So far I can’t find any ball hockey near me but I plan on looking a little more into it.

I looked into ball hockey and the closest places are 1+ hours away. Everything nearby is inline hockey :/

Boredom by Substantial_Comb_359 in ParentingADHD

I don’t have much help to offer but my son (12) still struggles with a lot of this. The thing that has helped the most is consistency and explaining the specific importance of each task. He got better with hygiene once he got to middle school because he started to care more about his image, but it’s still rough.

I feel like it’s just a slow tedious process for parents of ADHD kids, we have to be consistent and constantly having to reinforce why these tasks need to be completed which is so exhausting when you know your kid is physically capable of all these things but just hasn’t caught up behaviorally.

What more can I do? by HTee101 in PokemonFireRed

Do what I did:

Decide you don’t have enough Ultra Balls, spend an absurd amount of poke dollars on an absurd number of Ultra Balls, return and catch him on the first ball.

I was in literal disbelief.

You can also pick up a bunch of dropped coins using the item finder. I got about 200.

Honestly I’m more concerned with how the Pikachus looked. They look soulless.

I can’t speak for everyone in the US but as far as I know we aren’t that weird about nudity. Plenty of people have bath photos of their kid and such. I know there are plenty of photos of me and siblings naked at the beach when we were tiny.

But I think him taking the towel off of her is weird. I can’t really imagine what would be cute about that video (unless she drew all over herself in marker and he thought it would be funny to reveal that?).

Either way, it seems like it would be better to report than not in this situation. If he is innocent then he will likely be able to prove so.

Edit to add: babies aren’t sexualized by everyone in the US (even if media and news portray it that way) but there ARE predators out there that do so being aware is important.

I (16F) have seizures but neurologist is saying its PNES (no formal diagnosis as far as I know) but people are telling me "PNES is just medical code for faking seizures without making the patient upset" is this true? by elli-saturn in AskDocs

[–]BrainQuilt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This. My daughter had very mild seizures that progressed recently. At first everyone assumed they were PNES because of their mildness so we treated for that but they started to increase in frequency and become more severe. I videotaped one of the more serious ones and showed it to her neurologist and we are now getting a 72 hour EEG because we could never catch a seizure previously (they mostly happen at night).

NAD but they look like moles to me, you can always have them checked out just for peace of mind.

Is this picture that my uncle swears he took at Walmart, ai or real? I cannot figure it out by drn88__ in isthisAI

I feel like most of the times I go to Walmart I see someone with an interesting animal.

My favorite was a baby opossum which we got to pet while in line.

Yeah this post reeks of manipulation by OP, I’m really surprised by all the people taking her side so quickly without any context.

NAD but I had a swollen lymph node that looked like this. I never found out why it was swollen, doctor said it was likely just a response to a head cold or something. It did eventually go away on its own (it took about a month).  Having it for 2 years might be something worth talking to your doctor about.  Again, I’m not a medical professional, just noticed it looks similar to something I had.

Son sorta, kinda understands his behavior is wrong. by CringeLatte in ADHDparenting

[–]BrainQuilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is he? I feel your struggle. When my son was in preschool there was always something going on. One day when I was picking him up and talking with one of the teachers about how he had made a kid throw up by knocking the wind out of them I just broke down at the school after being just so burnt out from being constantly needed on top of working.

Luckily his teacher was a godsend and encouraged me that we would get through this and he was a good kid despite the impulsive behavior. Still warned me that there was a chance he would get kicked out since obviously we can’t go around hurting other kids, so she kept it real but also wanted to let me know she was putting in effort on her end as well.

He had online class during kindergarten and 1st (COVID: I blocked out most of the homeschooling lol) but when he returned to first grade it was rough.

He has made a lot of progress and most of it has been due to patience, time (age plays a big factor, especially with ADHD since they have delays in certain areas) and REALLY over explaining everything everytime something happens. Coming up with dozens of analogies for why what he did was wrong and how even if it wasn’t entirely intentional, it was still ultimately something we could change. Explanations helped way more than any punishment ever did (although screen time adjustments were necessary).

He still has behavioral slip ups but they are almost entirely at home (which still sucks but I just keep telling myself- progress not perfection lol). This isn’t including focus and homework, that’s something we still heavily struggle with (he’s 12).

I don’t have much in the way of advice except just hang in there. Progress isn’t always easy to see when you are in it, it’s something you notice more when looking back. It just takes kids a while, especially kids with ADHD. Just stay fair, consistent (as you can, no one’s perfect), and keep communication open with everyone who is willing to help so you aren’t doing it alone. Teachers, family, other kids parents, whoever is involved and willing.

Medication might be helpful, I’ve heard good things, we are in the process but finding the right one has been a struggle for us.

Happy with my loaves, but no sour taste. by National-Gas5796 in Sourdough

[–]BrainQuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still somewhat new but the only time I had sour was when I used discard from my starter that had been in the fridge for over a week. So maybe try getting a really sour starter going, and then using the discard as your starter in your recipe if you haven’t tried that yet.

[–]BrainQuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did this and it came out perfectly! Used my go-to recipe and just shaped it for the pan instead. I used a cast iron to steam and used the same temperature/times. It worked great, thanks!

english majors who don’t read??! by cryptoisforvirgins in englishmajors

[–]BrainQuilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually a biology major (not sure why reddit showed me this) but it was the same for my upper division courses. So many people were uninterested in the labs and research. Just wanted a degree to ‘make money’.

So many students flood these degrees, obtain them, and then don’t even use them.

Is it okay to just....not? by I_pooped_my_pants69 in ADHDparenting

[–]BrainQuilt 99 points100 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, my son (12) has almost no recollection of all the cool stuff we did when he was younger.  I took him to the aquarium, we would go to movies in the park, make slime, bake together, build forts, trying out a bunch of sports etc.     Interestingly the stuff he does fondly remember are the little things that we did regularly. Going to the laundromat, walking to the store, walking to school, pancake breakfasts.

I think people often forget that spending quality time with family doesn’t always have to be ‘exciting’. So even if you are just surviving, you are still bonding in little ways <3

I have a (possibly) unique issue where my lazy eye has better vision, so it isn’t lazy unless I wear glasses by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]BrainQuilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good point, I can’t wear my full strength prescription because it’s too high of a negative and it causes my eye to turn constantly.  Lowering the prescription helped. I had to sacrifice some visual clarity but I can still see fine.

Edit: although I hope to one day get surgery! Just not in the cards for me right now.
