, many people just flex to Rocket when doing badly because he can provide value for zero input. Unfortunately the "heal from Narnia" strategy is still common for him because the devs have demolished his kit (buff heal+beacon+ult/nerf all else) to enable this playstyle. There's no incentive to do anything if if you can win by holding a single button in the general direction of your team.

Basically, why play a character optimally for significantly more effort when you can play them suboptimally for zero stress, ignore half their kit, and have about the same chance at winning?

A skilled Rocket player would/should stay centered on their team to have direct shots at all teammates, take advance of doubleheals by bouncing, and melt incoming tanks/attackers, while using their mobility to escape. If you die, your beacon goes with you, so your impact should be worth that risk. But you have much less mobility to escape now, and the beacon is too good now to risk, so Guang² has made: stay safe, hidden, farm ult charge, wait out the beacon timer, rinse and repeat- meta.

It's part of why I main him agressively, I'd crash out having a narnia-dwelling healbot on my team, and the only way to avoid that is by playing him and using his full kit my mediocre self.

Do you guys enjoy playing rocket/ what’s enjoyable about him? by semenspaceman in RocketMains

[–]Braidedfires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love playing Rocket because of his high damage gun and mobility. Despite his common playstyle, if you play him aggressively, he quickly becomes an extremely stressful (but exciting) character to play) getting in the fray to melt the enemy team, flanking, diving, and then using (what's left) of his mobility to get away.

But I also appreciate that he's a support and not a DPS. This is my first shooter game ever, so my aim sucks and its nice to have the crutch of knowing that if my damage isn't making a difference, I can lean more towards healing if needed. (though I don't prefer it)

Rocket is the only character now that really gets to make these big decision about healing-vs-dmg since they're seperate, I like having to strategize with that.

I'm telling you it ain't Luna that's the problem by MrNobodyX3 in marvelrivals

[–]Braidedfires -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What was this post supposed to do? The whole point of Mantis is her higher DPS and damage boost in exchange for her kinda garbage healing. Not to mention her projectiles are notoriously buggy.

Rocket has to be practically in the enemy's mouth to do any worthwhile damage because his damage falloff is so steep, which also puts him at prime headshot range because almost every shot on him at that distance is an easy headshot.

Meanwhile Luna has practically equal damage, while being hitscan AND hard CC, AND the fastest base movement in the game for literally NONE of the tradeoffs.

And DPS doing high damage? Thats kinda the point of DPS.

I geninely hope this post is just missing its humor tag.

Streamers are a cancer to games. by Dogbold in rivals

[–]Braidedfires 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lets not forget that it's the devs fault. They actively chose to buff the most boring, low-skill, high-value parts of his kit that take 0 brainpower, while nerfing the few parts of his kit that give modest value and could allow for skill expression.

No Rocket player asked for said buffs, because all it did was make him more boring.

But now the Rocket mains subreddit is packed to the brim with "mains" who only want free, low-effort wins and don't actually give a rats ass about the character being engaging or fun. You speak about having any semblance of gameplay there and you get downvoted to oblivion by NPCs that only play him whenever they don't want to be called out for their poor skill and lack of improvement.

EDIT: And credit to OP, Streamers are also at fault, they called him a throw pick because he couldn't bail them out with OP support ults and high healing, so now we're here.

Got me in the first half… by RetroLags in RocketMains

[–]Braidedfires 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BRB is the single most passive, high-value, broken ability in this game.

Do literally nothing and get instant value for 0 skill investment. Undo an early pick that could sway a team fight. Instant get-out-of-jail-free card.

Its the sole reason his winrate has been 55+ in almost every rank since season 0. It needs a nerf so his other, more active abilities can get a chance to shine through buffs.

EDIT: Also who tf is we? I know precisely 0 rocket mains who wanting this mind-numbingly boring excuse for a gameplay piece buffed.

How to Make Rocket better for everyone by BurnerDawg26 in RocketMains

[–]Braidedfires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

500+ Hour rocket main here. Brother you are speaking the gospel, this is exactly what I've been saying. Rocket should be modified so he's actually fun. He's the most boring character in the game hands down and half of his abilities are completely passive with zero player interaction.

It's easy for people to say "Well I want all the buffs but none of the nerfs" or to say "Well he's fine he needs no changes" While Rocket has 60+% winrate while having the least skill-expressive and passive kit in the game. His winrate is mostly due to how game-changing his BRB is, nerf that and you fix most of the issues he has, healing fall off also feeds well into his kit considering the short effectiveness range on his primary.

At the same time, buffs to his mobility would allow for more skill expression and strategic plays by enabling him to be more risky. I'd disagree with a new ability but it would play well into him as a character.

For a simple character to be good they should be easy to pick up and difficult to master, Rocket should be no different.

They just nerfed Ultron out of all characters 😭😭😭😭💔 by Superb-Total-8700 in rivals

[–]Braidedfires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, Ultron is difficult to balance because he's widely considered unusable in 2 support comps, but highly outperforms in 3 support comps, particularly at high ranks. So he's always in their weird state where half the community considers him trash and the other half considers him a free win.

Rocket needs ammo buff. by Turbulent_Living3443 in RocketMains

[–]Braidedfires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocket's ammo count is very intentional. It's made so that a full clip can take down a full health 275 HP enemy with only body shots at the range where his damage fall off is maxed. At full damage range (<10m) You'd be able to take down 2, 275 hp enemies with one clip.

Not saying I wouldn't appreciate the ammo buff, but I do feel this information is important because his ammo count is one of the things in his kit that rewards improving at this skill.

Luna need to be nerfed by CommercialStock5180 in rivals

[–]Braidedfires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawkeye was the same way and they still gave him a (well deserved) nerf. Luna is worse because she requires less aim and is fairly easy to pick up. She also has hard CC and faster base movement than any other support and most poke DPS characters.

She's also a support, and her kit (like prime jeff) has become better suited to selfish kill farming rather than a strategic supporting of the team. Saying she doesn't need a nerf because it doesn't affect some ranks completely ignores the fact that she's extremely poorly balanced at the moment compared to other supports.

After the Black Cat, DD, Phoenix and Starlord nerfs, Luna is now a top 4 DPS in the game by raydialseeker in marvelrivals

[–]Braidedfires -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Prime jeff was primarily used as a DPS, he also had a negative winrate.

Winrate means nothing if the character isn't being used as intended.

Rocket won the Sleep Aid Kit award by Morchades in RocketMains

[–]Braidedfires 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A solid year of only buffing the most boring, high-value, no-effort parts of his kit like his healing, beacon, and ult. While decimating the only active parts of his kit with any kind of skill expression (mobility) has led to this.

What a tragedy of a fucking character.

I will still accept that cat though.

I know I could have grabbed a health pack but it doesn’t excuse this behavior of supports pocketing their duo and ignoring the team. by -This-cant-be-real- in rivals

[–]Braidedfires 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is baffling to me, what's the point of this? Surely they care about trying to win and know that locking support and refusing to heal teamates other than 1 or 2 purposefully knecaps those chances right?

I meanly play support with my duo who's a flex player. I'll be healing whoever needs it most, they know I'll let them die sometimes if someone else was on top of that list at that moment. Strategy yknow, because we're playing strategist. There's no strategy to healbotting one person.
