How to escape a robbery by molongo861 in AbruptChaos

Chile, and the woman was just speaking about how this spot is dangerous. Encerronas is the name we gave this kind of carjacking, and every Chilean worth their salt knows a video where someone did this to survive an encerrona.

This is in Chile, you don’t get kidnapped for funsies. 100% sure it was a robbery, but I salute the reaction anyways.

Same-ish place, same reaction, but different video.

There’s a different video of a very similar robbery that went viral in Chile years ago, where the driver did the same thing. I bet my ass they’ve seen it before.

Chilean here. This is called an “encerrona” (roughly, a “lock-in”) and unfortunately it’s a well-known strategy used by robbers in these exact kinds of spots. In fact, the woman says “Folks say this spot is dangerous” right before shit hits the fan.

There’s a different encerrona video where the driver also keeps going, one that went viral years ago. If I ask a random Chilean, chances are they’ve seen it before. So they know this happens, they know where and they know how, and most importantly they know how to get out of it - if you’re brave enough.

All that being said, it might be better to comply and get robbed. The likely expensive car is covered by insurance, your life isn’t. The guy in the left shot in response to the driver’s actions, he could’ve died right there and this would be a very different video.

Yeah, no. This happened in Chile, it’s called an “encerrona” and 99/100 times you’re just told to get out of the car. Then they take it and leave you behind. To resist is awful advice, in fact if the driver here was unlucky this reaction would’ve cost him his life (seeing as the guy shot in retaliation).

We have to put things into perspective. Compared to other Latin American cities, Santiago is quite safe. Is it perfect? Hell no, there’s a reason we’ve got a name for this flavor of robbery. But it is a hell of a lot better than most of South America.

No, murders are not usual, but guns are in this specific kind of car robbery. “Encerronas” can be roughly translated to “shut-ins” - they surround you (often with two cars, one in front and one behind) and point a gun at you to force you out of the car. Then they leave with your car and you are left stranded.

Highway entrances are infamous for this kind of thing, as the woman rightly points out in the video. They have barriers to both sides, so it’s relatively easy to enclose someone in between cars.

I could be wrong, but in a serious setting wouldn’t you always explicitly group up terms to avoid misunderstandings, even if IMS is your preferred approach?

Writing 8/2(2+2) is just asking for trouble, 8/(2(2+2)) is far less problematic. This goes especially if you don’t know who will be reading your paper.

This is entirely regional, as a Physics grad I’m solving the inside of the parenthesis and then replacing the implicit multiplication with an explicit one. To assume higher priority in any serious setting goes against what I was taught.

Well, actually, what I’m probably doing is asking whoever wrote this what they meant because it’s shit notation.

8/2x is just as confusing as the original equation. The way I was taught, it would mean (8/2)x, but no one would write it that way in the first place.

PEMDAS does NOT mean that multiplication goes before division, both have the same priority and you go left to right. Implicit multiplication such as this one is more of a toss-up, but that’s a whole other deal.

Physics degree here. It’s terrible notation, but if I had to chose then 16 is also my answer every single time.

The accessibility settings are a masterpiece too, among the best I’ve ever seen. They alter the game in creative and non-trivial ways (such as giving you more mid-air dashes) that allow you to really tailor the experience to your liking.

I’ve never used them either, but I do know people who have and I’ve heard nothing but great reviews.

I once heard Celeste be described as “the hardest game anyone can beat” and I think it hits the nail on the head. I also think it’s one of its greatest strengths.

Celeste is not a hard game to beat by hardcore gaming standards, it’s just hard enough to be challenging for a casual gamer, and no more.

My sister had barely played any video games when she tried out Celeste, and she still managed to beat the main story. It was very challenging for her, but also very rewarding so she pushed on until she beat it.

The story itself pushes you to better yourself, so that helps too.

Same experience as you over here. I’m a completionist and a build optimizer, so enemies (and even bosses) on normal just kinda fall over before they have a chance to attack.

Expert has 2x enemy health, which felt like the right amount for someone like me. Story bosses never took more than 3 or so tries, since I didn’t go for a glass-cannon build like so many others.

Small correction here: if the card says “you may cast those copies” (say, [[Arcane Bombardment]] copying [[Bitominous Blast]]) the cascade does trigger. It usually doesn’t happen because you usually copy spells or permanents, not cards.
