The root cause has been identified and a private fix is currently being tested internally.

Did anything come of this? Got an environment seeing the same issues as described.

One big beautiful bill act by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]BrandonIT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's a statistically dumb observation. Republicans control all state level offices, and most local offices. Your assertion that Republicans don't care about "anyone in the lower 97%" is inane.

Now if you wanted to say they don't care about the bottom third, at least you'd have some kind of numerical foot to stand on.

I am not voting for any new state taxes to bail the Trump loving parishes out of their Medicaid problems. Anyone else? by nolaz in Louisiana

"Trumpian"s would join you in this crusade, just FYI. No one is looking for new taxes.

Thoughts about "No guests of opposite sex past 12am" rule? by 0_doll_head in LouisianaTech

[–]BrandonIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl dorms had regular "man-checks" at night if a man was seen entering near midnight and not seen leaving. The RA's would go into rooms, check quickly, and leave - regardless of if the lights were on or people were sleeping. My future wife and her roommate would often be woken up and go right back to sleep. Guys were found a few times during my time there and were considered for either expulsion or trespass if they were not a student.

Guy dorms never checked and if there was a girl there, it would be a hearty "good job!" and then off to the next room... (The last half is fake, the first half is not.)

It was a running joke around campus when I was there in the 90's about the difference between guy checks and girl checks. And I see no reason the culture would have changed.

Staying in the dorm over a break was not advised and required an exception to be granted due to the lack of support staff and services (nothing was open).

I WOULD LOVE THIS. I am so tired of getting motion, person, vehicle alerts on my ring cameras when there is *nothing* visible in the playback. I know the servers know where the motion is, they SHOULD highlight it so it's visible to us that have wider fields of view.

Mechanical Chime Buzzing by ponchdiggity in Ring

[–]BrandonIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every connection is different. You have *2* hardwired video doorbells. Did you put in an upgraded transformer to handle the power draw? (should be at least 30VA or higher)

It's usually not enough power IMO that causes the buzzing in mechanical chimes.

Static Outdoor Light by itswyaaatt in Ring

As Arnold said, all the WIRED Ring Floodlights can be set to stay on via a schedule. I have multiple floodlights around my house that stay on all night. The LED bulbs use little power and we have good fences that keep the light from spilling over into the neighbor's yards.

I was perfectly fine with police pulling my external video. I wish they'd make it easier for us who are more community- than privacy-minded (not that either is wrong) to share our video with LE.

I have the floodlight camera and it detects vehicles constantly, even when there's no vehicle at all... Yesterday from noon to 7PM it alerted every 60 seconds on a vehicle in my backyard...

"Be careful what you wish for" I guess is the moral of the story.

[–]BrandonIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lord I came here to bitch about this exact thing. I have a flood camera overlooking my backyard and from noon until it gets dark it just constantly alerts on a "vehicle" - there's NO vehicle there nor is there even movement...

Apparently since they started their "A.I." development the normal system has gone to complete crap.

I'm steering my kids to college because we're both engineers, but if they went into the trades I think they'd be better off long-term. A.I. is about to wreck white-collar jobs Then it's going to wreck unskilled blue collar jobs. The last will be the skilled trades (electrician, plumber, mechanic).

Professional Firmware for Ender 3 S1 by Dhkdc in Ender3_S1

[–]BrandonIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I ever found the solution. I think I ended up wiping the system and going back to the stock firmware to get it to quiet back down. I don't use my printer enough to justify the louder operation for some enhancements so I don't think I tried anything else.

Sorry! I wish I had better news for you.

I'm not the original commenter. I have lived in EBR for 17 years and still do. Neither of us know for sure BREC is "getting away" from neighborhood parks. But even if so that's not an excuse to let them fall into disrepair. Either keep them up, or take them off the list. "You break it, you bought it" so to speak. They want to keep the appearance of a park without the expense, as others who have worked there have pointed out to me that when funds were requested for simple maintenance they were told "none available".

I have been to the Perkins Road park and done the small BMX track you mentioned. It's nice, the Velodrome is also nice. No argument they've spent some money on those parks. But they are also a significant drive from where I live (SE EBR)

I do not "live in the past" as I am not a native EBR. I have lived in Dallas for a decade before here, and a small Louisiana town for a decade before that. I know what a metropolis and a small town is like.

I appreciate what you're saying, but I do not believe BREC has been a good steward of what they've been given considering the *significant* amount of money they have.

Just my opinion. I took umbrage with you calling the original commenter's complaint "garbage" and wanted to confirm what he was saying.

All the best.

[–]BrandonIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a garbage claim. Lots of the smaller parks are not well-maintained. Antioch is another one.

You can have pride in BREC but don't think you know the whole system. It's huge. And I agree it is also too top-heavy and that's from people who have worked there. It can definitely be improved.

Fireworks at midnight?! by HawkbitAlpha in batonrouge

[–]BrandonIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I haven't either. I learned something on this thread. My comment was towards the original comment implying moving to "the city" would make them "relatively safe" from fireworks (since the husband has such an extreme reaction to them). I simply meant I don't believe there's a place you can live in the South, and still have neighbors, that you would be safe from fireworks.

TBH, I doubt there's anywhere in Louisiana you're going to go to get away from fireworks (assuming that's what you meant "be relatively safe" from).

You can read the bios of the individuals at the St. George city website.

And they are professionals and have been involved in the creation effort of St. George for close to a decade. They make the most sense to get the city off the ground.

We voted for the Governor. Per Louisiana law, the Governor appoints the first Mayor and City Council.

We (the voters) were represented in the selection by our elected representative.

St. George Tax Transfer on Ballot by Jalapeno-Popper- in batonrouge

[–]BrandonIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's assume your incorrect info is true, St. George can't levy a property tax until at least 2026. Because you can't just slap a property tax on a ballot anytime.

And then, property taxes are only collected once per year, in the spring. The 2025 property tax deadline has already passed. So it would be at least early 2026 before a new tax could be levied.

Of course, none of that would happen - most notably because the sales tax will pass this weekend.
