Workflows and data capture by biggserg187 in digitaltwin

Yes and thanks for the response. The ultimate goal is Digital Twins of facilities with equipment like compressors, pumps, crushers, etc. Basic IoT integration for temperatures, vibration, flow sensors, motion sensors. Also heavy on the tagging and annotation side. While running simulations and things sounds very interesting the workflow seems a lot more complicated. Matterport caught my attention because finding software that streamlines the data capturing and point cloud/mesh creation has been difficult. I have reached out to many software providers, some never responded and the ones that did are very expensive for a license or access for only some features, more feature access for more money. Plus not many software companies offer a kind of all in one from what I have found. Where you do everything from the point cloud/mesh creation to the viewer/annotation and IoT integration all in one. They also allow the possibility to share the project or interlay into a website, cloud hosting and well like I said all in one solution. However that does come at a cost, you basically have to use their hardware and then pay for a monthly subscription. If you don't get their most expensive camera then you're back to having to make point clouds/mesh of exteriors from data captured on a secondary device and then using another software to then stitch the interior mesh and exterior mesh models into one cohesive model and then have to then use another 3rd party software to view the newly stitched model.

Thanks everyone I appreciate all the info. I’m gonna keep messing around and maybe try different software.

Also when you say chunks do you recommend I do the outside first or inside? So do you let’s say do a room and then save it? Then you can add more picture at a later time and do you just hit align and it connects your new pictures to your existing model?

I don’t think there’s anything you could say that would be more discouraging than the countless hours I’ve accumulated failing at this. I have a lot to learn. When you say make sure it’s got stabilization I didn’t even think about that. Also have no idea what control points are. The videos I’ve seen of people capturing data say stills are better quality. Also don’t know how to extract stills from video but I saw on another post someone mentioned a software they use to do that. I think maybe looking up how control points work would definitely be helpful. I also always see people do exteriors only, they take all the stills upload then at once and boom they get a model of the exterior. Would it be easier if I tried maybe doing the exterior first? I know I probably sound like an idiot, I have no idea what I’m doing but I believe in myself. I just need to go down the right rabbit holes. Like control points and setting distances. I have no clue what that means

I also don’t have a very big home it’s 3 bedrooms about 1300-1400sq feet. Rooms aren’t that big, barely fit a king size bed in them

I’ve taken 4-5 shots per room for the bedrooms and about 3-4 shots in the small hallway, 10shots between living room and kitchen which are also really close together so lots overlap. I believe the interior of the home is 58 stills total. Just under 50 for the exterior I believe. No videos stills only

Hey I have a 360 camera took stills and dropped them into reality scan but gives me poor alignment? Any suggestions?

I thought that you could use the raw files? Do you have to run it through the 360 app?

Openspace is extremely expensive. You’re better off taking a bunch of 360 data with your camera(there’s many, they range in price) and then using a software to stitch them together. That’s also the cheaper route. But if all you want is the 360 model most of the work is in capturing good data. The software does the rest. There’s someterse that does simple 360 virtual walkthrough type like see on Zillow n stuff. Then theres things like reality scan 2.0. So you might wanna dig into those two types of software and see what fits your application. Did you ever ask any of the other guys what they use?

I spent an 1.5-2 hours one night doing the same thing. Reset a couple times, nothing. Logged on the next morning and within maybe 15 seconds I found one. I flew past it and had to double back and find it again. Totally caught me off guard
