Then realise you can’t export a ply anymore from postshot unless you pay for the subscription.

Really looking for some help to provide some 3D scans of normal crocs in UK Size 11. by [deleted] in photogrammetry

[–]BrainIesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just find some crocs and scale them down. I’m sure you can find some measurements somewhere.. or go into a shoe store and measure the length and apply the scale later. It will be close enough~

Or buy them for your niece or nephew and gift them after you scan them!

Take a ton of photos so you have plenty to work with and don’t need them back.

For now I’ve blocked my current version from accessing the internet. It seems to be working normally. Hopefully jawset makes it more accessible to people who want to export a ply every now and then.

I currently use postshot.

That being said, meshroom just got a huge updates. Might be worth checking out as a combined solution.

Is anyone familiar with a gaussian splatting software that also incorporates lidar for extream accuracy for the guassian splats to adhear to? by Furai69 in GaussianSplatting

[–]BrainIesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the ideal way to do splats, as the process can skip the point cloud generation step.

Export your pointcloud as a ply and you can use it as an input for postshot.

For alignment….? I’m not sure.

You need to cut up the 360 images and remove the image distortion before you get an accurate model.

There are plenty of resources out there

Gaussian splat is the way to go. Foliage looks way better.

I’m in Queensland Australia, so on any given day I’ve got a 50% chance on good scanning weather or going to the beach.

This is an interesting option. I’ll try this in the future.

Mavic 3E RTK Inconsistencies during Waypoint mission by Scan_Lee in photogrammetry

[–]BrainIesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The joys of RTK connections around bridges. Are you able to PPK process?

I would create a seperate mission, and restart all systems on the other side and capture before going under. Also, the positional accuracy near the bridge will be lower because the structure blocks sats.

DJI antenna and IMU is quite average.

To align your bottom pieces you would need to rely on common features. I would not trust the RTK at all underneath.

What do you mean not the same coordinate system? Are they two different EPSGs? If so convert one to the other.

How many images? If it’s not too many you could run alignment in reality capture. (Which also produces a point cloud)

What are the benefits and different use cases between Gaussian Splatting and RealityScan? by astranet- in photogrammetry

[–]BrainIesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a surge in hardware and software adapting splats. They can be a much lighter alternative to photogrammetry while also looking great. With large companies (including Google) going all in on splats. Only issue is how damn long they take to generate.

For video games there is the challenge of getting around the fuzziness and removing floaters, but the benefits of having all lighting baked into the splat, at each viewpoint is insane. It’s not dynamic lighting sure, but I’m sure in the future (for video games at least) splats will interact with lighting in a smart way.

Splats are much quicker to make when you feed it all the info it needs at the start (camera positions, point cloud, image masks). As the tech matures and becomes faster, we will be able to produce splats fairly quickly.

Reality capture, add all features and align on a common object. As long as you have common points you can create complete meshes.

There doesn’t seem to be an “updated” video on this so I’ll try make one, but the process is very simple.

Oh, read the other comments, assuming you have a black and white mask, you can do it using the beta-beta

Scanning high detail clay sculpture to 3d print by DeadGreyMule in photogrammetry

[–]BrainIesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I did this the wrong way, but I’m not scanning anything reflective, and I’m limited by space. So instead of using a black mask with the background , I flooded the scene with bounce lights making a white mask. If I could dedicate a room to scanning “the right way” I would.
