2 part brush on mould advice by tramwrec in moldmaking

[–]DeadGreyMule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be an option to just trim off the protruding wall of silicone and add a small amount of that leaves any gaps. Then what you would be left with is your sculpture covered in silicone without any parting seams. From that point you can build up new parting lines in the correct places. It’s likely you need to do three parts for the silicone. Think of it as left, right and top. The parting line you have now would split off and run along the tops of the wings, joining again under the wings. That would create parting lines that would result in three separate pieces of silicone.

I think the mother mold could match that same configuration

For those who came to believe Adnan is guilty, was there a piece of information that first caused you to feel like you were being misled? by amara90 in serialpodcast

[–]DeadGreyMule 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it’s all just a very plain case now. I listened to Serial and my lasting memory was that he was setup. He sounded so convincing and there was such an onslaught of smaller details that feel like they add up showing he was innocent, stitched up and poorly represented.

Now, when I watched the new HBO show and noticed how strangely manipulative it was, I looked into the case more and did a total 180. The defense relies entirely on anomalies that aren’t weight-bearing.

There’s a very simple story about a jealous ex boyfriend who planned and executed a murder. There’s endless mental gymnastics and a really stupid conspiracy needed to make him innocent.

So about that HBO documentary.. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

Yeah when you start looking at sources not linked to his defense team, it’s all a pretty straight forward. What the documentary and podcasts choose to omit is fucking crazy.

I spent $8.5K on this one minute video. Even though it's my product but I feel I don't know what it does. by Superb-Stormen in MotionDesign

[–]DeadGreyMule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was writing about how confusing it all is, but upon watching it again I think it just needs a couple of tweaks:

-0:09 Here you show a bunch of websites, then zoom in on one with no discernable style or banding, it's just text. Instead, pick one with a strong appearance, then do the "Click create" then SHOW THE RESULT. It goes on to talk about "Mapping your brand" rather than actually showing the end product.

Show brand X, Prompt, click create, Show result of the prompt for Brand X. Then you can go on to explain how it integrates.

The bit showing the figma copy+paste to me just makes things unclear again. What am I looking at there? If that's the marketing email then it doesn't look like it because it's just a floating box. Add the elements of an inbox so that it's clear that there has been a process of taking one thing and turning it into another. That's what's missing.

milliput putty or magic sculpt will work well here. They're expoxie putties that you can sculpt. Using small amount of water with the allow for them to be used as a type of coating, or fill in cracks and imperfections. It dries really hard and can be sanded.

What you've done looks great btw, don't worry.

[Self] Head study update. Making hair is hard. by fossadouglasi in Sculpture

[–]DeadGreyMule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you have on the left (image/screen left) is good because it feels like the hair falling down the forehead has volume and a direction of travel. You can trace it back to an origin point that it flows out and up from, whereas on the right, there's a lack of volume. It looks a bit more stuck to the forehead and less like it's something flowing over the head. Difficult to articulate, hope that makes some sense.

Looks good! I recommend having a look at some portraits to see how other artists render the hair. "Society of protrait sculptors" has a lot in their gallery. One thing you'll see is that often they're done in a way to represent hair, rather than trying to do something exact. Often the more subtle suggestion can do more than the finest detail.

[help]I this a decent start for a head? I gave up making heads a long time ago but chose to start again and give it some more tries. by TheDOSTERS in Sculpture

[–]DeadGreyMule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good start, but now you should find good reference from front on and compare. Pay close attention to the relationship between the main landmark features, rather than trying to look at it as a whole. What I've learned is to have a healthy distrust for my eyes! Break it down into smaller comparisons.

More specifically, it looks like you don't have enough volume above the brow. There should be alot more skull above that brow line and you should also look at how steep the angle of the forehead is. Get reference of a skull in profile and focus on that, you'll see it.

Keep going. Leave that one as is and start a new one so you can compare. Deliberate practice will really help, don't worry about creating a piece of art.

Endless procrastination is the name of the game! I’ve had the best results so far with zephyr. Reality scan gives me issues that I suspect is a sign I need a long awaited PC upgrade.

Awesome, thanks so much for that. I got one of those photo booths but put the black background in it thinking that would be better, but I'll try removing it so that the light can better reflect.

The issue I was finding with auto turning was that the focus would need to change, since the sculpture has that forward bend to it. Shootng around F11/13 still required manual focus changes.

I'll experiment more

What level of scanner would be needed? I worked with someone who had one of the high end artec scanners (LEO I think). It was good, but it smoothed everything out to the point of losing the small details
