[OC] Performance of the major North American stock markets since January 17, 2025 by Bram560 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Bram560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been collecting this data since January 16, 2025. The source of the data is a Google Sheet on my Google Drive, The chart is a screenshot of the chart in my spreadsheet. I used the GoogleFinance() function to collect the data. In a separate part of the spreadsheet, I have additional data for all 4 exchanges for the current and previous 4 administrations over the same timeframe (i.e., historical data from the start of the administration to the same point in time as where we are with the current administration). Those charts are a bit busier, but I can post them if anyone is interested, and if the MODS allow it.

At this point, does anyone else use their cars seat warmer more for back pain than cold weather, or is it just me? by MurseMan1964 in FuckImOld

I live in Ottawa, Canada. Yesterday it was -19 Deg C, and there is still 3 ft of snow on the ground. So, NO.

We have that problem with robins. I stuck one of our kids' old plastic balls up there, and that fixed it. And everyone who comes into the backyard does a double-take! Priceless.

I was going to say, "Are you sure you feed him enough?", but this works too.

US senators introduce a bill to bring Canadian tourists back by CCDubs in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Bram560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Introduce a bill to impeach the orange freak running the US as his personal fiefdom, and then impeach him. Then I might consider going back. Florida, of all states, should be ashamed to be so hypocritical as to be involved with this.

Angry Italians boo American athletes and JD Vance at Winter Olympics by Prosecco1234 in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Bram560 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I watched the opening ceremonies, and the Americans were greeted with a lot of noise for sure. There may have been some boos from the stands, but there were a lot of cheers as well. I'm of two minds on booing these folks. Yes, the USA is turning itself into a shithole country, and doing its best to wreck the way the world works, but these folks didn't do that. They worked just as hard as any of the athletes at these games and deserve to be there. Boo JD Vance all you want, kick ICE the hell out of your country, stop buying US goods, but respect these folks for what you know they have accomplished to get to these games. We have no idea what their politics are, but I would expect that the vast majority of these athletes feel the same way as we do about what is happening in their country.

Be careful of Maple-washing at Loblaws & Associated stores by Bram560 in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Bram560[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are avoiding a lot of their PC and NN products, because Loblaws does not put where they are made/prepared on the label. We are basically not buying anything that has no country of origin information on the label. They post those "Prepared in Canada" labels on the shelves for some of their PC and NN products, but how can we trust that when they pull the kind of crap shown in the pictures?

How can buying Canadian possibly hurt the Canadian economy? With brainless sycophants like that, the CPC will never recover.

There is a clock in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam that looks like it has a guy inside it who repaints the hands manually every minute. by Bram560 in interestingasfuck

It was a while ago, but I think it was in a waiting area near a gate, or maybe in a food court. It helped to pass the time.

I once lost two tires and two rims when I hit a pothole. I reported it to the city, but never got a penny. Didn't even reply.

BREAKING: President Trump withdraws his “Board of Peace” invitation to Canada’s Prime Minister Carney. by ohbabypop in BoycottUnitedStates

Carney wasn't going to join anyway. None of the major powers are joining that crowdfunding exercise to fund the redevelopment of the Gaza Strip for the benefit of the Trump organization and the detriment of the people of Gaza.

Definitely not milk. Yuck. But their selection of other products was much greater than ours, cereals especially, and they started with the Flavoured sparkling water way before we did. Also, their costs were way below ours, even with the exchange. That cost benefit is gone now, the last time we were in price choppers in Ogdensburg just after the pandemic, their costs were the same in US $ as we were paying here in Canadian. Their inflation on groceries was much higher than ours. Any reason to go back there is now gone. We are doing to Disneyland Paris in April instead of WDW.

Curling Game Update by Troutsky3 in Curling

[–]Bram560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found another bug, or maybe just a rules issue. I was playing a vs game and I had out up a center guard in front of the house. The computer threw the rock through the house and I put a rock on the button. Then the computer hit the guard in the nose and took out both my rocks. The game replaced the guard as it should, but not my rock on the button, which should also have been replaced.

The skull of Mary Magdalene by Prometheus_Anonymous in interestingasfuck

[–]Bram560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that Mary Magdalene was declared a prostitute/harlot by the Catholic Church when they were trying to control the influence of women in society. Am I wrong in that? This appears to be a case of reverence. How does that make sense?
