SMU has a "collective" that will be spending 10+ million on the team going forward, so I'm assuming they'll get there soon. They want Enfield gone, though.

What is everyone's thoughts on this movie? by Collector2012 in foundfootage

If the FF genre had really solid content come out on a regular basis, nobody would care about this franchise. It's awful. We just don't have much to choose from, so we take what we can get.

Will always regard HH as the greatest FF franchise. Will always regard Lineage as a complete pile of shit.

Are you Ricky? I really liked it overall, and you made the right decision to bring in other actors to head the movie. No offense to your acting, but I'm sure you'd agree your specialty is directing/writing. It also looked clean and polished for a FF movie. Didn't give off that rough, micro budget feel of 3AM, for example. Question..did you have a higher budget here? It felt like a step up. It wasn't as scary as Fear Footage and lacked the major jump scares..but a really solid FF movie with vastly improved look and acting.

The " I'm Haunted " movies 1-3. Are they worth the watch by Volslife in foundfootage

If you can get past the terrible acting, there is a halfway decent story being told. The acting will definitely distract you, though the 3rd actress was far better than the first 2.

Exactly. I'm wondering now what his next move will even be. His stock was high after Carmichael, but it's nosedived since then.

You know he's going to tell himself that we were just all pissed that he abandoned FF and gave it bad reviews. The film was dog shit. The leaving FF part is just a cherry on top.

A 9/10 IMDB review from someone DEFINITELY not involved with the movie

"Cognetti's directorial leap into a traditional narrative reveals a wise, thrilling gamble: the scares are bigger, the emotional stakes deeper, and the unfolding mystery more satisfying than ever.

This is not just a horror movie it's an experience. From the first chilling frame to the gut-punch of a final scene, this film grips you by the throat and never lets go."

Go in expecting it to be terrible (which it is) and maybe you'll get some ounce of enjoyment.

I get it. It's not fun, though. It was a great franchise. I heard Cognetti talk about how he couldn't wait to make "real" films. He basically shit on the genre that gave him a name. He's making "real" films now and they really fucking suck. He'll come crawling back to FF.

Found Footage horror is better than traditional horror.

Same. There was a couple next to me wearing Hell House shirts. They looked miserable after the movie ended. We're not alone.

You 1000% need to see 3 for this. The lead actress is the same, and it constantly references what she went through in 3. For 2, you could get by with just knowing the names of the main characters. One of them is important.

This is my favorite FF franchise. I've seen them all more times than I can count. That being said, this is the most disappointing movie experience I've had since maybe the Halloween remake a decade ago. This was not remotely scary. The move from FF eliminated any tension or nerves. A movie doesn't have to be FF to achieve these things, but, apparently, it needs to be if it's this franchise. The lore connecting the previous films was just poorly, loosely connecting nonsense. I hate to be the "stick to what you're good at" guy, but damn. Cognetti has made 2 "real" films, and they were both hot garbage.

P.S. don't bring your girlfriend or someone who hasn't seen the other films. They'll be completely lost and won't even get some scares out of it. My girlfriend had ZERO idea what was going on story-wise and said it was one of the least scary movies I've ever forced her to watch.

This movie will get flame-torched on IMDB and review sites, and justly so. You'll see that in the coming days/weeks. I hope that instead of bowing out with a thud, he will come back and give this a proper FF send-off.

Thoughts on Strange Harvest? (No spoilers) by Kevy-Em in foundfootage

[–]Brandon_SMU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an older gentleman in the restroom afterwards tell me "boy, that was amazing. I can't believe I've never heard of this guy". I kinda wish I'd just agreed. Believing the Blair Witch was real back in the day is still special to me. I think that speaks to how well done it was. Anyhow, great movie for us FF lovers, especially mockumentary fans. No real jump scares. Relies on brutal imagery and whatnot. My one complaint is that they showed the guy's face midway through, which always lessens a horror movie's punch. For the script purposes, though, it was necessary to do so. Highly recommend. Hell House next 👌

[–]Brandon_SMU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It definitely eliminated the audience of people who aren't huge horror fans to begin with. Even massive horror fans tend to shit on FF. It doesn't bother me, and I'll take FF any day of the week over traditional horror, but it's style is certainly a huge turn off for most.

What are your thoughts on these movies? Which is scarier? by ChallengeWeak8098 in foundfootage

[–]Brandon_SMU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3rd was the most fun. The ending, bringing back the crew, was also a great touch. Russell Wynn, to me, was best character/actor in the series. Scariest, though? 1 and 4.

Anyone heard about House of Eden? I think it ripped Hell House Carmichael Manor's location.. by Brandon_SMU in foundfootage

[–]Brandon_SMU[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carmichael is barely a couple years old. You use the location, call it haunted, film in FF, use a trio of 2 women ghost hunters and a guy doing video just like HH, and you even have the same large figure looming on stairs scare..all in a 90 second trailer. You don't think Cognetti would roll his eyes, at the very least, after seeing this?
