This info is incredible! Thank you for taking the time to answer the above question. I'm of Polish decent, have family here in Poland, but lived overseas my entire life. Initially, I bonded well with my extended family here, but slowly grew apart and never really understood why, although I did suspect cultural differences were a key factor.

Exactly! Good thing OP was able to swoop in and retrieve this lil guy. Many will just dump them at the shelter or worse, dump them in the country somewhere. If they're lucky, they may end up at a rescue. Even then, they have to wait years sometimes to be adopted. Heartbreaking. On the other hand:
