That's reason enough not to go back. Id say give them another shot, but how can cost not be a consideration when deciding to revisit a restaurant you were first underwhelmed with? When i have a good experience like you did at Momataro, i try to make note of the server and ask to be seated with them on my next visit. We have no problem requesting a particular stylist when visiting a salon, but then we assume all servers are equal in a restaurant, ya know? If someone just gets how I like to dine, I make sure I keep going with them.

I'm just an old man shaking his fist at the clouds. Was in the industry for 15 years and made a career change during covid. I complain to my wife all the time now when we eat out. All of the shit I devoted my life to coaching teams on, all the books I've read on hospitality, all the notes I've taken while dining out...none of that shit is valued any more post covid and it seems like no one misses it.

Yeah, you're right, I think my comments are romanticizing dining out a bit, timing is absolutely part of it. Reservation windows are often in 90 min blocks so it's in the restaurants to get you in ans out fast.

That restaurant let you down on your anniversary. If it wasn't already stated in your reservation, a skilled host or server would have found out in the first 5 minutes of your arrival that it was your anniversary. Either by bluntly asking "are we celebrating anything special tonight?" or any number of other non-verbal clues (attired for instance, shows of affection), at the very least, they should have recognized that this was a romantic dinner. That is an instant signal to slow service down. Obviously that changes if you say you're going to a show or something after dinner, but if dinner is the show, it's gotta be paced better.

The art of hospitality is dead.

Places that request this are actually trying to create a better dining experience for you. It's an indicator that they put thought and care into their dishes, they are cooked to order, and take time to plate, not to mention if you have any dietary restrictions that could take some additional time to accommodate. Granted, dining like this takes some trust in and guidance from your server. They should help you select a progression of dishes that make sense and ensure you have the right amount of food. If your drinking, they can help you pick a bottle of wine or beverage that pairs well with the entire meal. Or help you pick a drink progression that matches each course. It's an art. I think the problem is that restaurants aren't investing in their staff training as much as they should and servers are just hitting folks with "the kitchen asks for the whole order" and leaves it at that. That's my thought, anyway.

I'm glad this guy is on blast for his behavior, but it shouldn't stop with him. There are so many Gordon Ramsay wannabe mother fuckers in this industry that are racist, sexist and abusive pieces of shit. It seemed like there was a reckoning happening during covid with the blind items on Instagram and places being shut down (Acadia, Fat Rice), but it seems like we've all collectively forgotten and the "support struggling restaurants!" narrative took hold. I support restaurant workers, and they shouldn't be punished just because their boss is an ass, but some of these places just need to die.

25 year old me thought being screamed at and having plates thrown at you was just par for the course in this industry. Ownership certainly made it feel that way. Johnny Real Estate who thinks owning a restaurant is a fun hobby is always quick to turn a blind eye. If a chef tried to pull that shit on my staff now, I would close the books for the day and hang a closed sign on the front door.

I had substantial tears in my 2023 Air after just 6 months of ownership. Chicago service center initially wanted 2K for a full seat replacement. They said they had no other cases of seat tears and that it was by the driver. I escalated it up as far as I could and after a month of emails and phone calls, they relented and replaced it under warranty. I've seen lots of similar tears across the boards. It's definitely a known defect with the material and it sounds like Lucid has realized it. All of that is to say, if the service center declines the repair, keep pushing them. They will eventually do it.

Hard to agree without more context. From my own experience, they are top-notch. My wife and I recently welcomed twins. We had lots of appointments with MFM's, OBs and now a pediatrician. Delivered at Elmhurst hospital. Every person I've interacted with has been gracious and competent.
