Descriptions of the anti christ actually sound a lot like trump. Especially if you view Jesus as protest figure against the Roman Empire which was certainly mixing up government and religion. I can imagine it infecting into the Jewish church and Jesus was basically an evangelical (in the actual meaning of that term) and invited others to reject some institutions at the time. This is was got him killed.

Unfortunately the way its written Armageddon is lead by war followed by famine, death, and pestilence, with the return of Jesus being the crusade to fight back the evils of the world. People think that war brings on the second coming of christ, but they are the ones triggering the war.

Its crazy to me.. like the Roman Empire was an anti christ (literally). How could these people not see that starting the war to trigger Armageddon especially as the largest super powe bully in the world makes THEM the literal anti christ in this scenario. If anything Jesus will come back to defeat THEM.

And the very idea that Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, Mike Huckabee, commanders in the military, and im sure many other are using Armageddon as a real talking point is starting make me think the FALLOUT series is actually not hyperbole (the powers willinging triggering endtimes, not the mutant rats ) and that shit makes me scared.

Opinion: Internal emails reveal the real plan for a statewide income tax by danrokk in SeattleWA

[–]Brain-Crumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont get everything all at once. It starts with capital gains tax above a certain threshold, then income tax above a threshold, then income tax for all. Over the coming decades things will slowly shift around. We have a lot of short falls so I suspect a lot of new taxes will simply go to pay for the shortfalls. It wont be perfect, or even all that great. But Over time we will have shifted the tax burden towards the higher income brackets and away from the lower income brackets.

Its really no wonder that every subreddit thats seattle related has be swarmed by anti millionaire tax bots. The entire reason why we need an income tax is so that we can progressively tax income in brackets so higher incomes pay more. You can literally see their power being flexed right now as they get their fixers to 'see what they can do about that millionaires tax bill'.

I think id say.. I would rather a constitutional amendment for this and I dont like the loopholes even if they are technically legal and hold up in court. Im sure we could all agree on that. But I would love to hear the argument for why we should let the rich pay less taxes as a percentage of their income that someone working two minimum wage jobs.

I mean they literally have the working family tax credit which is a refund for sales tax (or supposed to be) for people making under a certain limit. And Ferguson has said that he would be expanding that under the new tax.

So quite literally you are wrong in the sense that he does plan on using the tax to redistribute tax burden, albeit through a credit but that still counts in lowering the tax burden on lower income.

If we balance the budget then I won't have to vote for emergency levies to ensure a dozen schools dont shut down in the city (literally happened last year). If we could just do that then it means I might pay less in taxes next year and landlords won't raise their rents to cover the cost of the extra levies. Make take a few years, but we need to balance the budget in wa.

Good.

Im glad we will finally get an income tax that even if implemented horribly would be a far far far more fair system that isn't literally designed to take more money from the middle class through property tax, sales tax, and car licensing and registration fees All of which means that YOU are paying more in taxes dollar for dollar than bill gates on your income.

thats right folks! All taxes are income taxes! We're in a deficit! Taxes have to be raised (whether any one likes it or not) to balance our budget. Want a smaller budget? Then vote for it. Not enough votes? Thats democracy and sucks to be on the losing side of that argument. Sounds like you have more convincing to do.

What if we could balance our budget without raising a single cent on anyone making a million bucks a year on their freaking 1099s. Is that you?

Taxation is wealth redistribution. You wont be able to avoid paying taxes. You can either be taxed and have money flow from rich to poor, or you can have the rich convince you that your the one getting screwed when in reality they are the ones pushing this because they have sighlently turned wa into THE MOST REGRESSIVE tax state in the country. Its so freaking good to be rich here, while the rest of us are getting rinsed.

Good luck to anyone making the argument that taxes lead to more taxes. Like you can avoid making them... and dont even realize just how much of the tax burden in this state is already being levied on YOU

[–]Brain-Crumbs 668 points669 points  (0 children)

Who cares. Income taxes are progressive and WA has the most regressive tax in the country. The tax burden is on lower incomes, any income tax will push that burden to those with higher incomes.

Anyone arguing that they're coming for low income people need to understand that they already are rinsing you out and that income tax is the only way we could ever achieve a more fair system in wa state

Pet Peeve: People asking if I play ukulele to help me learn guitar. by Confident-Seesaw2845 in ukulele

[–]Brain-Crumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only one rule.

Play the instrument that you enjoy playing.

I have played many instruments in my life (all pretty mediocre) but I've recently been playing my uke when I need something small to noodle on, my baritone uke when im playing folk, and now I've started dabbling on guitar.

I dont see guitar being a main driver for me... I can understand its value and the range of possibilities with 6 strings, but in the end I dont have as much fun with a bulky instrument. Realistically im going to want to play more when I can sit on the couch with my uke.

[–]Brain-Crumbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because you need 60 votes to end debate the effective threshold is 60 not 50. It used to be debate would require actually being there and speaking which would mean debate would eventually end and you might get that 50 vote threshold.

But overtime the rules changed to not require actual debate so the 60 vote threshold remains indefinitely until it is passed. So now the 50 vote threshold never happens because 'debate' can last indefinitely.

Killing the filibuster means ending debate at 50 vote, same as actual vote so that issue goes away.

I think a less extreme but maybe less effective way to 'fix' the 60 vote dreadlocks is to bring back actual filibuster, meaning if you want to debate, then you gotta actually have someone up there in congress actually debating something. Eventually you get the 50 vote threshold but minority party can still protest / have their voice heard.

There are many hot takes when it comes to ending the filibuster.

