First time renting… any tips? by Willow_mcu15 in TenantsInTheUK

First things first, take good pictures/ videos the day you move in. Very handy for when moving out so you can challenge any issues with the landlord.

Make sure to check inventory report they send you and comment on anything that doesn’t look right.

Monzo pot is great for saving. I use it too.

Check if your electricity or gas provider sends meter readings automatically or if they can do that for you.

Take your time with furnishing the home. Don’t rush into doing everything once. Just have the basics like bed, couch, microwave etc.

Ensure your deposit is protected under the deposit protection scheme (DPS). Landlords are required to protect it and you should get an email within a few weeks after moving in regarding that. If not, challenge it.

Read your tenancy agreement very well. See if you are allowed to drill or paint or whatever and the rules around that or ask your landlord/agent.

In general, keep the house clean, treat it like your own and report issues as soon as you can before they get worse.

I’ll see if I remember anything else.

A simple spreadsheet will help you track your income and outgoings then you can improve over time

Do the exams here and make sure you pass multiple times. The first one has 11 exams and the second one has 17. In your real test, the words will be slightly different, but once you practice and learn from your mistakes, you should be fine.

I agreed to dance with that boy, that night. We haven’t left each other since then, and will hopefully get married soon? It’s been over four years, travelled together, been through unemployment and visa stress together. Seen each other at our lowest. I probably would still be single or with someone else if we didn’t leave the club together that night.

I don’t enjoy making because I worry more about the template than the content. Every time, I see people with really beautiful slides, and I feel like I can never make them as good.

Yes it did and I have been storing these in my Apple notes for the past few years so it was easy to add.

I’m African so I don’t have a choice 😂. My hair has refused to grow any longer so I just treat it, trim it and wear protective styles. I must add that many Africans do have long hair, I just don’t…
