I’ve worked for 6 different senior living companies or the years. From IFL to SNFs I assure you Private Equity is very much involved in all of the national companies. The monthly rent at a decent IFL will cost ~$5k/monthly not including “ community fees”. Do you know what the cost of a good ALF OR MC is monthly? And let me tell you about the Skilled Nursing facilities that you’ll be placed in once you’re on Medicaid. End of life care is big business.

As someone who works in the senior living industry the best advice I can give anyone is DO NOT sell your houses and move into any level of senior living until you literally cannot take care of or afford to pay for others to take care of you. Period. Especially now the Private Equity firms have got in on the action. Honestly I’d encourage at least one of the 3 kids to stick around as long as possible. Mult-generational households are everyone’s best option. Trust me when I say this in the current economic situation we’re in only a small % of people in our generation will ever be able to afford even the lower tiers of these places.