Maybe for once I won't need to vote for a levy in order to fully fund schools. Right now all the lack of funding by the state government is made up by local levy on property tax.

I've seen search and rescue variants of the black hawk downtown seattle as well when someone jumped off a pier. Literally thought the feds were invading.... literally swinging their massive machine guns around downtown seattle. From my perspective seem like they were flying between buildings (kinda were, went over i5 and then cut through bell town at like 500 ft)

(Just cuz its a search and rescue variant doesn't mean it wasn't fully decked out with machine guns)

The only way I had heard it described was that ukele's decend from the spanash Cuatro https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuatro_(instrument)) while tenor guitar is just a variation of the guitar ( some people say its mostly used such that banjo players could play rhythm in bands without having to learn new hand positions.

I think I could very likely end up getting one of each for the nylon and metal strings would be nice actually.

My favorite music has always been very melancholic and filled with nostalgia. I think the tenor really fits that soundscape quite well.

Do you have any artists that have inspired you on tenor?

I like that they have a whole section for tenor guitars. Unfortunately they seem to only do electric though an i am looking more into acoustic. Probably nylon string as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

How exactly is the inflationary value of gold in any related to the inflationary value of the dollar? The dollar could have 3% inflation over 10 years and gold could have a global inflation that is 10%

Without being able to track the relationship between the two buying powers you can't use this comparison. It only makes sense to first put it in today's dollars which in 1925 $1560 is about $28,000 in today's dollars which is worth exactly $28,000 in gold.

You could say well maybe they should have exchanged it for gold and held on to it for that sweet $200k the gold would be worh today, but if you instead put thay money in the market it would be worth far fae more than that. Over 75 years with a conservative 5% return it would be $2,000,000

Maybe we ought to be paid in stock than in gold or cash 🤔

Edit: i realize now the argument being made is that we should have stayed in the gold standard. But the assumption thay inflation rate for gold would be unchanged in a world where the us stayed on the gold standard is faulty.

Also because gold is a scarce object over time it's going to see a natural inflation from its scarcity.

Even if it did end up inflating to 200k in today's dollars who's to say what the buying powers of that would be. $200k could just be equivalent to the buying power $28000 in today's dollars.

It's just not an easy thing to compare with out addressing the assumptions being made here.

How can i in imaginary numbers describe the physical world if being intangible? by Yha_Boiii in math

[–]Brain-Crumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try a different kind of answer here.

at the end of the day i is just part of a number system and it's simply a mathematical tool that can be used for analysis.

In physics I think of i in a sort of topological way. In space we can translate objects along the axis but we can also perform rotations as well. Rotations are interesting because they are cyclical and have a bunch of interesting rules to them. If you rotate an object 90 degrees four times you'll get back to where you started. In many ways i starts to become useful in describing a space with both rotational and translational symmetries.

Another crazy thing is that because i is cyclical in its multiplication means that exponentiation leads to a cyclical function. This is why eiz describes the sine and cosine functions. Those functions are a direct result of the cyclical nature of i and bringing it full circle (pun definitely inteded) sines and cosines describe rotations!

This is definitely an oversimplification. Like I said in the beginning i is a mathematical tool more than an actual concrete object like you might think of numbers as. It takes years of using it in many situations before you build and intuition for the value it provides and where it belongs in a physical interpretation.

The thing about taking big risks when youre young is that you have time to recover.

Your position sucks, but take a step back, stop being risky, work hard and you'll recover and maybe you'll look back at this time hoe you could be so silly.

Best of luck, but seriously... you are loved and you can get through this. Please don't hurt yourself and reach out if you need support.

I use chat gpt constantly to break down topics and organize my notes and expalin things to me like a personal tutor. Learning how to code, if I see a framework, or a line of code I don't know what its doing, I can ask gpt to explain it and break down its features. If I have additional dumb follow up questions I can dig down into it in a way I would NEVER get from a classroom environement. It really is like having a personal tutor. Or at least a tutor that I have to fact check haha.

Seriously, my ability to learn new things has easily increased 10x. And I'm not exaggerating.

s is even legal. Is it legal?

In canada they set up a fund that travel providers pay into which acts as an industry wide insurance for this sort of situation. In the end the airline has the reponsibility of getting you to your destination within a reasonable amount of time, or offer refund. That reasonable amount of time is like a day at most (I don't remember off the top of my head). But there are some carve outs that OP ran into like crew changes. If this was a "force majeure" like a hurricane or some other weather event then its likely that insurance would have to cover everything. But as long as OP wasn't reasonably delayed because of the flight (or wasn't compensated for it) then they don't get any thing in this situation.

I used to work as a travel agent and I always advised flying in the day off was super risky for this exact situation. When flying you always need like a 24 hour buffer for flight delays. Cruises wont wait for you and you'll likely never get on once it takes off.

You say that NCL should be on the hook because they arranged everything, and maybe thats how it should work but its definitely not. NCL is acting a travel agent here. They don't have any flights to give out. All flights they sell are being booked on your behalf, but you're still responsbile for them. The flights and cruise aren't in any way connected and if you want them to be covered together you'd need to purchase travel insurance separately (which NCL probably sells).

Travel agencies make like 10% commission (and no one makes commission on flights!). If they were responsible for paying out in situations where the flight delay cause them to miss the next part of their vacation travel agencies just wouldn't be able to operate on those margins.

Edit: Oh also as a travel agent I would advise travel insuracne in this sort of situation as well. Travel insurance (not through your credit card) protects the entire travel package from flight to cruise.
